Sermon Summary

Sermon Clips

"But in a world of instant gratification, Abraham's unwavering trust in God, you know, the, the seeming impossible promise that God gives to him sets the stage for the ultimate fulfillment that we get at Christmas, which is the birth of Jesus. The answer to these questions is what is wrong with this world? Well, the nations are all amok. Sin is rampant. Spiritual forces are all over the place messing with God's created world. How is this all going to get solved?" [00:02:48] (32 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

"And he has a plan. God has a plan. He says it's going to be through Abraham. I've got a promise. It's going to be through Abraham. But Abraham, I have to believe it. Abraham has to then say, okay, I'll trust that. And I'm going to move forward with that. And I can't see what it's going to do, but I'm just going to trust you." "In some sense, what have I got to lose? But in other ways, I now feel like I've come face to face with the creator of all things, the one who can bring life out of death. And so, I trust you. And you guys know this. Trust is the big issue." [00:04:26] (18 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

"So, it's his faithfulness to his promise, to fulfill his promises that we then trust in. And so, then we just offer our believing loyalty to the one who can." [00:05:48] (11 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

"God promises all these descendants and his trust that God is going to do this is what counts as righteousness to him. I think we've made that point a few times. You can read these passages later. You can realize that the calling and this covenant with him, it's like God is going to do it." [00:24:10] (21 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

"Timing, it may take generations and generations and generations and generations. I've had some callings over my life that I'm like, okay, the clock's ticking, clock's ticking, clock's ticking. And a friend, I think he's a friend, said, you know, I don't think he ever said to you that that was going to happen within your lifetime." [00:24:31] (21 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

"And then we just grow stronger in our believing loyalty. Every step you take with Jesus starts to confirm that you can trust him more, and then you can trust him more, and then you can trust him more. So it's all about following Jesus. I used to confuse people ridiculously when, this was probably 20 years ago in ministry, and I was saying, hey, where has following Jesus taken you today or this week? And they look at me like, what does that have to do with anything? Like, well, we're followers of Jesus, right?" [00:33:59] (28 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

"Because guys, our willingness to trust God's timing allows us to participate in his ongoing plan to redeem the world. If you get frustrated early, as you follow Jesus, you'll be frustrated often." [00:35:47] (14 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

"And we can be reminded that His promises sometimes unfold over generations. I remember, and this is probably your problem too, so I won't be... I won't own this completely. But oftentimes I think about my... what God is doing in my life as kind of the center of what God's doing in the world." [00:36:56] (25 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)
