"Anxiety, fear, uncertainty, and doubt are creeping into the hearts of men and women, and I've heard from so many within our own church this week that we're not alone. Through endless telephone conversations and text messages and Facebook messages, the double standards on full display between men and women, racist texts targeted to our young black college students at HBCUs, worry of hate crimes, the embodiment of oppressive mindsets that are as old as America, are once again on the rise, and this reality, is causing many of us to experience disappointment, grief, pain, anger, and any, even many in despair."

"Job consistently cried out to God throughout the entire ordeal but God was silent while the pundit spoke God was silent while Job's friends kept talking round after round after round, and I want to give you a word of caution here because just like Job, many of us are and should be crying out to God about whatever has placed you in despair, crying out to God about what we're going through individually and collectively, crying out to God about our troubles, our worries, and our pains."

"God's going to speak through the very environment that created your grief, Joe. God's going to speak. Speak through the very circumstance of your pain. God's going to speak through the wind, through the storm, through the trouble, through the pain. God is speaking. We just want God to always have a comforting tone. This means that we must be willing to listen to the wind."

"God is not just the God of holiness. God is also gracious, full of mercy and compassion. God is not just seeing the world through members of 3MBC and North Charleston. God is also seeing the world through Palestinians in Gaza and Jews in Israel and Ukrainians who are fighting for freedom. God is everywhere fighting for his will to be done in the lives of every."

"And what makes this tough, Joe, is that God is not just seeing it in our real time, but God is seeing what needs to happen for our children and our children's children. God is not just focused on what's happening outside your window. God is focused on how your problems are connected to other problems, their historical context, how decisions now impact future generations."

"And I want to hear what God has to say through the wind. I know there's a cross for everyone and I know that there's a cross for me and I know that grief is a part of the process. But I also know that weeping may endure for a night. This pain and suffering I'm enduring may endure for a night. This heartache may endure for a night. This whirlwind may endure for a night. But there is joy that's going to show up for me. When the morning comes, I know who holds the future."
