#DivineCovenantPromise
“``And what you notice is that God walks the path by himself, and when he does it, he's declaring something really important. I want you to hear this if you don't hear anything else. God walks the path by himself and puts Abram to the side because God says, I'm gonna keep both sides of this covenant. See, usually you'd walk with the party you're making the commitment with and you're like, hey, if we don't keep it, one of us will die just like these animals. God says, I'm gonna keep it for you, Abraham. And if you and your descendants don't keep this covenant, I will die in your place. This is one of the very first signposts what Christ would do.”

#BoughtOurBrokenness
“Listen, I don't know what you've broken. Maybe you've broken parts of your story. Addiction owns you. You've broken the faith and trust that your wife has in you or your husband has in you. You've broken your children's hearts. You've broken God's heart. Maybe you've broken your self esteem and self confidence. Maybe you just feel broken. That's what sin does. It breaks us. Maybe some of us are trying to buy it on our own effort. We're working so hard. We're like, God, do you see how much I'm working? God's like, it doesn't work that way. I need to give it to you. I need to credit it to you because you can never earn it. That's the heart of the gospel. We broke it. He bought it for us.”

#GodBuysTheBroken
“Yeah, I don't know if you've ever walked into one of the stores, Downtown Spartanburg or maybe in Landrum or someplace on vacation where they have a lot of breakable things. I don't know if you come in there with small children. I've done that multiple times. It's nightmare inducing. You're like, touch that. Don't touch that. Don't touch that. Don't touch that. That's what you do. Because there's these signs that you see that say, if you break it, you buy it. You ever seen one of those? Let me tell you, I bought some stuff I never wanted to buy. Ballerinas, dogs doing weird things. Right? You're like, I I guess I broke it. I gotta buy it. That's what it means to have a covenant that you have to keep, but this is what God offers in Jesus Christ. God says, you break it, I buy it.”

#MercyBeforeJudgment
“Because God is delaying for people to still repent. God was giving mercy and grace to those who were living in the land before he brought the people of Israel as his judgment against them. And sometimes you may see people continuing in sinful behavior like, god, where are you in the middle of this? God's like, I'm giving them time to repent, and everybody has a fixed time that I'm gonna give them to repent. And at some point, that time is gonna be over. But don't mistake god's patience with him being somebody that doesn't care And that there won't be any judgment later. See, God permits people live in rebellion until the moment of judgments. He is. And you see that in our world around us. There's brokenness everywhere. You may go like, why are you allowing evil and terrible things to happen? Because God is merciful and is giving sinners an opportunity to repent, and he's allowing them to live in rebellion until the moment of judgment. But he's hoping that people will repent and believe.”

#TellGodYourFears
“And I think it's actually so refreshing to see God answer Abram and come to the very point of Abram's deepest longings. Because God's not afraid of our fears. You know, you may have something that you're afraid of. You're afraid of what the next doctor's visit's gonna bring you. You're afraid of where our country is going. You may be afraid of not ever reconciling with somebody that you love. There may be something that you're afraid of. You're afraid of being alone. You're afraid of the future. There are things that we're desperately afraid of. And sometimes we don't voice them to God because we're like, man, it feels like I'm weak if I would show that fear. And we don't necessarily talk about it with other people. Why? Because we don't want people to think that we're, like, weak or afraid, but God is not afraid of our fears, and he welcomes our questions. You may have questions about whether or not you can trust God, whether he's real. God's not scared of any of that.”

#FollowingIncludesSuffering
“Now how does that break our understanding, like, what's fair and right and what God does? You know, I think a lot of us, we think, like, man, if I give my life to Jesus, if I, like, figure it all out, if I, like, follow him, everything is gonna be up and to the right, and I'm never gonna have to suffer or struggle again. And God's like, no. You're gonna follow me. And guess what? Your family is gonna go through suffering, oppression, and slavery. That's part of the deal. You know, sometimes following Jesus can be hard, but God is still doing something that we just don't see.”

#FaithAsLoyalty
“Faith is loyalty. And here you find Abraham believing God and choosing to be loyal and God's like, that's the kind of person that I want following And so God says, I'm gonna bring you to a place where we're gonna have a covenant. Not a contract, not a piece of paper. That's not how they did their covenants back then. They did it by creating an aisle.”
28s
#FaithNotFormula
“And so you find people saying, hey, if I have faith, then I can have wealth. If I have faith, I won't be sick. But faith in the bible is connected to another concept that I think a lot of us miss. Biblical faith equals loyalty. Biblical faith equals loyalty. It's not simply wanting something or believing that it's true.”

#TrustGodsBiggerPlan
“God says, I'm gonna bring them out. And he says this, and and this is something I just want you to just hear. I want you to hear this, that God is accomplishing things and he's accomplishing a plan that's far bigger than you and I can imagine. You know, sometimes we see just pieces of it, and you may be seeing pieces of it in your life, and you're like, god, how are you good in the middle of this? God is working all things for good for those who love him and trust him. But sometimes we don't see how he's going to do it or why he's doing it.”

#SayYesToJesus
“For those of you guys who've never made a decision to follow Jesus, today can be the day we accept the offer Jesus has made you, which is that he'll buy it. He'll buy the brokenness, and you'll fix it, restore it. And so if you've never trusted Jesus Christ or spent so long that you don't remember the last time you gave your heart to him, I wanna invite you to do that right now. Just say, Jesus, I accept the gift. I accept the offer that you paid for in your blood when you walked an aisle for me. And I trust you with my life. If that's you, just give him your loyalty today forever. Above all things, above all other loves, above all else that your heart belongs to Jesus.”

