The book of Daniel is not a decoder ring. Kids, back in the day, long before even my time, there were these things called decoder rings. And you would get these decoder rings. I honestly don't know how you got them. Maybe in cereal, maybe in Cracker Jack boxes. I don't know how you came about this. But what would happen is they would air these radio broadcasts. And on these radio broadcasts, they would send this sort of secret coded message, top secret message. And as long as you had that decoder ring, you could decipher the message and that made you feel like you were a top secret spy or whatever it was, okay? This really happened, okay? But the book of Daniel is not this decoder ring. The problem is people really, really, really want to do this with their Bible. [00:04:54] (47 seconds)

There is only one mystery in the Bible that you need to worry about, that you need to try to solve. And that is the mystery of Christ in us. That God is no longer only with us, he is now God in us through Christ. That is the mystery the Bible talks about. That is the mystery you need to try to solve for your own life. But don't go to the Bible like it's some kind of decoder ring. Leave that to the History Channel, okay? [00:07:10] (31 seconds)

Jesus Christ is coming back. Amen you can say amen to that and when he comes back there will be very real people who go to a very real place called hell because they do not have a relationship with him and we need to be less concerned about breaking the secret code of how Jesus is coming back and when Jesus is coming back as we are knowing that he is in fact coming back and we need to spend time telling people how to have a relationship with him so they don't go to hell that's ought to why you be that should be why you're excited to read your Bible not trying to figure out some secret hidden code. And because he did that, King Nebuchadnezzar rolls in. This is not his first time to roll in, but he rolls in during this particular time, and he defeats Jerusalem. He takes over Jerusalem. Because of the nation's continued disobedience, like I said, God, it's not like Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar wore God down and defeated God. God backed up. God took his hand of protection off of the city, and King Nebuchadnezzar came in, and well, you'll see what he did to the city. [00:11:15] (34 seconds)

This is very important to realize that, like I said, he didn't wear God down. This was what God was allowing to happen for the sake of Israel. Do you see that? He didn't defeat God. God allowed it to happen. And oftentimes, the truth is God allows things to happen to us in order to change. God is the truth. Something in us. Let me say that again. God will allow things to happen to us in order to change something in us. [00:11:49] (30 seconds)

The truth is oftentimes our enemy will come after us and try to convince us of a new identity, one that actually speaks against who we truly are, a new identity that if and when we believe it is the exact opposite of what God has already declared about us as true. So the enemy will come into our lives and he will try to convince us, oh, your identity is you are ugly. You are unloved. [00:19:07] (32 seconds)

These aren't just put-downs. These are things that speak straight against truths that God has already declared. God has said you are beautiful, adored, desired, righteous, and clean, wise, comforted, and that with Jesus anything is possible. And in the area, this is my guess, in the area that you feel most attacked by the enemy to coming after your identity, my guess is that that is the area that God sees is your greatest giftedness. We see this all throughout Scripture, in fact, but we see it a lot in the book of Daniel. And here's what I mean by that. Now, there is a big picture story that God is doing. I think most people understand God is sort of, he knows what he's doing. He's writing a grand story. And oftentimes we read Scripture, we don't see the big picture of what God is doing because there's something there that makes it really easy to focus on that's actually a little picture view. [00:23:19] (33 seconds)

When we miss this, following God simply becomes formulaic. We just say, you know what? All I need to do is I'm going to eat vegetables. I'm going to drink water. And then after that time, I'm going to be close to God. I'm going to do A and B, and it's going to equal C. It just becomes formulaic. When the truth is, you can do all that. You can eat only vegetables and drink only water and improve your gut health and still be far from God. That's the truth. [00:27:01] (34 seconds)

And each and every one of those times, no matter what it cost me, because some of those cost me dearly, it was worth it, and I'm glad I did it. So how often have I allowed my desire for position, power, or popularity affect my actions? Look, I don't want you to ask these questions with the attitude of, oh my goodness, I have done that. No, I know you've done it. [00:34:39] (31 seconds)
