No matter how deep our guilt or how dark our past, God’s love remains steadfast and unwavering. Like Joseph’s brothers, we may fear that our failures and sins have separated us from God, but His heart is always open to us. He does not wait for us to clean ourselves up or prove our worthiness; instead, He meets us in our brokenness and invites us to draw near. Even when we feel unworthy or assume God is angry with us, His love is not based on our performance but on His grace. You do not have to be afraid—God’s love covers you right where you are. [37:40]
Romans 5:8 (ESV)
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Reflection: Is there a place in your life where you feel unworthy of God’s love? Take a moment today to bring that area honestly before Him and ask Him to help you believe that He loves you even there.
God’s invitation is always to come near, no matter how heavy our burdens or how distant we feel. Just as Joseph called his fearful brothers to come close, God calls each of us to approach Him with our weariness, our shame, and our doubts. He longs for relationship, not distance. When we respond to His invitation, we find rest and acceptance, not condemnation. You do not have to hide or run; God’s arms are open, and He wants you to experience the peace that comes from being close to Him. [41:29]
Matthew 11:28 (ESV)
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Reflection: What is one burden or fear that keeps you from drawing close to God? What would it look like to bring that honestly to Him in prayer today?
Even in seasons of hardship, betrayal, or confusion, God is at work for your good and His greater purpose. Joseph’s life was marked by suffering and injustice, yet he recognized that God was orchestrating every detail for a redemptive purpose. Instead of growing bitter or turning away, Joseph trusted God’s hand in every circumstance. You may not understand why certain things have happened, but God’s favor is not absent in your trials. He is able to use even the most painful chapters of your story for His glory and your blessing. [42:09]
Genesis 45:5-8 (ESV)
“And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. So it was not you who sent me here, but God. He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt.”
Reflection: Think of a difficult season in your life—how might God have been working behind the scenes for your good, even if you couldn’t see it at the time?
God’s grace is not something we earn or deserve; it is a gift freely given through Jesus. Like Joseph, who did not demand repayment or penance from his brothers, God does not require us to jump through hoops to receive His mercy. No sin is too great, no past too broken for the blood of Christ to cover. You are invited to simply receive, believe, and rest in the truth that you are fully forgiven and accepted. Take the pressure off—God’s grace is unconditional, and you are completely covered in Christ. [51:59]
John 3:16 (ESV)
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Reflection: Is there something in your past that you feel is unforgivable? Ask God to help you accept His unconditional grace and let go of the need to earn His forgiveness.
Just as Joseph trusted his brothers to share the good news with their father, Jesus entrusts us to share the story of His grace and redemption with others. You do not need to be a theologian or have all the answers; you simply need to tell what Christ has done for you. God’s favor and forgiveness are not meant to be kept to ourselves—they are gifts to be shared so that others may also experience His love. Step out in faith and let your life and words point others to the hope you have found in Jesus. [54:57]
Matthew 28:19-20 (ESV)
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Reflection: Who is one person in your life who needs to hear about the hope and forgiveness you have found in Christ? How can you share your story with them this week?
The story of Joseph and his brothers in Genesis 45 is a powerful reminder of how God’s grace and purpose can transform even the most broken relationships and the darkest moments of our lives. Joseph, once betrayed and sold into slavery by his own brothers, now stands as the second most powerful man in Egypt. When his brothers come to him desperate for food, they have no idea that the man before them is the very brother they wronged so many years ago. Joseph, overwhelmed with emotion, reveals himself to them—not with anger or vengeance, but with tears and compassion.
This moment is a vivid picture of how sin and guilt can fill us with fear and shame. The brothers are terrified, expecting judgment and retribution. Yet, Joseph’s response is not to expose or punish, but to draw them near. He weeps over the years of separation, just as we often weep when we realize the depth of God’s mercy toward us despite our failures. God’s love is not conditional on our performance or our past; He loves us even in our sin, and He calls us to come close, to rest in His grace.
Joseph recognizes that all the pain and injustice he endured was not wasted. He sees God’s hand at work, using even the evil intentions of others to bring about a greater good—to preserve life and fulfill His promises. Joseph never allowed bitterness or resentment to take root in his heart, neither toward God nor his brothers. Instead, he extends unconditional forgiveness and grace, just as God does for us in Christ. There are no hoops to jump through, no debts to repay—just an invitation to receive what has already been provided.
