#ChristOverReligion
“Too often, I settle for the shadow when he's saying I'm the substance. Don't settle for religion when I'm offering you relationship. Don't settle for the gift when you know the giver. Don't settle for just knowing bible facts when I'm giving you the chance to know me. Don't settle for just looking righteous when I'm I'm offering transformation. Don't settle for a calendar full of Christian things or or whatever and miss Christ.”

#FreedomInChrist
“God did not rescue the Israelites so that they could keep living like Egyptians though they tried. Jesus does not save us from sin so that we can just keep on living the old people that we are not anymore. Salvation is not merely getting us out of judgment. It is being brought into a new life. And so if you're in Jesus, you are not only forgiven. You are free. You are free to leave behind the leaven. You are free to leave behind the sin. The things that used to own you don't own you anymore.”

#KnowJesus
“Maybe you've spent your entire life around Christian shadows. You know the songs, you know the language, you know when to stand up during the service and when to sit down. You know when the kids get dismissed. You know the bible stories. You know church culture. But do you know the substance? Because friends, we are here not for shadows. We're here not for the periphery and the outlook. We're here for the substance. I don't know about you. But I have found that when you grab hold of the real substance that is Jesus, there is a satisfaction and a fulfillment and a life that is there that no shadow could ever give you.”

#ChristIsEnough
“You know, money is a good thing, but it cannot be your substance. Success and the drive for excellence, I think, can be a good thing, but it can't tell you who you are. Marriage is a good gift, but your spouse cannot be Jesus for you. They will not save you. They will not complete you no matter what the romance novels and books and movies show you. Family is a gift, but it cannot be your identity. Career is a gift. Achievement is a gift. Pleasure is... Even church can become a shadow if we settle for just religious activity. Now I do the thing, and we miss the substance. Christ.”

#WorshipTheGiver
“I think many of us settle for shadows in other ways. You see, god gave them these things to show himself to them, to point out the substance, to kind of foreshadow Jesus' coming. He... That's why he gave them these things. But there's a lot of good things god gives us that we try to turn into our substance. There's a lot of good things that God has given us in our lives that we try to make ultimate things. There's an analogous kind of temptation in every generation and in every heart where we will take the gifts that God has given us, and we will worship the gift, the good thing. We will turn it into a religion, and we won't look to the giver, the substance of it all.”

#HarvestOfSouls
“Do you see this? So the the original feast of weeks in in Pentecost was the grain harvest and a celebration of that. And now we fast forward to Acts chapter two, and there's another harvest. It's a harvest of souls. It's a harvest of people, and it's... We're still getting to experience it today. Every person who confesses Christ as lord, every person who surrenders to his lordship and repents and turns to him. Every baptism, every changed life is a part of the harvest still coming in. So the shadow was the weeks, the Pentecost, the substance was the spirit who who comes, and a gospel harvest begins.”

#JesusTheLamb
“You know, we are not slaves to Egypt, but scripture says we are slaves to sin. We are not waiting for judgment on Pharaoh, but every one of us stands guilty before a holy god. We don't need the blood of another animal. We don't need the blood of another lamb. We need a better lamb.”

#Communion
“As we take communion, it is to remember the substance that is Jesus. Another thing he told us to do, he told us when we eat the bread and drink the juice to remember him in his body that was broken, his blood that was spilled, and we eat it to do it in remembrance of him. it is so that we might know him personally better. So if you're a follower of Jesus, we do this not as an act of religion, but as an act of worship to draw us to him personally.”
