Faith in Action: Lessons from Gideon's Journey
Summary
In the sermon, I discussed the story of Gideon and how his faith journey can be a lesson for us all. I highlighted how Gideon, despite his doubts and fears, was able to become a leader and bring many people to know God. I emphasized that it was Gideon's willingness to listen to God and obey Him that led to this transformation. I also shared the exciting news that Dylan and Amberley, who had come to interview for the Youth pastor's position, have accepted our offer. This is an answer to our prayers and we look forward to welcoming them to our community.
In the second part of the sermon, I delved deeper into the concept of faith and how it can guide us through hardships and struggles. I stressed that it is the Holy Spirit that will affirm us, speak to us, and lead us through these challenges. I also touched on the importance of having a seeking heart and a desire to increase our faith. I ended the sermon with a prayer, asking God to eradicate all doubt, give us faith, and help us fulfill all that He knows we can be.

Devotional
Day 1: Seeking Faith and Direction
In times of doubt and uncertainty, it is natural to feel lost and confused. However, it is in these moments that we should turn to God for guidance and affirmation. God's word provides us with the direction we need to navigate through life's challenges.
Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
Reflection: Reflect on a recent time when you faced doubt or uncertainty. Did you actively seek God's guidance and affirmation during this time? If not, how can you incorporate seeking God's direction in future situations of doubt?
Day 2: The Power of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is a powerful force in our lives, guiding us, affirming us, and empowering us to live out our faith. When we open ourselves up to the Holy Spirit, we can experience a deeper connection with God and a stronger faith.
Acts 1:8 - "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
Reflection: Can you recall a time when you felt the Holy Spirit guiding or affirming you? How did that experience impact your faith and your understanding of the Holy Spirit's role in your life?
Day 3: Relinquishing Control to God
Relinquishing control can be a difficult task, especially when we are faced with challenges and uncertainties. However, when we trust in God and submit to His will, we can experience peace and assurance.
Proverbs 19:21 - "Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails."
Reflection: Think about a situation where you struggled to relinquish control. How might trusting in God and submitting to His will have changed the outcome? Moving forward, how can you practice relinquishing control to God in your daily life?
Day 4: The Importance of Conviction and Transformation
Conviction and transformation are key aspects of our faith journey. When we experience a significant transformation in our faith, it not only impacts us but also those around us.
Romans 12:2 - "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."
Reflection: Reflect on a significant transformation in your faith journey. How did this transformation impact those around you? How can you continue to foster conviction and transformation in your faith journey?
Day 5: Pursuing Purpose Over People
As followers of Christ, we are called to pursue God's purpose for our lives, even if it means going against the expectations of others. When we prioritize God's purpose, we can experience true fulfillment and joy.
Galatians 1:10 - "Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ."
Reflection: Consider a time when you felt led by the Spirit to pursue a specific purpose. How did this pursuit impact your relationships with others? How can you continue to prioritize God's purpose for your life over the expectations of others?
Quotes
1. "What we see here is Gideon has a seeking heart with a desire to increase his faith. Do you need Faith this morning? Do you need a special portion of faith for the situation that you may find yourself in? It is the spirit that will affirm you, that is the spirit that will speak to you, it is the spirit that so desires to lead you through the hardships, through the struggles, through the Brokenness, through the challenges, through the tests." - 01:15:21
2. "I see a deep desire in humanity in the west to find a set of unified moral and ethical standards outside the parentheses of Faith or of God due to the ones observed suffering. So the suffering that we're feeling, if we as Humanity are suffering then there can't be a loving God that is real or that is working, can they?" - 42:43
3. "It was Gideon's willingness to listen to God and Obey him that created this leadership transformation in him that put him in a place of influence that would lead him to bring so many people to know God. Have you ever sat with God and asked him about the potential that you may have, the potential that you have to lead people into freedom?" - 01:04:02
4. "We need to let God fight his battles, we need to let him have his way in US. He can stand up for himself, we just get to be a part of the process, we just get to watch on the sidelines with amazement." - 01:00:51
5. "I truly believe that we need to blow some trumpets in the church today, that the church needs to awake, that we need to live into the freedom and recognizing the freedom that God hasn't just got for us but for everybody else because our faith is not our own and to hold it for ourself is so selfish." - 01:02:05
