but now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law although the law and the prophets bear witness to it the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe for there is no distinction for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and are justified by his grace as a gift through the Redemption that is in Christ Jesus [00:23:38]

Luther himself had become buried if you like underneath so much of that which he had begun to hold dear and it was some years before he came to an understanding of the gospel for himself you will recall that he went on a spiritual quest to Rome in order that he might try as best he could to relieve his burdens to answer his anxieties and to discover in his own terminology what would need to be done by an individual and to have done enough to Merit the grace of God [05:03:19]

he discovered that a right standing with God was not something that he was called upon to produce but rather it was something that God in his grace had provided that it was not something to be earned as a result of his Endeavors but that it was to be received as a gift of God's grace and of course what happened was God lit a flame in his heart [06:11:46]

how does a sinner get right with God how is it possible for someone who is sinful in the sight of a holy God to be reconciled to God and Luther in that Quest and in that search was of course helped by his Bible and helped in particular by the work of another man who like him was a religious man this man of course was Saul of Tarsus [07:04:28]

he believed that if he was dutiful in keeping the law and if he tried as best as he could throughout his years to improve his character then he would be accepted in God's sight Saul of Tarsus did not accept who Jesus was nor had he the remotest interest in what Jesus had done he did not understand that Jesus died upon the cross in order that Sinners would not need then to face death [07:44:84]

Paul now is right into the church at Rome concerning his great excitement at the gospel of God a gospel to which he has been set apart a gospel which he says he is eager to Proclaim as wildly as he can not least of all in Rome and a gospel which he says he is completely unashamed of and in that opening chapter he tells us why he says I'm not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes [10:08:39]

he has made absolutely clear the gravity of The Human Condition the gravity of The Human Condition and he has made it perfectly clear that men and women are in the predicament in which they find themselves because they suppress the truth because they Embrace substitute gods and because the exchange the truth of God for a lie [11:33:00]

it is all about faith in the ESV the Bible I'm reading here it actually has a heading the righteousness of God through faith and he says it again and again verse 22 the righteousness of God through faith down in verse 25 this propitiation to be received by faith and then down in verse 26 that God is just in the justifier of the one who is Faith In Jesus [15:57:30]

justification according to the Westminster Confession is an act of God's free Grace wherein he pardons all our sins accepts Us in righteous in his sight only for the righteousness imputed to us and received through faith alone so in other words God does for us in Jesus what we are completely unable to do for ourselves [22:18:74]

the predicament that we have identified of humanity is that we are under sins power and we are under God's Wrath we are alienated from God on two fronts on our front by our Rebellion against him on God's front by his settled reaction to sin namely his Wrath and to propitiate means to set absorb set away the wrath of God endure the wrath of God [31:25:20]

the challenge that we face and I look particularly at least find young faces I used to be your age about a hundred years ago I look at you and I say to you because they asked me all the time what is going on in the contemporary church what is happening in evangelicalism and so on what future do we have you are the future under God why you need to be absolutely convinced of the truth power and relevance of this gospel message [34:55:38]

the purpose of their engagement in going out into the world was to proclaim the gospel of God's grace the article says the purpose now in so many instances is to battle the ills of poverty to stretch their own spirituality 82 percent of short-term missions today go to countries in the most Christian third of the world only two percent land in the Middle East and what are they doing well they're doing good things well they're drilling Wells they're concerned about social justice they're concerned about racial equity understandable but it's not the gospel [38:39:33]