Joseph entrusts his brothers with the task of sharing his story and bringing their father to Egypt, offering them not only forgiveness but also provision and a new future. In the same way, Christ entrusts us to share the story of His grace and redemption with others. Forgiveness opens the door to restored fellowship, both with God and with one another. Ultimately, this story points us to the glorious homecoming that awaits all who are forgiven and made new in Christ—a day when faith becomes sight and we are welcomed into the fullness of God’s love.
You need to recognize this morning. If you are struggling with sin, struggling with guilt in your life, if you're hurting over some shortcoming in your life, you need to know God loves you anyway. He loves you still. He loves you in spite of where you sit today. He loves you. You don't have to be afraid. I've seen billboards in the last several years in my travels out on the highway. You'll find every now and then I'll see a billboard that some organization has put up and it says, God is not mad at you. [00:36:31] (55 seconds) #UnconditionalLove
That isn't it. He's paid the price for our sin. He's covered them all with His blood. And He loves us. even in the midst of our sin. Listen to Romans chapter 5. God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. And B, He desires us to come close. The brothers don't know what to do with this man who's obviously in charge. And they don't know what to do with his weeping. They don't know what any of this means. And Joseph says to his brothers, come close. [00:38:30] (55 seconds) #PurposeInPain
One that is clothed in his righteousness because then there's no judgment. There's no decision to be made. there's just Christ to usher me in to my eternal home. You don't have to be afraid today. These brothers didn't have to be afraid. Joseph was saying to them come close. It's me. It's Joseph. God wants us to come close to him. [00:40:34] (37 seconds) #NoBitterness
God calls you to come close. Joseph told his brothers to come close. And in verse 5 he says this, Now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here. for God sent me before you to preserve life. For the famine has been in the land these two years and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to keep alive for you many survivors. So it was not you who sent me here but God. [00:41:29] (45 seconds) #OpenYourHeart
``There isn't a single thing you could confess this morning that this blood of Christ won't cover. Nada. You're completely covered in Christ. It's unconditional. See, Joseph extends the same grace to his brother. He gave the same grace to his brothers. It was unconditional. He didn't give them a list of how go out there and do these things and then you can have some food. No. [00:51:59] (37 seconds)
And I want you to bring him down here. Let me provide for you. I've got it all. Listen, that's what God offers. Receive. Believe. Believe what God has done for you. Open your heart because God has the richness of his blessings waiting for you. He said, I will supply all your needs through my riches in Christ Jesus. It's all available. [00:53:58] (47 seconds)
You see, letter E. Christ has trusted us to share his story. It's put upon us to make sure people hear about God's favor and what he has done for us. You don't have to be a theologian. You don't have to know the Bible from the front cover to back. You just need to be able to tell someone what Christ has done for you. Speak of the change he has brought in your life. [00:54:45] (37 seconds)
Remember that happy ending I promised you? Verse 14 Then he fell upon his brother Benjamin's neck and wept. And Benjamin wept upon his neck and he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them. And after that his brothers talked with him. You see there is forgiveness. There is hugging and kissing followed by fellowship. You see forgiveness opens the door for us to be one with Christ. He gives the forgiveness so we can be one with him. He waits to welcome you. [00:55:44] (61 seconds)
I want you to know, I left sixth grade never knowing if Mrs. Miller believed, I forgave. It's a cute story, Steve. What's it got to do with me? Jesus keeps telling you you're forgiven. and some of you won't believe him. You won't just open your heart and say, yes, thank you. You keep beating yourself up because of a sin in your life. You keep beating yourself up feeling unworthy of God's love. Of course we're unworthy of God's love. But he gives it anyway. [01:03:28] (61 seconds)
You don't have to be afraid. You don't have to run. You don't have to reject. Just believe what he's telling you and be forgiven. Because the last point says, be a glorious homecoming awaits all who are saved. Joseph is hugging his brothers. He's kissing his brothers. He's telling them, go get dad. Let me tell you, in heaven there is a glorious homecoming waiting for all of us forgiven, waiting for all of us clothed in his righteousness, cleansed by his blood. [01:04:30] (47 seconds)
