God’s work in a life is too big to stay hidden on Sunday. His power changes people, breaks old patterns, and gives a testimony worth telling. But the lie that nothing has really changed gets loud when life gets hard or another stumble brings back shame. The devil lies, and the lie can become a person’s own confession: addiction will always win, freedom will never come, and the family history will keep repeating.
“It’s different now” pushes back against that lie because of what Jesus has done. God’s family gives believers an identity bigger than the patterns of their earthly family. Addiction, anxiety, guilt, and shame do not get to call the future settled. That old pattern “had a good run until it ran into” someone whose life now belongs to Christ.
Belief is the first response to that new reality. Faith does not demand to see the miracle before believing God is working. Faith takes hold of what God says even when feelings and circumstances have not caught up. Belief drives behavior: a changed understanding of what is true opens the way to a changed way of living. Second Corinthians 5:17 puts the foundation under that confidence: anyone in Christ is a new creation. The old is gone. The new is here.
Public faith is the next response. A personal decision was never meant to become a private secret. The blood of the Lamb and the word of testimony connect personal transformation with another person’s opportunity to overcome. Romans 1 calls for an unashamed confidence in the gospel because God’s power brings salvation through it.
Water baptism puts that belief on display. The Ethiopian eunuch, Saul, the Philippian jailer’s household, and the believers at Pentecost show a pattern of responding without delay. Baptism is an outward expression of an inward transformation. Immersion pictures burial with Christ, and rising from the water pictures new life.
Salvation comes through confessing Jesus and believing that God raised him from the dead, not through baptism. Baptism remains a clear step of obedience, not an optional decoration. A childhood baptism carries personal significance when it involved understanding and personal choice. Family schedules, wet hair, and inconvenience cannot carry more weight than obedience to God.
Jesus makes this response possible through his sinless life, brutal death, and resurrection. His saving grace reaches people regardless of their past. God offers more than a religious moment: restored relationship with the Father and a changed life worth displaying.
Key Takeaways
- 1. New identity interrupts the old story. Christ’s new creation confronts the claim that a family pattern must become a permanent identity. The promise of change rests on belonging to him, not on pretending the past never happened. “It’s different now” names a new foundation for life rather than another attempt at self-improvement. [09:39]
- 2. Belief shapes the direction of behavior. Faith refuses to make visible progress the only evidence that God is working. The lie of permanent bondage can shape decisions before another failure ever happens. God’s promise gives obedience a different starting point: freedom becomes something to act upon, not merely something to wish for. [08:52]
- 3. Personal faith was never meant for hiding. Public testimony gives God the credit for what private struggle could not accomplish. Secrecy can keep another person from seeing that change is possible. Unashamed faith turns a changed life into a witness to the gospel’s power rather than a display of personal achievement. [12:54]
- 4. Baptism displays grace through willing obedience. Baptism does not purchase salvation or complete something missing from Christ’s saving work. Its significance lies in openly identifying with his death and resurrection. Clear obedience puts belief on display without making the outward act the source of inward transformation. [20:33]
