#WordsRevealFaith
“is here's where you see the rubber meet the road completely, is your words either reflect a heart that's been transformed by Christ, or they reveal a heart that's still yielding to sin. You know, you're in that roundabout of Buckies, you're still letting sin take it. Go ahead. I'll follow you, and I can tell you where sin leads you. Nowhere good. That's your two options. Either I'm reflecting a heart that has been transformed by Christ, and that's what James is trying to get us to understand. Either my heart and I am completely made anew or I'm still stuck yielding to sin, whether it's through my pride, through my gossip, through the belittling of the people that I love or say that I love. wanna know how deep your faith is? Try thinking about the words that are coming out of your mouth.”

#SpeakLifeOrDeath
“But this week's no different. Here's that question for you. Is your language bringing things to life or burning things down? Your language bringing things to life or burning things down? Here's the thing. There might be it might be twofolded for you. There may be situations in your life that you are ushering in the of the living God. You are bringing life. You're bringing healing. You're bringing restoration. And and and write down those things because the reason you've gotten there is through the power of the Holy Spirit. Like, remember what he's done and what he's doing. But you also gotta evaluate this. Am I burning things down? Is there a relationship in your life that needs reconciliation? Are there conversations you need to have with your kids of just repentance? I'm sorry. I love you. I'm proud of you. I'm there for you. Coworkers that I have got to stop gossiping with because it leads nowhere. Whatever that may be for you, write those things down. Is there language bringing things to life or burning it down?”

#KnowYourWorthInChrist
“You get your mouth under control, your whole body's gonna listen to you. You get that figured out? And for some of you, man, you're sitting in a situation or life where you are just so unhappy, you are sad, you're tired, you're beaten down by the reality of this world around you. And, man, if you would just change the things that you're saying about yourself, everything would change. You know, no one has to tear you down. You do a good enough job on your own. And what my bible says, I was fearfully and wonderfully knit in my mama's womb that he has a plan and a purpose for me in my life. He has something that he wants for me. And maybe for some of us, that's what you need to start believing. I mean, you're tearing yourself all over the place because you're believing what an ex husband, an ex wife, or an ex friend has said about you. That's not true. knows you, he loves you, and he sees you. And here's my truth too. Ain't nobody got a right to define you unless they're willing to die for you, and I'm pretty sure Jesus is the only one that's willing to die for you out here today. And if that's the truth, that's where my worth comes from. That's where my worth comes from.”

#WordsStartFires
“Like he like he tells us, because here's what can happen. Here is the the onset of what can happen because of of the words that we say. A great force set on by a small spark. All it takes is one word. All it takes is one gossip conversation. All it takes is one inappropriate conversation with somebody that ain't your spouse. All it takes is one conversation to go too far in a situation you didn't ask for. All it takes is one conversation for you to say something about a kid that they remember for the rest of their life. And, we believe in repentance. We believe in reconciliation. Absolutely. But sometimes you set that fire, and once it's set, you ain't putting it out. And that's just the truth.”

#ProgressNotPerfection
“He did everything that was required of him to to be perfect, and that that's that's who we're supposed to emulate. That's who we're supposed to model. He's the the only option for you and I to get there. And here's the thing, you're never going to. Like, this is so depressing. I get it. But we're that's the whole sanctification process. Right? It's to look more like Christ today than I did yesterday. That's it. I promise you Christ is not expecting perfection from you. He's expecting progression from you. All he wants from you is to continue to look more like him today than you did yesterday. That's that's it. That's your barometer. That's your that's your gauge to know where you are. Do I look more like Christ today than I did yesterday?”

#CultivateLifeWithWords
“And what is what we need is a transformed heart because the impact of my words can have on those around me because here's what happens. This is what your words do. Again, it's it's one or the other. It either cultivates life. It either creates an environment where life is most conducive, where it can flourish, where it can flow, where, it it can be beautiful and and confident and authoritative on the word of scripture and compassionate through the heart of scripture or destruction. You see a pattern here? Life or destruction. It's one or the other that we can bring to the power of the spirit that is within us by the word of the lord that actually saves us. That's what we can do. Because am bringing hope or hopelessness? Am I bringing healing or hurting? Am I bringing trust? Or am I just making a situation more suspicious? Do I have courage or fear? Do I have unity or division?”

#LeadWithGrace
“Where am I taking this whole thing? Am I bringing my marriage towards deeper intimacy or growing resentment? Am I am I raising a child towards confidence and security or fear and insecurity? Am I part of the church that brings unity or unnecessary division? I got a lot to say about that, but not enough time. If am I am I in a difficult conversation? Am I getting us toward reconciliation, or am I bringing a further separation in this whole thing? Which one? And here's the truth. Whichever one you're going to shows how deep your faith actually is. We're a chosen people. You are a holy priesthood. Where you walk, everywhere you go is holy ground. And when you walk into places, what are you bringing with you?”

