#LifeOnTheStruggleBus
“My argument is that very often life is like that. Especially life on the struggle bus. Life can be, life is so intense. There's so much going on. We can't hear what God's trying to tell us.”

#FearVsFaith
“What happens when fear feels bigger than faith? It says in verse 3, Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. And the story tells us he takes his assistant and they run and they run way into the desert and they go way into the desert. And then it's kind of interesting. He tells, they get to the place where they're in and they're going to stay. And then Elijah tells his assistant, you stay here and I'm going to go on a little farther. And he does that, I think he wants to get along with God. But also, if they're going to chase somebody, they're going to find his assistant and they're not going to find him. He is way out where nobody is. Completely disconnected. Completely unplugged. No cell service. You get me? He's out there. Elijah, he's running.”

#OvercomingDepression
“He just pitched the equivalent of a perfect game in his hometown. Now, he'd just done, he'd just nailed it in front of everybody. You would think he would be on a high and say, man, God, you took care of 500 prophets. Can you take care of this king's wife? But he didn't. He didn't. What's going on there? Elijah is exhausted and depressed. And he gets to his hiding place. And here's what the scripture says. In modern English, he basically says, that's it. I'm done. Let me die. That's it. I'm done. Let me die. Now, I don't want you to show your hands, but I know that many of us have been right there at one time or another.”

#HonestPrayer
“God can do great things in spite of your depression. Or your infirmity. Or your addiction. God can do great things. But you know what else he can do? He can heal you of that. He can absolutely heal you of that.”

#SpiritualAttackAlert
“God can handle your honesty. It's okay to pray with an honest heart. What I mean by that is, tell him exactly how you feel. You don't have to hold back. You don't have to parse your words. You don't even have to worry about offending him. Tell him exactly what's going on and how you feel. You don't have to pretend everything is okay when it's not.”

#GodHealsSimply
“God cares before he corrects. God cares about you and your struggle. Does he want to use you to change the world? Absolutely. But that doesn't mean he doesn't care about your struggle. That doesn't mean he doesn't care about your infirmity. It doesn't mean that he's not a God who absolutely is heartbroken over you when you're hurting or down or depressed or struggling.”

#RestIsObedience
“If you're on the struggle bus today, God cares before he corrects. If you've got a sin that you're not able to get over, God cares before he corrects. I'm not saying we shouldn't work on it. I'm not saying we shouldn't get forgiveness. I'm not saying we should have good practices to keep us from doing those kind of things. I'm not saying that. But never think that God cares less than his correction. He doesn't. He loves you passionately. Passionately.”

#NapEatBreathe
“Before giving Elijah a new assignment, God gave him food and sleep. Simple things matter. Water, simple things, bread, water, rest. That's how God started the healing process for Elijah.”

#WaitForGod
“Rest isn't laziness. It's obedience. If you're one of those people like me who loves to work, and trust me, I love to work. I'm 68. I want to keep working as long as my body will let me get up in the morning and go. And not because, you know, I want to keep earning money or anything like that. I just absolutely love what I do. I can't believe that I get to work in a profession that pays me to tell people about Jesus. That's the most awesome thing of ever. I don't want to keep doing it. Even when I get to the point where I'm not going to get paid to do it, I want to keep telling people about Jesus. But I get to do that every single day. But rest isn't laziness. It's obedience.”

#NotAloneInFaith
“Sometimes, not working is the most healthy thing you can do. Stop. Breathe. Rest. And I would add, wait. Wait for God to talk to you.”
