Genuine faith, even if it seems small or insignificant, has the power to move what appears unmovable when placed in the hands of our extraordinary God. Jesus teaches that it is not the size of our faith that matters, but its authenticity and the One in whom we trust. Like the disciples, we may sometimes struggle with doubt or rely on our own abilities, but Jesus reminds us that faith as small as a mustard seed can accomplish the impossible when rooted in Him. [40:45]
Matthew 17:17-20 (ESV)
And Jesus answered, “O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.” And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was healed instantly. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
Reflection: Where in your life do you feel your faith is too small to make a difference? What is one step you can take today to trust God with that area, believing He can move mountains through your genuine faith?
Faith is not about having all the answers or seeing the outcome, but about having confidence in what we hope for and assurance in what we do not see. The heroes of the faith were commended not for their perfection, but for trusting God’s promises even when they could not see the results. You are invited to trust God’s faithfulness, knowing that He honors even the smallest steps of faith taken in obedience to His call. [41:45]
Hebrews 11:1-2 (ESV)
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation.
Reflection: What is one promise of God you struggle to believe because you cannot see the outcome? How can you choose to trust Him with that promise today?
God delights in the small beginnings and the first steps of faith, not in perfection or grand gestures. Every act of obedience, no matter how insignificant it may seem, is celebrated by God and can grow into something far greater than you imagine. Rather than waiting for the perfect moment or feeling fully prepared, take the step God is calling you to, trusting that He will bring the growth. [46:16]
Zechariah 4:10 (ESV)
For whoever has despised the day of small things shall rejoice, and shall see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. “These seven are the eyes of the Lord, which range through the whole earth.”
Reflection: What small step of faith or obedience have you been hesitant to take? How can you begin today, trusting that God celebrates your start?
Faith is not meant to remain theoretical or passive; it must be put into action and continually fueled by the Word of God. Just as a fire needs wood to keep burning, your faith needs the nourishment of Scripture and the exercise of obedience. When faith is accompanied by action, it becomes alive and powerful, but without action, it withers and dies. [47:29]
James 2:14-17 (ESV)
What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
Reflection: What is one specific way you can put your faith into action today, especially in an area where you have been hesitant or comfortable?
When you live out genuine faith, it becomes contagious and multiplies, impacting the lives of those around you. Just as one candle can light another without losing its flame, your faith can inspire and encourage others to trust God. By sharing your story, living boldly, and fueling your faith daily, you become a model for others, and God’s message spreads far beyond what you could imagine. [59:12]
1 Thessalonians 1:5-8 (ESV)
Because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything.
Reflection: Who in your life needs to see or hear about your genuine faith? What is one way you can share your faith story or encourage someone else’s faith journey this week?
God’s plan for us has always been multiplication, not mere survival. From the very beginning, God called His people to be fruitful and multiply, to spread His goodness and His message throughout the world. This multiplication starts with faith—genuine, active faith that trusts in an extraordinary God, even when we feel ordinary or inadequate. Every person places faith in something, whether it’s a chair, a car, or a pilot. The real question is not whether we have faith, but where we place it and whether it is authentic.
Jesus teaches that even faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains. The power of faith is not in its size, but in the One in whom it is placed. The disciples struggled to cast out a demon because their faith faltered, perhaps because they began to trust in their own abilities rather than in God’s power. We are reminded not to despise small beginnings; God delights in the first steps of faith, not in perfection. Like a seed, faith must be planted and put into action—faith without works is dead. It’s not enough to prepare and pray if we remain tied to the dock of comfort, fear, or control. True faith requires us to untie the boat and step out, trusting God with the outcome.
But faith must be fueled. Just as a fire needs wood and plants need water, our faith needs the nourishment of God’s Word. If we neglect the Word, our faith will dry up. The Word of God is unshakable, anchoring us when feelings and circumstances shift. We are called to meditate on Scripture daily, not just to read it, but to let it shape our actions and our lives.
When faith is genuine and fueled by the Word, it becomes contagious. Others see it, are inspired by it, and are drawn to Christ. Like a candle lighting another, our faith can multiply, brightening the world around us. We don’t need giant faith in a small God; we need small, genuine faith in a giant God. Plant your mustard seed of faith, trust God with it, and watch Him do more than you could ever imagine.
Matthew 17:17-20 (ESV) — > And Jesus answered, “O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.” And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was healed instantly. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
James 2:14-17 (ESV) — > What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
Psalm 1:2-3 (ESV) — > But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
Too often we have half-hearted kind of faith. We have the faith enough to sit on the sidelines and cheer other people on, but I'm not sure we have enough faith to hop in the wheelbarrow. So often we have enough faith to believe that God can do, but we don't trust that he will do in our own situation. [00:40:15] (25 seconds) #StepIntoFaith
So often we think that our faith has to be huge. It has to be bold. It has to be dramatic to count. But Jesus here says, no, it doesn't have to be big. Even the smallest amount of faith can move what seems unmovable, can move mountains. [00:42:01] (18 seconds) #SmallFaithBigImpact
But here's the thing about seeds. When we plant seeds, they don't just grow in theory. They only grow when they are planted. This is why we have to put our faith into action. It's one thing to say, I trust God. It's another thing to actually take steps of obedience towards him and the direction he's calling us. [00:46:49] (22 seconds) #FaithNeedsWorks
You don't just eat one meal and expect to live off that meal the rest of the week. Why would we expect a few verses on Sunday morning to fuel us, give us the fuel we need for the rest of the week? We need the word of God every day. [00:55:26] (18 seconds) #ContagiousFaith
We've got to commit to a daily intake of the scripture, but not just reading it, but meditating on it, believing on it, and then putting it into action. And when our faith is fueled by the word of God, and when we're planted in action, and we're seeing our faith grow like a seed, that's when it begins to multiply into other people's lives. Because genuine faith is contagious. No question. Genuine faith is contagious. [00:57:25] (33 seconds) #SmallFaithGiantGod
Genuine faith is contagious. When you share your story with others, it gives them the courage to believe. When you allow God to use you, you watch God move in other people's lives. When you choose to allow your faith to impact others. When you have true, genuine faith, it's contagious. [00:59:20] (30 seconds)
The world needs to hear it and you don't have to be a person of giant faith. All you need is genuine faith. Jesus said, faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains. [01:01:30] (18 seconds)
