#NarrowRoadFaith
“``Why would they turn away from this free gift of God in Christ Jesus to something else? Why would they do that? And what's going on here? Well, some of it is, Judaizers, who are there, who say, yeah, Jesus is good, but you really should be circumcised. Jesus is good, but, yeah, you really need to observe all of the Torah laws. Jesus is good, but you need to do all of this other stuff. See, Paul is contending for the gospel because to walk in the good news and the freedom of the good news is hard. It's a narrow road, and there are ditches on both sides of that road. On the one side is the ditch of legalism, and on the other side is the ditch of licensing. I can do whatever I want because I'm forgiven. I don't need to. I can do whatever I want. And to stay in the middle as one who says, I am a sinner. Jesus loves me. I wanna walk that narrow road. It's hard.”

#ContendForTheGospel
“To contend for the gospel. And why do we need to contend for the gospel? Pastor, this gift is free. It is free. But it's a gift that is easily lost, easily misplaced, easily set aside for other things that come sometimes more naturally than the gospel of Jesus Christ. I've heard people say that the gospel is lost and found in every generation. And I think if you look back at church history, think that's probably true. That the gospel gets lost or misplaced and then found. By the people of god, by the power of the Holy Spirit through his word, that he brings us to faith and to hold and to contend with that gospel and hold on to it with everything we have, not just for ourselves but for our family, our friends, for the world to know and to treasure the gift of Jesus.”

#GraceIsUncomfortable
“You get that free gift from somebody else, and it's uncomfortable. Is it not? When somebody gives you something and just free of charge, they give it to you and you go, oh, that's nice. Thank you so much for that. And in the back of your mind, you're thinking, what can I give them? What can I do to repay this favor to even out the balances? Because if they're just giving to me, I mean, then I'm gonna feel really weird. This is gonna be a really awkward relationship. Let's figure this out. It's much more comfortable. You scratch my back. I scratch yours. We're more comfortable in that world to the gospel of Jesus Christ which is the free gift of god in Christ Jesus. That's why the church in Galatia, the church throughout centuries has had a hard time maintaining the gospel without contending for it. It gets forgotten.”

#FreedomCostlyGrace
“I'm talking in this message about walking in the freedom of the gospel. And each week, there's gonna have a little bit of a different theme to that. Walking in the gospel but contending for freedom because freedom doesn't just happen. I know we just celebrated Independence Day. Two hundred and fifty years as a country which is awesome. The only way to do that is to blow stuff up. Right? That's the only way to do it. Yeah. Two hundred and fifty years of blowing stuff up. But freedom isn't free. Is it? No. Freedom is something that comes at great cost. And the freedom that we have in the gospel came at great cost to Jesus with his life and his sacrifice on the cross. The freedom of the gospel also comes at great cost to many of his dear saints throughout the centuries. To contend for the gospel and to hold it up.”

#DeliveredFromThisAge
“starts off explaining the gospel about Jesus who gave himself up for our sins and to deliver us from this wonderful world that we live in. Right? No. He doesn't pull any punches. He's to to deliver us from this present evil age because he can feel the evil around him and because he knows that this world is perishing. In this world, we brought evil into it. To the sand of Adam and Eve, we help bring evil into this world, and it's been a part of our world. It doesn't take a lot of convincing to tell people, hey. Is this world evil? You go, yeah. And it doesn't take long to see that, But Jesus has come to deliver us from this.”

#ApostolicAuthority
“He's a sent one, but he sent with the authority of the person who sent it. That's what an apostle is. They don't they don't work on their own. They don't work on their own authority. They work on the authority of those we're given. And Paul says his authority is from where? Not from man. Nor through man. But through Jesus Christ and god the father who raised him from the dead and all the brothers with me. He gets to it right away. My authority is not from myself. It's not even from the other apostles. My authority is from from Jesus, and God the father who raised him from the dead. And then he begins his pastoral letter. Grace to you and peace from God our father and the Lord Jesus Christ. That sound familiar?”

#GraceAndPeaceFromChrist
“My authority is not from myself. It's not even from the other apostles. My authority is from from Jesus, and God the father who raised him from the dead. And then he begins his pastoral letter. Grace to you and peace from God our father and the Lord Jesus Christ. That sound familiar? It should. That's pretty much how I begin every message. And I do that because, well, because the apostle Paul begins all these letters this way and it just feels appropriate to do so. And then he says, who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from this present evil age according to the will of god and the father whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.”

#NoOtherGospel
“That's why the church in Galatia, the church throughout centuries has had a hard time maintaining the gospel without contending for it. It gets forgotten. We slip back into our old habits nature, of wanting to earn things because that's the way things are. And Paul says, I or an angel from heaven preaches to you a gospel other than the one that you receive from me, let him be eternally condemned. He's even put himself in this category. If if any man or even an angel comes out of heaven and proclaims this kind of message to you, let him be eternally condemned. He is that serious.”
