Day 1: The Glory of God in Christ as Our Deepest Joy
The gospel of Jesus Christ is not merely about removing obstacles to our joy but is fundamentally about revealing the glory of God in Christ, which is the source of our deepest and most satisfying joy. This revelation is the ultimate goal of the gospel, leading us to savor and treasure Jesus above all else. The removal of obstacles such as God's wrath, alienation, and guilt is not the end but a means to the greater end of enjoying God. Our joy in Jesus is made possible by His work on the cross, which obliterates these barriers. [03:21]
"For God, who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." (2 Corinthians 4:6, ESV)
Reflection: What is one way you can intentionally seek to see and savor the glory of Christ in your daily life today?
Day 2: The Cross as the Means to Eternal Joy
The gospel removes every barrier to our eternal joy in God, such as the wrath of God, alienation, guilt, lack of righteousness, death, spiritual deadness, and the accusations of Satan. Each of these obstacles has been obliterated by the blood of Jesus, allowing us to experience the fullness of joy in Him. However, the removal of these obstacles is not the ultimate goal; rather, it is the means to the end of enjoying and savoring the glory of God in Christ. [07:17]
"And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross." (Colossians 2:13-14, ESV)
Reflection: Consider a specific obstacle in your life that hinders your joy in God. How can you bring this to the cross today and trust in Jesus' work to remove it?
Day 3: Embracing Jesus as Our Soul's Satisfaction
True faith is an embrace of Jesus as the bread that satisfies our soul, and conversion is finding Jesus so valuable that we would have Him at the cost of anything. This pursuit of joy in Jesus is the essence of the Christian life. Our journey as believers is to see and savor the glory of Christ, to show His worth by how much we treasure Him, and to display His beauty by how much we delight in Him. [35:14]
"Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." (Psalm 73:25-26, ESV)
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you find yourself seeking satisfaction outside of Jesus? How can you turn to Him today as your ultimate source of joy?
Day 4: Overflowing Love from Joy in Jesus
Our love for others, including our family and enemies, flows from our joy in Jesus. This joy, even in affliction and poverty, overflows into a wealth of liberality and love for others. The Christian life is a lifelong quest to make Jesus the lifeblood of all our pleasures, ensuring that every joy we experience is rooted in Him. [38:31]
"We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part." (2 Corinthians 8:1-2, ESV)
Reflection: Think of someone in your life who needs to experience the love of Christ through you. How can you show them this love today, even if it requires sacrifice?
Day 5: Glorifying God Through Our Satisfaction in Him
Pursuing our joy in Jesus glorifies Him like nothing else. When we are satisfied in Him, He is glorified, just as a spouse is honored when their partner finds joy in them. This pursuit is the ultimate reason for our existence. Our satisfaction in Him magnifies His worth, and it is through this pursuit that we glorify God most fully. [42:33]
"Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act." (Psalm 37:4-5, ESV)
Reflection: Reflect on a recent moment of joy in your life. How can you trace this joy back to Jesus and glorify Him through it today?

Sermon Clips
The gospel of Jesus is the great work of God through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, in which he removes every obstacle to your full and everlasting and all-satisfying enjoyment of his glory, and in which he displays the most beautiful portrait of that glory. [00:02:16]
The reason the gospel is good news is that its design, its goal, is your happiness, your eternal, fullest possible happiness. That's why we call it good news. That's the design of the gospel, and the way that design is achieved is that in the gospel, God destroys what makes your happiness fail. [00:03:24]
The life that drinks most deeply at the well of the gospel, the life that displays most clearly the worth of Christ in the gospel, the life that glorifies God's work most fully in the gospel is a life of unremitting pursuit of Jesus as your all-satisfying treasure. [00:05:01]
The gospel is the work of God by which, through Jesus Christ, he removes every single obstacle to your everlasting all-satisfying pleasure. And I've written down seven of those obstacles so that you get a feel for how magnificent this removal is. [00:07:46]
The wrath of God is the greatest obstacle to our joy in the universe, and it has been removed in the blood of Jesus. Romans 5:9, since we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. [00:08:35]
The absence of righteousness in my life, not only do I have real guilt apart from Jesus and real sin, I don't have any righteousness to commend me to a holy God. None is righteous, no not one. Romans 3:10. And so what did God do? [00:12:34]
The kingdom of heaven is like a man who found a treasure hidden in a field and in his joy he covered over and went and sold everything he had and bought that field. In parable, one of the shortest parables in Jesus' teaching, what's the point? [00:36:42]
Conversion is finding Jesus so valuable you would have him at the cost of anything. You can't love each other and your husbands and your children and your friends and your enemies unless you are finding your joy in Jesus. [00:37:59]
The pathway of Christ is not an easy path, it's just a happy one. Finally, I'll close with my favorite rose story. Matt Chandler has his rose story, I got my rose story. And that Chandler's rose story is a beautiful insight into the nature of the gospel. [00:39:28]
The ultimate reason for why you pursue your everlasting all-satisfying joy in Jesus is because it makes much of him like nothing else. So I close with my definition again, the gospel is the great work of God through the death and resurrection of Jesus. [00:42:33]
He removes every obstacle to your everlasting all-satisfying joy in his glory and in which he displays most beautifully that glory for your enjoyment. He removes and destroys everything that makes your happiness fail, and he displays everything that makes your happiness full. [00:43:49]
Make this your lifelong quest, cut off your hands if you have to, do not rest until you find yourself sweetly, deeply resting in the all-satisfying grace and glory of our Lord Jesus. Do that, Father, for these women I pray, in the name of our great Savior, Jesus Christ. [00:44:09]