#RedemptionCoversAll
“Because I get it. You might feel defeated in this room. You might feel beaten down by your actions and by your words, or you might feel beaten down by the words of people that you love or words you've said about yourself. And what I get to say up here with confidence is there is blood that was shed that covers every single one of those. There is redemption. There is healing. There is mercy. There is grace. There is justification. There is the sanctification process. There is a opportunity to be made more like Christ, you were were, yes, just like James says, it's through the words through his words we can be saved. And so that's what this represents for you and I today, is that there is something more.”
56s
#OwnYourWords
“I'm sorry for the way you took what I said. Yeah. Come on. I'm so sorry you took what I said that way. What? That doesn't work because you are held responsible for the words that come out of your mouth. Now here's the truth on the other side of that too. I'm not held responsible for for how they are perceived, absolutely. But for the words that come out of my mouth, I am held solely responsible for that because they come from somewhere. They come from something, and it comes from my heart, my soul, my inner being, who who I am. It's not by chance. Right? Like, it's not one of things where it just happens one day and you start talking or belittling the people around you. It's a pattern. It's something we do over and over again. And, again, like James is gonna tell us today, it directly shows what our faith is.”

#TongueHasPower
“And, again, it it it's heavy because it is, because the power of our tongue, you've known it. You've been on the receiving side of that. There's something that a friend has said to you, a parent said to you probably ten years ago that you have not forgotten, and it shakes you to your core. Why? Because that's the power our tongue has in our life. And what we have to think about, the question I want you to put in your mind for the rest of this this sermon is, with my words, am I bringing life or death? With the words that come out of my mouth am I bringing life or death? Not CPR, okay, you're not resuscitating somebody. But the words that come out of my mouth, they actually bring life.”
85s
#PauseExamineChoose
“Because I think if we're gonna apply something as wonderful as James in our life, wanna give you an application tool as well. And the first thing is it's every situation before you speak and your your spouse is gonna love me. Pause. Just stop immediately responding. Just take a second. It'll feel like a lifetime. Take a second and and think this question, does this really need to be said right now? Is this what I need to say? Is this what the moment needs? Is this going to bring about something that brings spiritual maturity? Or sometimes why I just need keep my mouth shut? The second thing is this, examine. Why do I wanna say this? Because those thoughts come quickly. They come very, very quickly. Is what I'm saying bringing life or death? Is the words that the word that is about to come out of my mouth is not gonna bring life or death to this situation. And it's not immediate death. And it's not even immediate life. It takes time. And the last question is this, you have to choose, will these words bring life or death? And they're all they're all based upon each other. Does this does this need to be said? Why do I wanna say this? And will these words bring life or death? Pause, examine, and choose. Pause, examine, and choose. And Paul tells us what we need to choose today, church.”

#IgniteWithSpirit
“That's why the words that you say carry some weight. But also, a fire can bring light to a dark room. Also a fire? So the Israelites knew where they were going by night and where they were at in their camp. See, what you do with that fire, that's where the power of the holy spirit comes in. Because, man, maybe you need to ignite that relationship back. Maybe you need to ignite people in your life to make them feel confident and holy and worthy. But, see, there there is a fire that you can use in a way that brings life, but it can also again, it can bring death. It's one or the other. It's one or the other.”
59s
#SpeakHealingNotHurt
“His proverb tells us this, the words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise bring healing. Again, you see that either or. It's either I'm bringing I'm piercing like a sword or I'm bringing healing. And I I would much further bring life than death. And the thing what happens when we get to that point, that result, All it is is a result that that what of what's inside of us. Again, think about a toothpaste bottle. That toothpaste is already in there. When I squeeze it and put it on my teeth, it's coming out. Was already in there, and I can't put the toothpaste back in the bottle. I have tried, And you can't. There's no going back. Now, again, I can put that top on there, but there's still, you know, the little toothpaste already come out. So I wanna do everything I can to make sure that is what is inside of me is an overflow of my heart, of a life with Christ, of a life that is secure and maturing in our faith.”

