Faith, Redemption, and the Journey to Healing

Summary

In this sermon, I shared my personal journey of faith, love, and redemption. I began by reflecting on Romans 8:28, emphasizing our belief that God can orchestrate everything to work towards something good and beautiful when we love Him and live according to His plan. I shared the story of my relationship with my wife, from our meeting in graduate school to our calling to vocational ministry, and our service in various churches. However, I also confessed to a period of personal struggle and sin, which led to a significant strain in our relationship and my eventual resignation from the church we had led for 25 years.

In the second part of the sermon, I delved into the spiritual warfare we face, highlighting how Satan seeks to steal, kill, and destroy anything connected to God in our lives. I emphasized the destructive power of secrets and the liberating power of honesty, drawing from the Book of James 5:16. I shared my personal experience of confession and repentance, recounting how God drew closer to me in my moment of deep remorse and offered hope for a resurrection in my marriage and family relationships. I concluded by sharing the steps we took towards healing and restoration, emphasizing that it was a slow and challenging process that required hard work, counseling, and a willingness to do the hard things.

Devotional

Day 1: Worship as a Lifeline

In times of pain and uncertainty, worship can serve as a lifeline, helping us express faith and hope when they seem far away. Worship music, in particular, can remind us of God's truth and provide a firm foundation when everything else feels shaky. It shifts our focus from our problems onto the One who can safely hold our hearts ([13:05 ]).

Psalm 34:18 - "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

Reflection: Reflect on a time when worship music helped you through a difficult situation. How did it shift your focus and provide comfort?

Day 2: The Power of Repentance

Repentance is more than just feeling remorseful; it involves turning away from sin. When we confess our sins to God, we can experience His grace, forgiveness, and freedom. This confession is the first step towards healing and restoration ([19:04 ]).

Proverbs 28:13 - "Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy."

Reflection: Consider a time when you had to repent for a sin. How did confession lead to healing and restoration in your life?

Day 3: God's Nearness in Heartbreak

In the midst of heartbreak, betrayal, or loss, God is near. He invites us to come to Him with our pain and promises to give us rest. Even when it feels like it's just Saturday in our lives, the day between death and life, God specializes in bringing dead things back to life ([42:08 ]).

Psalm 34:18 - "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

Reflection: Reflect on a time when you felt God's nearness in a season of heartbreak. How did His presence bring comfort and hope?

Day 4: The Day Between Death and Life

Sometimes, we find ourselves in a "Saturday" season, the day between death and life. But just as there was a Resurrection Sunday for Jesus, there can be a Resurrection Sunday in our lives if we trust God and do what He asks us to do ([21:10 ]).

John 11:25 - "Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.'"

Reflection: Reflect on a "Saturday" season in your life. How did you see God bring resurrection and life in that situation?

Day 5: Offloading Burdens

God invites us to offload our burdens onto Him. Whether it's uncertainty about eternal life or any other concern, we can bring them to God and leave them at His altar. In doing so, we can experience His peace and rest ([46:41 ]).

1 Peter 5:7 - "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

Reflection: What burdens are you carrying right now? How can you offload them onto God and experience His peace?

Quotes

1. "Our actions today are driven and rooted in our beliefs and behaviors of yesterday. Everything we choose to do and say are rooted somewhere. They're rooted in our past in behaviors that we've engaged in or beliefs that we've accepted as true." - 27:01

2. "God is able to orchestrate everything to work towards something good and beautiful when we love him and accept his invitation to live according to his plan. Our prayer has been that God would somehow take this mess and work it together towards something good and beautiful as we choose to trust him and to live according to the plan that he has for us." - 02:52

3. "The thief has come to steal and kill and destroy but I have come that you would have life and have it abundantly. Satan wants to do anything he can to thwart the plans of God and that pertains to your life as well. He will steal your joy, your freedom, your passion. He will kill your future, your relationships, your family and he will destroy anything that God is wanting to do in your life and through your life." - 32:44

4. "Secrets make you sick. The secrets that we hold on to that we say we're going to go to our grave with those are the very things that the enemy uses against us in the way of Shame and condemnation. Secrets kill but honesty leads us to a place of freedom and intimacy." - 32:44

5. "If you desire to have healthy relationships in your life, it only begins with honesty. You have to be honest. Intimacy is based on trust and if the person can't trust you'll never have an intimate relationship with them. That trust is based on safety if they don't feel safe they're not going to trust you." - 32:44
