Faithfulness is a small thing but it invites God to come in and move in a big way Ruth chapter 2 verse 1 reads as you see here now Naomi had a relative of her husband a worthy man of the clan of IMC whose name was Boaz now before I go any further I want to preface this by saying we didn't finish chapter one last week. [00:19:16]
Faithfulness starts with initiative faithfulness starts with initiative she didn't wait for a handout we don't see Ruth sitting with Naomi no don't mess with the camera because I'll be right back up there don't worry don't worry we don't see Ruth and Naomi coming back Naomi turning emo and now being called Mara or wanting to be even though she's not alone. [00:24:33]
It's as if she's setting out a an initiative that if I step out in faith I don't know whose field I'm going to be in I don't know how we're going to make it I don't know how the bills are going to get paid but if I do something for God I just feel like he's going to do something back. [00:26:27]
God's providence is always working behind the scenes even in what we would call random events I don't think there are random events I really believe that God likes to control the things that we call coincidence and in this case he saw somebody that wasn't waiting for a handout but was going to go looking for the food. [00:28:30]
Boaz is offering Ruth protection provision and belonging God's favor often comes through the people he appoints at the end of the day gleaning is rough work but at the end of the week the bill gets paid at the in the moment taking up the ears of corn or not corn in this case but whatever the grain was that they were working with. [00:34:37]
Ruth is humbled by the kindness that's shown to her as a foreigner favor is unearned grace Ruth didn't expect it oh but she received it let that speak to your spirit verse 11 and 12 Boaz he answers her all that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband it has been fully told to me. [00:45:27]
Your obedience can reignite someone else's faith did you hear that you following God when you think that you're just in that man I just showed up in this field and like you are getting the blessings and you're like man I got lucky I haven't been blessed by this you don't even realize it that that blessing may just turn into a renition of someone else's faith in God. [00:57:17]
Ruth remains faithful throughout the whole season you see true favor it's not just a moment it's sustained through consistent faithfulness where are your blessings and when have they gone okay I would like you to think about that for a minute are you living in the blessings and if not is there possibly a reason have you strayed from the field of Boaz. [00:59:38]
