Water obeys iron’s weight until God rewrites physics. Elisha’s lost axe head floated not by chance but by divine intervention, mocking human expectations. Like ravens delivering meals or rocks gushing water, God’s favor operates outside merit-based systems. His choices confound resumes, pedigrees, and bank accounts. When He decides to bless, no law of nature or societal hierarchy can veto His decree. What drowns others becomes your life raft. [03:28]

But as one of the sons of the prophets was cutting down a tree, the iron axe head fell into the water. “Oh no, my lord!” he cried out. “It was borrowed!” The man of God asked, “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float. (2 Kings 6:5-6, NKJV)

Then Joshua spoke to the Lord… “Sun, stand still over Gibeon; and Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.” So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the people had revenge upon their enemies… The sun stayed in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. Flames lick the heels of Shadrach’s obedience, yet favor walks beside him. The fire that should have erased three men instead revealed a fourth—Christ Himself—turning execution chambers into worship spaces. Your most humiliating trials become theaters for God’s presence when favor secures what fairness denies. Scorching seasons don’t negate favor; they spotlight its sustaining power. [20:03]

Sermon Summary

Exodus 33 sets the foundation with God saying, “I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.” Ephesians 2 joins that witness by declaring salvation to be “by grace through faith,” not of works, so nobody gets to boast. God’s favor does not fit inside the box of human logic, because human logic wants order, fairness, input, output, and predictable results. God’s blessing often breaks that box wide open.

Favor ain’t fair because favor is sovereign. God makes iron float, makes the sun stand still, drops walls through praise, splits seas with a rod, brings water from a rock, sends ravens with a meal, keeps fire from burning, and raises dry bones to life. Favor also secures success beyond human effort. Joseph went from the pit to the palace because the Lord was with him. Daniel influenced kings while living in exile. Esther stood hidden in obscurity until God’s favor made her the deliverer of her people. Favor becomes the master key that opens doors no degree, status, or human approval could unlock.

Favor does not mean the absence of trouble. Favor means God is present in the trouble. Noah floated on the same waters that destroyed the earth. Moses stood before Pharaoh when logic said a fugitive shepherd had no authority. David faced a giant when logic said a boy with a slingshot had no chance. The three Hebrew young men walked through fire and came out without the smell of smoke.

God’s favor sustains, prepares, warns, and keeps. Favor may not take a person out of the storm, because sometimes favor gives strength to go through. Favor also keeps the heart from being ruled by feelings, keeps the soul alert when sin crouches at the door, and teaches believers to stop living by man’s approval. Favor ain’t fair, but God’s favor is available through repentance, faith, and walking with Jesus.

David probably just looked like a little ant to him. god's favor guided the stone and guaranteed victory for a shepherd boy.”

Human logic is like a box into which we place our expectations, and we expect that what comes out of that box will measure up to our human standards. Things like age, status, skill, or fairness.”

In fact, the word of god says, woe to him when all men speak favorably of him. If everybody's speaking well of you, you better check yourself and see where you stand with god.”
