The Israelite army froze when Goliath roared. For forty days, the nine-foot warrior mocked them, his bronze armor glinting in the sun. Saul’s soldiers whispered excuses but never raised a sword. Fear shouted louder than faith. Their sandals might as well have been glued to the dirt. [14:57]
Goliath’s taunts weren’t just noise—they were spiritual warfare. The enemy still uses loud lies to paralyze God’s people. Giants don’t win by strength alone; they win by making you forget who fights for you.
What giant has you stuck? Name the voice that says, “You can’t” or “What if?” Write it down. Then ask yourself: What truth about God makes this giant seem small?
“For forty days the Philistine came forward every morning and evening and took his stand.”
(1 Samuel 17:16, ESV)
Prayer: Ask God to unmask the lies holding you back.
Challenge: Write the name of your giant on a sticky note. Crumple it and throw it away.
David carried bread and cheese to his brothers, not a sword. He heard Goliath’s threats and asked, “Who does this guy think he is?” While others saw a problem, David saw a promise. He picked five stones, swung his sling, and trusted God to handle the rest. [14:19]
God uses ordinary steps to do extraordinary things. David’s lunch run became a faith rally. Your daily routine—work, errands, conversations—is where God wants to show His power. Don’t wait for a spotlight moment. Start where you are.
Where have you underestimated what God can do through your “ordinary”? What small step could you take today to trust Him more?
“Your servant has struck down both lions and bears, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them.”
(1 Samuel 17:36, ESV)
Prayer: Thank God for the tools He’s already given you.
Challenge: Share a story of God’s faithfulness with one person today.
Goliath yelled, “You’re weak!” God whispered, “My strength is perfect.” The enemy’s lies sound personal: “Failure,” “Not enough,” “Too broken.” But Jesus’ scars shout louder: “Forgiven,” “Chosen,” “Never alone.” [17:31]
Every giant’s taunt tries to drown out God’s truth. Romans 8:1 silences condemnation. Philippians 4:13 crushes inadequacy. When lies attack, hold up Scripture like a shield.
Which lie have you believed lately? What Bible verse slams the door on that lie?
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
(Romans 8:1, ESV)
Prayer: Confess one lie you’ve believed. Ask God to replace it with His Word.
Challenge: Text a friend the verse that defeats your giant.
A family gave sacrificially to launch a new campus because they trusted God’s mission. Like David facing Goliath, they didn’t calculate the odds—they celebrated God’s track record. Their gift declared, “We’re all-in on what You can do.” [06:59]
God doesn’t need your money, but He wants your trust. Giving isn’t about budgets; it’s about breaking the giant of control. When you release what you’re gripping, God fills your hands with purpose.
What are you clinging to that God might be asking you to surrender?
“Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce.”
(Proverbs 3:9, ESV)
Prayer: Give God one financial worry. Ask Him to replace fear with faith.
Challenge: Donate $5 (or more) to someone in need today.
David’s victory made Israel cheer, but it pointed everyone to God. Philippians 1:11 says our lives should produce “fruit” that makes others taste God’s goodness. Not quiet piety—loud, juicy love that drips into broken places. [23:43]
Your faith isn’t a private trophy. It’s a spotlight on Jesus. Every act of kindness, every forgiven hurt, every bold “I trust You” shouts down giants and lifts up Christ.
What fruit is God growing in you this week? How could it encourage someone else?
“Filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.”
(Philippians 1:11, ESV)
Prayer: Ask God to make your life a billboard for His glory.
Challenge: Serve someone practically today—mow a lawn, buy groceries, or send an encouraging text.
Granite United calls the congregation to move from cautious faith to bold, obedient trust in God. The text centers on Proverbs 3:5–6 and the story of David and Goliath to show how fear and taunts can freeze God’s people, even when God has already given the victory. The message lays out common “giants” — past failure, inadequacy, disappointment, condemnation, control, stagnation, and feelings of abandonment — and names how those voices aim to divert people from their God-given purpose. Scripture anchors each diagnosis: God’s grace is sufficient in weakness, no condemnation exists for those in Christ, and greater is He who is in believers than the giants that shout.
Living faith looks like more than private devotion; it produces visible fruit that draws glory to God. The life God offers is abundant and purposeful, meant to be lived outwardly so others see Christ and give God praise. Practical next steps include trusting God “from the bottom of the heart,” taking the next step even when outcomes aren’t certain, responding to Jesus personally for salvation, and publicly declaring faith through baptism as a sign of inward change. The community aspect receives attention: a testimony of sacrificial giving for a new campus models how collective faith can expand mission and create new opportunities for service.
The invitation to respond appears as both urgent and hopeful. Repentance and personal surrender to Christ become the hinge between living under a giant’s voice and walking in kingdom purpose. The sermon emphasizes that God equips believers with the Holy Spirit, promises, family, and resources; the choice is to use those deposits rather than let them sit idle. The overall aim remains clear: trust God, step forward in obedient faith, and let the resulting fruit bring glory to God as the community advances together.
I can hear God's word, but God doesn't want me just to be a hearer. He wants me to be a doer of the word as well. So he wants me not just to hear listen to him. He he wants me to, he wants me not just to hear him. He wants me to listen to him and be a doer of the word of God. Listen for God's voice in everything you do. Everywhere you go, next three words, he's the one. I don't know how that's gonna work out. Good. Not your problem. That's above your pay grade.

