We often approach God like a quarterback stiff-arming a defender—guarded, defensive, keeping Him at arm’s length. But faith begins when we drop the Heisman Trophy posture and say, “I don’t know what You have for me, but I’m listening.” Surrender isn’t weakness; it’s trusting the One who carved victory from a cross. What giants shrink when we stop negotiating with God and simply open our hands? [00:24]
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
(Proverbs 3:5-6, ESV)
Reflection: Where have you been spiritually “stiff-arming” God instead of leaning into His plans? What scares you about releasing control of that area today?
David didn’t wait for a committee or a sign. He grabbed five stones and ran toward the giant. Faith isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about taking the next obedient step with what’s in your hand. Your courage doesn’t need to be loud; it just needs to move. When you act, others find strength to charge their own battlefields. [16:57]
“As Goliath moved closer to attack, David quickly ran out to meet him. Reaching into his shepherd’s bag and taking out a stone, he hurled it with his sling and hit the Philistine in the forehead. The stone sank in, and Goliath stumbled and fell face down on the ground.”
(1 Samuel 17:48-49, NLT)
Reflection: What “giant” have you been analyzing instead of engaging? What’s one practical step you can take this week to move toward it?
Spiritual maturity turns our prayers inside out. No longer just “God, give me,” but “God, make me.” Like a child who grows from demanding chicken nuggets to clearing the dinner table, faith learns to ask, “What can I do for Your glory?” It’s the difference between faith that consumes and faith that ignites. [07:17]
“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
(1 Corinthians 10:31, ESV)
Reflection: When did your faith last shift from self-focused requests to God-centered surrender? What area of your life still feels stuck in the “bless me” phase?
God told Habakkuk to etch the vision onto tablets—not in sand, where doubt could erase it. Our “next steps” with God aren’t meant to stay nebulous. Write it down: the promise, the call, the hard obedience. Ink crystallizes faith, turning abstract nudges into battle plans. What future will your words today authorize? [35:40]
“Then the LORD answered me and said: ‘Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.’”
(Habakkuk 2:2-3, ESV)
Reflection: What specific step has God highlighted for you recently that you’ve hesitated to solidify? What happens if you write it down today?
Eighty-five-year-olds regret playing it safe. David’s stone didn’t just drop Goliath—it unleashed a chain reaction of courage. Faith isn’t a solo act; it’s a spark that lights bonfires in others. What bold move have you postponed because you’re measuring cost instead of legacy? Giants fall when we stop counting risks and start counting generations. [25:24]
“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”
(Ephesians 5:15-17, ESV)
Reflection: What faith-fueled risk have you avoided that could inspire others if you embraced it? How might your courage today echo in someone else’s tomorrow?
God meets sinners right where they are and does not come angry but “mad about” them, ready to save and to lead them if they will listen. The gospel declares that Jesus, crucified, buried, and risen on the third day, restores the unrighteous to the Father not by religion but by himself. John says that those who believe and receive Christ become God’s children, so salvation rests on Jesus alone and invites a response of faith.
The life of faith then grows up. Newborn faith starts with mine and I want, like a child who only knows hunger and comfort. But the text presses a maturing shift toward your glory, where 1 Corinthians 10 language reorients even eating and drinking to God’s fame. As prayer changes from bless me to what can I do for you, the heart begins to live Romans 1:17. The righteous do not simply know about faith; they live by faith. Proverbs 3 pushes trust from the bottom of the heart, refusing to be driven by funky feelings, and leaning into what the Lord says.
David’s story pictures this maturing faith. Goliath stands between God’s kids and what God has for them. David has a Popeye moment, enough is enough. He does not wait for a fresh word; he reaches for a fresh memory, flipping open the praise journal and saying, the lion and the bear, oh my, God showed up. Testimony becomes trajectory. He runs, slings, strikes, and then finishes the giant with the giant’s own sword. The enemy scatters. More, a nation’s courage lights up. One obedient life ignites movement in many others. Husbands, wives, singles, teenagers, legacy adults, that kind of faith blesses families, futures, and a whole church.
Ephesians 5 calls this redeeming the time. The regrets of the 95-year-old echo it: reflect more, risk more, do more that matters after death. Habakkuk hears God say, I am doing something in your own day. So the prophet stands his watch, listens for what the Lord will say, and then writes the vision. The call is simple and specific: write down the next step and act. For some it is baptism. For others it is serving, giving, or stepping onto a battlefield where fear once ruled. Enough is enough. Greater is he that is in the believer. One step of faith can ignite breakthrough, courage, and movement in everyone around.
It's salvation. You do not have peace in your heart when it comes to your relationship with God. There's so much going on up here. You're letting everybody fill your mind with all kinds of junk about God, but I want you to hear what the Bible says. God loves you. God wants a relationship with you, but you don't know what I've done. You don't know where I am. You don't know where I stand. I don't care. Jesus died so that your sins could be forgiven. You can have a clean heart, a brand new start, and you can start aligning your life step by step with the word of God. But he's not mad at you. He wants to save you today.

