Father's Day Sunday Worship 6/21/26

Genesis five opens like a slow walk through a graveyard. The headstones line up and the refrain keeps tolling, then he died. Adam, Seth, Enos, Cainan, Mahalaleel, Jared, one after another, then he died. But when the reading reaches Enoch, the rhythm breaks. The funeral march turns into testimony. Enoch lived, begat Methuselah, walked with God three hundred years, and death could not take him. The text says he did not start that walk until he became a father. Fatherhood awakened legacy in him. Responsibility and dependency woke him up. Someone started calling him daddy, and he decided it was time to walk with God.

Methuselah’s name carried a warning. After he dies, judgment is coming. Enoch felt the clock, heard the warning, and wanted to be on the right side of what God would send. Hebrews eleven calls what Genesis names a walk by another name. Genesis says he walked with God. Hebrews says he pleased God and was translated so he should not see death. The two witnesses agree. God does not walk with a life that does not please him. First John says fellowship with God cannot be lived in darkness. Walk in the light as he is in the light and there is fellowship, and the blood of Jesus cleanses.

Faith is the secret center of that walk. Without faith it is impossible to please God. Attendance, tithing, even service will not please God if they are not rooted in trust. Faith believes that He is and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him. Many hearts are unhappy because they are seeking what cannot satisfy, strengthen, or sustain. Seek the Lord and there is a reward. That is the good news, and it lands best after the bad news and the worst news. All have sinned, and the wages of sin is death. God so loved the world that he gave his Son. Best of all, no matter where the feet have been, if a sinner turns around and seeks him today, God will reward that turn.

God’s heart is to walk with his people through every stage, every age, every problem. Intercession steps into hospital rooms and lays a child named Michael in those hands. God can awaken, heal, and overrule even an insurance roadblock. The call goes out. Anyone walking the wrong way can turn today and walk with God, and the blessing of the Lord will keep them on that road.
