Finally Brethren pray for us that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified just as it is with you that and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men for not all have faith and I find it very interesting that very often in Paul's writing if I've counted correctly there are seven other references. [00:01:28]

Paul said it a lot in almost every letter he wrote not each and every letter but almost every letter his request was this would you please pray for us don't you really believe Paul understood that the success of his ministry in some measure depended on the prayers of God's people. [00:02:20]

God wants us to pray and he wants us to know he wants us to believe that our prayers make a difference our prayers just aren't some kind of wink up to the heavens where we say Okay Lord you're going to do whatever you're going to do and what I say or do or don't do it doesn't make any difference anyway. [00:03:28]

Paul's great concern was that the word of God would be free to do its work among other people even as it had done among the Thessalonians notice how he phrased that in verse one he said just as it is with you in other words Paul wanted the Thessalonians to think like this hey look isn't God doing something good around us. [00:06:14]

It is true that God has promised that his word would be free God promised that his word would perform work you remember that great passage in Isaiah CH 55:1 remember that let me read it to you uh my word shall not return to me void but it shall accomplish what I please and prosper in the thing for which I sent it. [00:09:00]

But the Lord is faithful who will establish you and guard you from the evil one and we have confidence in the Lord concerning you both that you do and will do the things that we command you now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and to the patience of Christ you see Not all men have faith. [00:11:32]

May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ so this is his prayer this is a prayer for the Thessalonians Lord would you please give the Thessalonians love and patience now I need to be a little bit clear about that word patience we all need patience I need patience I'm a fairly impatient person. [00:15:25]

The kind of patience that Paul is speaking about here the specific ancient word that he used that we translate patience here has more the idea of a faithful endurance than it does just waiting around you you know sometimes how you can uh wait at a red light or be delayed in traffic and get really annoyed by that you just kind of have to wait it out. [00:16:06]

Paul will explain now look at verse eight nor did we eat anyone's bread free of charge but work with labor and toil night and day that we might not be a burden to any of you not because we do not have authority but to make ourselves an example of how you should follow us you see Paul was an excellent example among the Thessalonians. [00:30:31]

For even when we were with you we commanded you this if anyone will not work neither shall he eat whoa hey Moochers of thica get to work what's wrong with you guys Paul said I didn't live that way among you now I think it's very interesting how he says here in verse 10 even when we were with you we command you Paul's saying I'm not giving you news. [00:32:19]

Now May the Lord of Peace himself give you peace always in every way the Lord be with you all what a blessing a blessing of peace now I don't know if you remember as we've gone through first and 2 Thessalonians but this was a church this was a place where the church was experiencing persecution and when the church is experiencing persecution they need the peace of God. [00:42:45]

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all amen the letter began by mentioning the grace of God It Ends by mentioning the grace of God friends isn't that the Christian Life from beginning to end the beautiful powerful grace of God and I just want to emphasize one thing in closing here G camel Morgan emphasized this look at it there he says the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. [00:47:39]