I am the way, the truth, and the life. You want a redeemed, restored relationship with the father? You wanna get to heaven? It is only by me. Why? Because I have the authority because I was crucified, buried, and according to Romans chapter one, make no mistake about it, I am the risen son of God. Come on somebody. That's what the bible teaches us. And so as righteous people realizing that I'm not I'm my relationship isn't restored back to the father because of who I am, but because of whose I am. Because of Jesus. Somebody say Jesus. Jesus. And so now I commit my life to a maturing faith.

He had a story. He opened up his prayer praise journal and said, oh, I remember on this day a lion came out. God showed up. I remember this day, a bear showed up, and then God showed up. I remember this day, God showed up. God showed up. God showed up. Don't tell me what God can't do. This is wrong. This giant has no permission to be here. He has no authority here. And David said to all of Israel, the only permission and authority that he has to be here is a permission and authority that you're giving him.

Oh, he had words from God. He had experienced the power of God. And he also knew that these giants were standing in a way. He didn't need a fresh word from God because he knew that was wrong. And two things happened that day. Number one, as we already saw, a giant fell. And all the enemy, man, they ran away. But the thing that inspires me and I wanna encourage us with today is this, not only did the enemy fall and the enemy the rest of the enemy run away, but an entire nation's courage was ignited.

Is there not a cause? I will not be paralyzed by fear because greater is he that is in me than that giant that stands before me. And I'm not gonna pray him away. I'm not gonna wish him away. I'm gonna roll up my sleeves and I'm gonna step on a battlefield because you know what? I serve a God, listen, unto him that is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that I can ask or think according to the power. Somebody say power. Power. That works in and through me. Can we thank God for his power? Amen? So we come to the attitude of David, and the attitude of David was this, what can I do for you?

It says this, don't act thoughtlessly or in other words, live on purpose. Because you've been saved on purpose for a purpose because God's got a great purpose for you. Amen? He really does. I don't care what your where your relationship is with God right now, God's got plans for your life. So don't act thoughtlessly, but understand, oh, this is so good. What the Lord wants you to know. What the Lord wants you to do. Because we've been saved on purpose for a purpose, not saved to sit, saved to serve.

You can't have my family. You can't have my forever family. You have no authority. You have no permission. You have no right. And as David said, I will not allow this. So my encouragement is to keep on keeping on. My encouragement is, don't be paralyzed by fear. You say, but I does God have a word for me? He's got a lot of words for you. I will never leave you. I will never forsake you. He's got words for you. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. He's got words for you. When you were created anew in Christ Jesus, he gave you the Holy Spirit so that you can do the things that he's planned for you to do a long time ago.

there's always these enemies, this giant that is always standing between us and what God has for us. For some of you, it's salvation. Question. Question. Question. Question. Well, if God is this, well, if God is that, or if I read this, well, what about this and what about that? Oh, there's a whole other side of that. Study the word of God. Study history. You're smarter than letting the world tell you what to believe. Amen? I'm just telling you. And so we have these these Goliaths, these giants. And we know in the story of David and Goliath, here's Goliath, the giant standing between where God's kids were and what God had for his kids.