Because, read this with me, greater is he who is in you than those stupid giants that are in your head. He's not only the giant slayer, he's the giant slayer who lives inside of you. And he's giving you access. He's giving you power. He's given you promises. He's given you family. He's given you so many resources, and God's like, come on, man. You got this because I got you. We gotta slay those giants' voices because they're liars, and they're trying to keep us out of what God's called us to next, the more, the next.

Granite, what's the giant that's getting in the way? He got a big mouth. I know you love Jesus. I know we're all trying to grow and trusting God from the bottom of our heart. It's all part of the process. Just because you're hey. You're gonna slay this giant, and there's another one behind that one, another one behind that one. It's okay. It's life. But greater is he that is in you. Don't tell me what God can't do. You know what God can do. Don't let that giant keep you from what's next.

But know this, in a minute, I'm gonna pray a prayer. I'm gonna ask some of you to pray with me. Prayer is not what gets you into heaven. The prayer is just a conversation with God. The prayer leads us to a person. That person is Jesus Christ. Not a magical prayer. It's a, hey, Lord. I hear you. I see you. I'm crossing this line to come towards you, and I'm turning my life over to you to follow you. This is salvation, not a prayer, a person. Jesus.

The last thing the enemy wants is for you to take that step to become who God wants you to become and continue growing because people are gonna say, man, you really do love the Lord. You're serious about this Jesus guy. Yeah. He kinda changed my life. That is not what the enemy wants. So what does he try to do? He tries to win the fight before any punch is thrown. He got a big mouth. How many know somebody who has got a big mouth and you're sitting next to them? Amen. Yeah. Amen.

But what the enemy and the giants in our lives are trying to do, they are trying to get us from advancing the mission and purpose and calling of God in our lives. I need you to do me a favor. On a count of three, I need you to look at somebody next to you, point a finger at them, and I need you to remind them of something. There's kingdom greatness inside of you. Ready? One, two, three. Tell them. There's kingdom greatness inside of you. And this is what the enemy is trying to keep from coming out.

I wanna be at the point where I can just trust you. God, if you say, hey, man. If you're saved, get baptized. I don't need to pray about that. I'm gonna be obedient because you know what? You're the authority. I trust you. God, I trust you in the area of my finances. I trust you in the area of my marriage, my parenting, my grandparenting. God, I trust you in the area of my career. Somebody say amen. Amen. And so we're wrestling with this. We're just stretching. We're just growing because we trust god.

We there's just gonna be times in our lives where we face things bigger than us. We're like, oh, that kinda takes my breath away. That makes my heart go a little bit quicker. And then you come to this intersection. Okay. I've really gotta let go. I've really gotta let go and let and let god be god because there is a god and it isn't you. Amen? And so it says trust God from the bottom of your heart. Stop trying to figure out everything on your own.
