The psalm is a meditation on the comprehensive care of God. It speaks of how God leads us into rest and righteousness, restores us when we falter, and guards us through life's darkest valleys. Even when surrounded by enemies, God provides for us, strengthening our faith. [00:03:48]

When the Lord is your shepherd, his love surrounds you now, and it will surround you always, and the love of the good shepherd is a love that pursues us and it will be a love that welcomes us. [00:05:52]

God has two wonderful sheepdogs, the name of one is goodness, and the name of the other is mercy. I love that picture, the good shepherd in front of me and his goodness and his mercy chasing behind me. [00:08:03]

Goodness is God giving us what we don't deserve, and if you belong to the good shepherd, his goodness will always be chasing after you. And then mercy, surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. [00:10:36]

When you are in Christ, when the Lord is your shepherd, you are encircled in his love. There's an ancient Celtic hymn that goes all the way back to the fifth century and is attributed to St. Patrick, and it begins with these words: I bind unto myself today the strong name of the Trinity. [00:15:12]

On your worst days, you are never so bad that you are beyond the reach of God's grace, and on your best days, you are never so good that you are beyond the need of God's grace. It is what is true of you in Christ all the days of your life. [00:17:12]

The joy of eternity in the immediate presence of God and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. What will that be like? Well, the first thing to say is that it will be very different from your life in this world. [00:20:07]

When you dwell in the house of the Lord, faith will be turned to sight, old battles will be over, old wounds will be healed, and God himself will wipe away all tears from your eyes. You'll see Christ in all his glory, the king in his beauty. [00:20:35]

The relationship that you have with the Lord Jesus Christ now will be the relationship that you have with him forever. If he is your shepherd now, he will be your shepherd always, to all eternity. [00:22:43]

The good shepherd will always be leading you into something new. Heaven will be a world of fresh discoveries and of new delights, the lamb himself leading you into springs of living water that's communicating something that is always fresh, always new. [00:25:19]

The more you know of God, the more you will see of his beauty, and the more you see of his beauty, the more you will love him, and the more you love him, the more happiness you will have in him, and so it will be to all eternity. [00:30:34]

The greatest blessing you could know in this world is for the Lord to be your shepherd, to be wholly owned by the Son of God, because then you would be able to say, surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life. [00:36:19]
