#GodNeverChanges
“God created the sun, the moon, the stars. Unlike heavenly bodies, God never changes. He never dims. He never declines, and he never casts a shadow. James contrasts god with the shifting shadows created by moving of the celestial bodies. The universe changes, but god never changes. God is not the the source of temptation. He is a source of every single blessing. Come on. A lighthouse remains fixed while storms rage around it. Why? Because as long as you can get to that lighthouse, you will get to safety. He is the god of light”

#FaithfulEndurance
“Verse 12 serves as a bridge, uses the word bless, same kind of idea of the Beatitudes. Blessed is the man. Blessed is not the trials itself. Blessing comes from the faithful perseverance. He talks about the crown of life. It refers not merely to a royal crown, but to a victor's wreath. James sees the Christian as a race requiring endurance. Indeed, life is brief. The evidence of genuine faith is not the absence of struggle, guys, but how we endure through the struggle.”

#MakeEveryMomentCount
“You said that, guys? Yes or no? Yes. You blink your eyes. Your kids are in the cradle. You blink your eyes. They're in college. You blink your eyes. You got your grandkids. Right? At least you hope you do. Right? And you blink your eyes, and you're in a nursing home. Life goes quickly, doesn't it? You know that old saying, don't you, when they say you lived between... I was born in 1961. There's gonna be a dash in between that, and I don't know what year that will be, but it's what you do with that dash that matters. That's what this is all about. The judgment of life is how we spend each day for the glory of god. Did you hear that? That's why I talked about judgment here. The judgment of life is how we spend each day for the glory of god. Don't waste a moment.”

#LiveToGive
“God's given all of us different gifts and abilities to to work and to do things and to run businesses, to to to to work and and build things and stuff of that nature. God's given us gifts. Some of y'all, he's given great gifts to have really good gardens, and we enjoy those in the summertime, by the way. But god gives us those gifts not for us, but for us to give away. Because the greatest joy is not when what we get, the greatest joy is in what we give. Right?”

#DoersOfTheWord
“don't forget this. This never changes. We are plan a. There is no other plan. That's what this is all about. There is no other plan other than his plan. This is who we're called to be. tells us James wants us to be doers of the word, not just hearers of the word. He wants us to take the word to the world. Look around you. Look around you. There are people in your neighborhoods around us where we live who need Christ.”

#FirstFruits
“God's purpose since his first fruits in the Old Testament, first fruits represent the first and best portion of the harvest. Believers become the evidence of God's redemptive work in creation by what we do and how we live. A farmer sees this the first right fruit and knows the entire harvest is coming. James says believers are God's first fruits, evidence that he that he is making all things new through Christ.”

#OnMissionTogether
“God's means, the message of truth, but how's he gonna get there? We are plan a. There is no plan b. That's why we unashamedly ask our church, call our church, call all of us to be on mission together. We do not pay tithes or give to a church or 10 so that staff can do that. That is not... Our job is to equip the saints, do the work of ministry, and to join us in the mission. There is no plan b.”

#GodDoesNotTempt
“Think about... There's a crucial distinction here between trials from the outside and trials from the inside. God may test faith, but God never tempts towards sin. James says this. He says, god cannot be tempted by evil. His nature is perfectly holy. He never entices anyone to wickedness. There's a lot of theological significance to that. Every temptation begins with false theology. If we're not careful, we'll start believing stuff like this. God is withholding something good for me. Or God is inherently unfair because I'm going through this thing I'm going through. Or that god is responsible. James literally rejects each one of these.”
