so father i pray that as we wrap this unit up in this lab you would grant us to be free from fear the fear of giving the fear of selling what we have in order to be more generous oh that we might prove ourselves to be the chief of such a shepherd and the children of such a father and the subjects of such a king by being the most generous people lord make your people generous i pray in jesus name amen [00:32:04]

so what we saw was that the encouragement here is fear not little flock meaning he's a great shepherd over us it is your father's so he's a great father over us good pleasure to give you the kingdom so he's a king over us and so we are sheep of a great shepherd we're the children of a great father and we are the subject of a great king and what marks this shepherd this father and this king is that it is their good pleasure to give [00:68:43]

sell your possessions and give to the needy provide yourselves with purses or moneybags that do not grow old with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail where no thief approaches no moth destroys for where your treasure is there will your heart be also so last time we looked at the connection between selling and giving to the needy and now we want to ask the question what about the connection right here [01:02:28]

provide yourselves with money bags so that's the container of your treasure and if the container grows old and gets rotten you might be walking along some path and everything falls out and people steal it or who knows so this is clearly intended to enhance the protection of the treasure because your money bag is not going to grow old so we could say this is a treasure that will not be lost [02:18:16]

and then a treasure in the heavens that does not fail meaning no matter how long it lasts inflation won't make it worthless or something like that in other words time won't let it become worthless so not um fail so let's use that word and then where no thief approaches so not stolen and no moth destroys so not ruined by natural disaster or any kind of physical destruction [03:01:92]

because where your treasure is is where your heart is going to be also now what what what kind of argument is that if your treasure is in these possessions here on earth your heart's going to be there and if your treasure is in these kind of treasures on in heaven that can never fail then your heart's going to be there what's what's the point the point is that the heart is the emotional barometer of the value of the and security of the of the treasure [04:23:84]

i'm gonna put joy here heart experiences joy in the treasure if your treasure is vulnerable your joy is vulnerable if your treasure is secure your joy is secure if your treasure is great your joy is great so the point of arguing here is that who cares if you have a treasure if it doesn't make you happy right having a treasure is only precious if it produces happiness and joy in the heart [04:56:08]

he's already said don't be afraid you've got the kingdom he loves to give it to you so it's not as though you earn the kingdom the treasure by being a generous person what what do you do you confirm by giving that you are a sheep of such a shepherd you are a child of such a father you are a subject of such a king because they he loves it's his good pleasure to give [07:03:36]

and now you with the dna of your father proving that you are his child and you are in his kingdom and you are in his flock you give like that and thus you provide you have money bag and treasure that is in the kingdom that he gives you you confirm that you are his and i would add that you not only you not only confirm that you are the sheep of that flock and the child in that family and the subject in that kingdom but you increase your treasure and thus your joy [07:57:68]

i say it because luke 6 38 says this jesus talking give and it will be given to you good measure press down shaken together running over will be put into your lap for with the measure you use it will be measured back to you in other words there's a correlation here between the scoop scoop that you stick into the bag of your resources to give and the scoop that god scoops out your joy in the age to come [08:23:99]

you don't earn your presence in the age to come but there's a correlation between the way you give give and it will be given to you and the correlation the measure you use will be the measure used in giving back to you which means that there is a correlation between selling your possessions giving to the needy and the moneybag and the treasure in heaven it will confirm that you are in the family and it will increase the joy of the family [09:17:36]

how can we not do away with fear be the kind of people who sell what we need to in order to give all we can [10:03:28]
