Faithfulness and Growth: God's Vision for Our Journey

Devotional

Sermon Summary

Sermon Clips

1. "At the end of the day, God's vision for us specifically is that we follow him, period, the end. We had Lucy's baptism last or a couple of weeks ago. We had Chris's baptism last year, Julianne and Glory. And every time someone's baptized, it's a public declaration that they're ready to follow Jesus in faith. And we celebrate that. Why? Because they have this vision of what God's doing in the world, and they want to follow that God." ([00:26:28] (42 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

2. "God's vision for us is what we're going to be talking about today, us personally, and next week God, uh, Joshua, God, Joshua will be talking about God's vision for the church, um, all over, but right now we're going to be talking about God's vision for us specifically. I'm going to talk about some Bible stuff. Don't glaze over. Every time I open the Bible, I see some of you who are sitting up listening as I'm telling stories, and then you just slouch down, and I'm like, yep, lost them. They're gone. Stick with me here. This is an exciting story, a good story, a story you know, a story everyone knows, a story you know if you're a Christian, a story you know if you're not a Christian." 3. "And when you think of the story that way, it, it kind of makes sense why God would tell them not to, eat of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil when I read that when I read this story and I've read it a thousand times in my life and I've always thought why Why? Why would God not want them to have knowledge of good and evil? That seems like a good thing, right? It seems good to know the difference between good and evil. But the text, if you look at what it says, it never says that." ([00:36:04] (44 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

4. "God didn't need us to till the fields. God didn't need us to name the animals. God wanted us. Because God loves us. God created children. God created people that he loves. And he wants them to be with him. And they were to grow in faithfulness and obedience. But Satan tricked them and told them to take the shortcut, right? Know all things now, even if you're not ready for it." ([00:38:14] (35 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

5. "God gives us what we need as we grow in faith. If you're first baptized, you're not saying or studying or going deep into the things that a 90-year-old theologian who's been studying the Bible his whole dang life is going to be talking about. You're in a different space. And quite frankly, as we talked about back in January, if you were here, quite frankly, we need the Bible. We need the Bible. We need the Bible. We need the Bible. We need the Bible. We need the Bible. We need the people, all of us in the church, who are starting out in their faith." ([00:50:58] (32 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

6. "God's vision for us. God's vision. God's vision for you and I is simple. God wants to be with us. God wants to be with us, and he wants us to be with him. God didn't create androids in the Garden of Eden. He created people because he wants us. He wants to be with us. God doesn't need you and I. He does not need you and I." 7. "Being great in faith, being a success in your faith, isn't about doing great, unbelievable things for God, at least in the way we know those to be. It's not that. No, being great in your faith is simple. It's being obedient. It's being faithful. Throughout scripture, we see God saying, to whom has been given more will be required. And we have him saying that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. And the faithfulness and obedience is what God wants from us and how we grow in faith." 8. "I've had people talk to me, call me this week and say, do you have election anxiety? And I was like, I have all anxiety ever. I don't know what you're talking about. Have you met me? I'm David. Yes, I have election anxiety because I have all the anxieties. Here's what I've noticed. I've been doing this for almost 10 years now here at this church. I've been doing the pastor thing for a couple of decades now. And here's what I've noticed throughout time. Bad things happen. Good things happen." 9. "And in all situations, God has somehow been faithful through it all. You're going to get through this week. You're going to get through this month. You're going to get through this year. Please get through this year. Don't get hit by a bus. God is faithful. God is good. As we leave this, this place, may we remember God's goodness. May we remember God's faithfulness and may we be faithful to the God that loves us. Go in peace." ([01:13:56] (27 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)