#NewCovenantInHisBlood
“You know, Jesus on the night that he's betrayed said, I'm creating with you a new covenant in my blood. Jesus lived a perfect life, gave his life for you because you cannot keep the covenant just like Abraham. You're somebody needs a savior. Someone says, I'm gonna keep both sides of this agreement. And Jesus paid the price so that we could have peace with God.”

#AskGodForYourDesire
“So it's interesting. says, God, that's cool. You want me to you you you're gonna be my shield and you're gonna give me a reward, but you can't give me what I really want. Like, you can give me wealth. I already have that. You give me a long life. I already have that. But can you give me the desire of my heart? That's what I need. He says, I I have no children, and the guy that works for me, Eliezar, somebody who's a slave born in my house, is gonna inherit everything you've given me. And here you find him having a very honest conversation with God.”

#GodProvidesDaily
“The images of a torch and a smoking pot or a cooking pot. So here's what these probably would look like. These are powerful symbols of God's provision, particularly his provision that he gave his people Israel in the wilderness. The torch represents the pillar of fire that walked before them for forty years. The presence of God outside the camp leading them to the promised land. And the cooking pot was a pot that people would use to bake bread while they were living in tents and on the move. What do the people of God subsist on when they're in the desert? Manna, bread from heaven. God brings manna. It covers the ground every day. They take it and cook it. And God is showing in his promise to Abraham that he's gonna go before him and he's gonna light the way and he's gonna provide the food that he needs every day to get there.”

#AncientCovenantRitual
“He takes a cow, a goat, a sheep, a ram, a male sheep, and some birds, and he splits them in half and creates an aisle between the pieces. Now that sounds gross, doesn't it? It seems weird. It seems different. What's going on here? Well, if you would make a covenant with somebody in Abram's time, you would create a aisle with blood between split animals. And you make your promises to one another by walking down that aisle declaring that if either one of you broke the covenant, what happened to the animals would happen to you. Talk about playing for keeps. Right?”

#PromiseAndProphecy
“Like, I've skipped this part of this story for years. I've preached on this before. I've never preached on this part. And the Lord just showed me what he was doing here. I just feel like we need to, camp out here for just a minute. God is creating this covenant. And as he's about to do it, guess what he does? He goes, Abraham, we're gonna be united. You're gonna get the land. You're gonna be blessed. Abraham, you're gonna die in old of old age, and you're gonna not have to go through any of this suffering. you need to be aware of something that's gonna happen. Your family will inherit this land, but they're gonna spend four hundred years in slavery in Egypt before they get there.”

#NoBackupFaith
“This is how I want you to respond today. Listen, there's some of us who are Christians in this room, but we've lost our loyalties. They're starting to get weak or thin. The question I have for you is how are you doing with your loyalty to God? Is it wholeheartedly his? Because that's where your faith lies, in the person of Jesus Christ. Being fully loyal to the person of Jesus. All your eggs are in his basket. You have no backup plan. It's it.”

#GodIsYourShield
“Can you imagine God showing up to you and God saying, I will be your shield. I will shield you from evil, from destruction, from darkness. I have your back, and you're gonna have a great reward. think all of us will be like, alright. Well, I've I've got it made. I guess this is this is this is the the goal. Right? I have God for you. This is what God promises Abram. Now, two things I want you to just kinda see here. First of all, the context of this. Because what you find happening is that God only shows up to Abram, says this to him, after some events. This was in verse one. It says after these events, God comes and says this to Abram. Now, what events happened that would precipitate this?”
31s
#GodMovesWhileYouRest
“God tells him that he's gonna give him the land. And as Abraham is waiting to walk the aisle with God. He's like, alright, gearing myself up. God's gonna show up. We're gonna walk the aisle. God makes him rest, makes him sleepy. And as he's waiting on God to walk the aisle, he sees two images appear and walk the aisle without him.”

#FaithReachesAndHeals
“New Testament version of this is the time Jesus is walking through a large crowd. There are people everywhere. And all of a sudden, as he's walking through this crowd, you know the kind of crowds, like, when a football game lets out and you're just, like, walking with people and you're just, like, claustrophobic. It's a crowd like that. Jesus is walking out, and all of sudden, he's like, somebody touched me. And the disciples like, everybody touched you. Like, there's everybody, people all around you. He's like, no, no. I felt power leave me. And a lady comes forth and she says it was me. She had an issue of blood. Nobody could heal her, but she reached out and touched the hem of his garment. There's a tassel that Jesus is a rabbi would wear. He had four tassels as part of his prayer garments. And she reached out and just grabbed a hold of one of them. The reason why she did that is not because she was like, I can barely reach out and get them. The reason she reached out and touched them on the tassel is because there was a promise of a Messianic king that could heal and says there's healing in his wings or in his tassels. And she makes a claim of loyalty that Jesus is the Messiah and the King of the Jews and that faith heals her like this.”

#ChooseLoyaltyToJesus
“I also invite you if you've never trusted Jesus Christ in what we just talked about just made sense at a different level. The fact that Jesus paid the price for the things that you've broken so that you can give you a new life and a hope. So the same promise where God says I'll be your shield. You have a great reward that applies to you if you trust Jesus Christ. And all comes down to loyalty. What are gonna be loyal to? Yourself? Your nation? Your people? Success? Your renown? Or will you be loyal to Jesus first and foremost all the days of your life?”
