65s
“``And that my friends is the good news of the gospel. Isn't that such good news? That it's no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me? Don't you see that that's the path of the false prophets and the idols of our day? The cultural gods of our day? Asking, asking, asking, demanding, demanding, demanding, and giving nothing in return. Leaving you wasted, strung out. And the invitation of Jesus is, why don't you go ahead and bring all that to me? Let me take it and hang it on the cross. And it'll be no longer you who live, but Christ will live in you. Behold a new thing.”
46s
“Please, I'm pleading with you. This is not the gospel message. And it masquerades as a gospel message. That's what makes it so insidious. They get to heaven part. There is a God who created part. But it wholly removes the bad news. And why have I finally come to this point in my life as a millennial, you know, at 30, who is about to be 40 apparently? Why have I finally come to the conclusion where I'm gonna preach about bad news? Why? Because it gives the blasting power to the good news.”
83s
“What record of good works or being nice will get me in? And, there's no record but Jesus. I only wanna put not my 51% grade or my 89% grade or even my 99% grade. The word of God is so clear. The prophets say, they're like filthy rags to me. Your good deeds are like filthy rags. So, thank God that he sent his son. That on the day of judgment, again, is that bad news? Are we scared? Not for those who have Jesus, the risen and spotless lamb who stands in front of us, should Jesus come back the next moment. Do you feel the confidence and security of God's name on you today? I hope you do. And if you don't, we're gonna pray later and just create space for you to come to that conclusion by the power of the holy spirit that you can trust his name. You don't have to trust your own name or your own devices or your own partial record to curry favor with Jesus.”
52s
“God calls Jeremiah to say unsayable things. How'd you like that job? Jeremiah is gonna say the things that no one else would say, here's his message. Judgment is coming. Babylon is God's instrument. God is the cause of the discipline. Babylon and its king Nebuchadnezzar is the instrument or the hand of God. And no amount of religious activity is gonna stop at this time. Jeremiah surrounded by all these false prophets. And they're preaching peace, peace, nothing's gonna happen, nothing bad will befall you, kings of Jerusalem. The priests are playing along, the kings are making political deals to the last day. The kings are making political deals to their last day. And Jeremiah, weeping, reluctant sometimes, mocked, thrown into a cistern, like we just read, keeps telling the truth that nobody wants to hear.”
