#DailyPrayer
“As a child, I always thought that Daniel in the lion's den was such a great miraculous story because God went into the lion's den to get Daniel. As an adult, what I've appreciated is the miracle isn't in the lion's den. It's on the balcony where Daniel was three times a day that the living God would meet with him. We have that possibility. That miracle is yours and mine. We can meet God every day in prayer.”

#FaithOverFear
“Daniel, when he heard that the king said you'll be killed for worshiping anybody other than me, what's the first thing he does? He goes right back up to his rooftop and prays. Prophets call people to pray no matter what their circumstances are. Prophets call people to pray no matter who's in power. Prophets of the Old Testament should be the same as New Testament. We pray to God and put our faith in God alone even when circumstances look bleak.”

#FaithInAction
“Here's what I'm getting at. Prophecy is supposed to call people to pray, increase their faith, and change their behavior. It doesn't have to be a straight line in that order, but those components are what prophets do. They don't just get up and yell, hey, everybody. You're terrible people. See you next time. It was you are not focusing on God the way we're supposed to focus on God. Let us return to prayer. Let us put our faith in God in these circumstances, and let us therefore behave in ways that show that our faith is real. It is practical is what I'm saying. Fasting is not weird.”

#LiveYourFaith
“Daniel felt god's presence, and he was doing whatever he could in a system that he was not in power of. He is a slave. He is in a system which he is not in power, but he is finding a way to maintain his identity. So when we look at this story and we think about forthtelling, speaking out the truth about God for the present moment, we remember that prophecy then is consistent with prophecy now, not where it predicts the future, but where it calls people to basic practices of the faith. Repentance, comfort, clarity, correction. So when we speak that way to people, when we speak that way, we are, in essence, modern day prophets.”

#FastingAndPrayer
“Fasting is in the Bible. It is clear in the Old Testament and the New Testament, and Jesus modeled it himself. In Matthew, Mark, and Luke, the same story is retold where Jesus went out into the wilderness in preparation for his ministry, and he fasted. You can fast by abstaining from certain kinds of food, or you can fast by abstaining from anything that you enjoy.”

#TrustGodAlways
“how about a prayer for us? One that you can say with me now that reflects our belief, we don't need a prophet and a prophet test today because we have Christ. We do not need people that specifically think they can pray over us in some magical way and tell us about our future because Christ has already given us that. He is in you and me. So when I don't understand things, when I don't understand what's happening, I am living by the prophetic call to have faith anyway.”

#FaithfulInChrist
“It's prophecy about future telling because Christians believe that prophecy of old was fulfilled in Christ, as we'll see in a minute, and that really modern prophets, you and I, in Christ, are called to forthtelling instead of foretelling. Can you read this phrase with me? It's on the screen. Christ is the final prophet. Therefore, modern prophecy is about forthtelling instead of foretelling. So a truth from this story, Christians embrace faithfulness even when there are no signs of favor. Let's pray.”

#FaithAndIdentity
“It could be that he was making a statement about food that he was worried they were offering to idols, and then they put it on their table. So it was a common practice for people of other faith traditions to offer food to idols, and then they'd eat it instead of burning it. Some would be dedicated to these foreign gods, and then they'd eat it too. Could be that. We don't really know. What we do know is that Daniel is striving to maintain his identity by anything he can because god has called him to a purpose.”
