Psalm 112 holds up a picture of the man God blesses: “Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments.” The text does not begin with money, success, comfort, or achievements. The text begins with the fear of the Lord, because the greatest thing a father can give his family is not what he owns, but the God he serves.

A last will and testament may decide what happens to assets after death, but Psalm 112 points to something far more significant: a faith that outlives a man. A father who fears the Lord becomes a father whose children feel it, whose grandchildren benefit from it, and whose generations walk in the overflow of his faithfulness. A father may not have the loudest voice in the home, but his quiet influence is often the most shaping one.
