David opens Psalm 27 with a confession that refuses to let fear have the final word: “The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear?” David is not writing from a place where trouble has disappeared. Enemies are plotting, an army may be coming, and the odds look stacked against him. Yet David refuses to count only men, weapons, bills, resources, or what is coming against him. Faith has to be bigger than fear.

Prayer has to include listening: “God, what are the orders for today?” Faith grows stronger when a life seeks God’s plan instead of asking God merely to bless its own plan.

God’s shelter becomes the place of peace, joy, and covering in the day of trouble. God conceals His people, lifts them upon a rock, and raises their heads above the enemy. Joy then becomes a sacrifice, not because everything looks all right, but because God remains present and faithful.

David ends by saying, “Wait on the Lord.” Waiting is not weakness. Waiting is where God strengthens the heart. Faith over fear comes from knowing that the Lord is light, salvation, strength, shelter, and the One who gives victory.