#QuickToListenSlowToSpeak
“Because this is this is hard, a hard pill to swallow if I'm being honest with you. But before we get there, remember this is your anecdote. This is your response. This is the practical, applicable things that you can put in your life to be someone that actually brings life. So here's the thing, shut your mouth and listen. Praise God. Everybody's like, yes, son. Honey, you hearing this? My wife can't nudge me because she ain't sitting up for praise God. But quick to listen. I'm learning this as a young parent. Sometimes if I would shut my mouth long enough to listen to my boy talk, it's Scott. I don't get as angry. Same thing for you and I and friendships that we have, and then just take your time speaking. And you're like me, I need to slow down anyway because you can't understand what I'm saying. But in general, just slow down. Take a minute. Why don't I listen to the situation? You've been given something that the whole entire world doesn't have, discernment to the power of the holy spirit. Use because any situation you step into with that kind of discernment, that kind of wisdom, you're able to respond much more clearly, much more confidently with authority and with passion, and with humility, and honesty, and love that can only come from a savior.”
62s
#SlowToAnger
“And then this, just stop getting mad so fast. And for some of us, it's not even necessarily being angry. Sometimes you get so you get on the defense. Someone says something and you get so defensive. Like, constructive criticism, you're like, there, no, it just brings the whole thing down. Right? And some of us, that's it's it's to become angry is to just, like, calm down, but for some of you, it's just, just, listen, not everybody's out to get you. I promise not everybody's out to hurt you. Sometimes people wanna help you be better. Sometimes people want you to improve in your life spiritually, mentally, physically. They want to be there for you. They want to help you become who God has created you to be. Because, again, if you are a son and daughter of the living king, you are made for something so much bigger and better than yourself. Mediocrity is not in your vocabulary. You were made for something great, but it starts remembering this. Because he understands how in the world am I gonna do this? The word's gotta be planted firmly in you. That's it.”

#LiveLikeChristDaily
“If the mouth is in check, the whole body follows. That's what James is trying to tell you. If you start to look more like Christ today than yesterday, you have no choice but to emulate his life. If you continuously read scripture and apply it in your life and look at the words in the life of Christ and try to become like that, I hate to tell you this, but you're only gonna look like him more. I really don't have another option. If this is what you emulate, this is what you implement in your life, you have to. I I don't know what else to tell you because this is what's going inside of you, so that's what's gonna come out of you. And and so because of that, that's what he's saying. If we would be willing to make ourself look more like Christ, if we'd be willing to take on the the the life of Christ, what he did in the early followers and the early church, man, I can keep myself in check.”
46s
#WordsInfluenceLives
“But I would ask you that same question today. What kind of impact and influence are you having to the people around you and the words that come out of your mouth? Are they made better? Is their life changing for the and, again, we're not talking when you when you stub your toe and you say your favorite four letter word. Like, we're not talking about that. We're talking about the overflow of what's inside of your heart. We're talking about what comes up when life hits you in the face, when you are in a situation you don't wanna be in anymore. You are in a circumstance that you didn't ask for, but here we are. Or you have people in your life who have come to you with with things that you've said to them years ago that you honestly remember that you did. But the words we say and the influence we have impact people for a very, very long time.”
53s
#BringLifeNotDivision
“And so we have to decide as the people of God what kind of impact are we gonna make to the people around us because there's only two options. Because number one, here's what's gonna happen in our big ideas. It's it's gonna reveal the condition of your heart. We're gonna know where you stand and how deep or how shallow your faith is. We're gonna know very, very quickly what you put into your mouth, what you put into your soul, what you put into your mind when the when the rubber meets the road, when circumstances happen, when you respond with gossip by gossip, we're gonna know what's actually going on in that heart of yours. And here's what comes that. Either you are bringing life and cultivating life to the people around you and changing and altering people's circumstances for the good of of God and of those that love him. Either you are doing that or you're killing every single thing in your path.”
55s
#FaithWithWorks
“Where exactly is my faith? And if you're like me, maybe you've questioned it before, which again is not a bad thing. Maybe you've you're just not sure where you stand, and I love this this illustration. A favorite pastor of mine says that on a scale of one to 10, how sure are you that you are going to heaven tomorrow? If your answer isn't 10, we got some work to do. And our hope for you as followers of Christ and as a church and as a body of believers is that every day when you go to bed and every day you wake up with breath in those lungs, you feel like a 10. Is that you feel so confident in who you are, there is evidence to the faith that you possess. And again, James does a great job of our faith has to be a bothand. There there has to be, yes, faith, but there should be deeds that follow it. Our lives should reflect the faith that that we say we profess, that we say we hold so deeply and and closely to our life.”
51s
#FaithInAction
“``What makes a deed good? Is it the action or the heart behind it? Because anyone can do something good, but good deeds don't create faith. They reveal it. Scripture isn't impressed by appearances. Scripture says that faith without works is dead. To be doers of the word, to be quick to listen, show no favoritism. Because every trial, every word, relationship, every choice, they all reveal our faith. And before anyone sees what you do, they hear what you say. Faith isn't measured by our words. It's revealed by our lives. So when your life is read, what will it say about your faith?”
