Your occupation is more than just a way to earn a living; it's an opportunity to collaborate with God in His ongoing work of bringing flourishing to the world. Through your efforts, you contribute to the well-being of creation and the people within it. Embrace the significance of your daily tasks as a means of participating in God's redemptive purposes. [00:28]
1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 (ESV)
"...and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, so that you may conduct yourselves honorably before outsiders and be dependent on no one."
Reflection: In what specific ways can you view your current job responsibilities as a partnership with God's work in the world this week?
Your workplace is a place where you can shine the light of Christ into potentially dark situations. You have the unique opportunity to represent Jesus to those around you, offering a glimpse of His love and truth. Consider how your actions and attitudes can reflect His presence, making a difference in the environment where you spend so much of your time. [02:04]
Colossians 3:23 (ESV)
"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,"
Reflection: How can you intentionally bring a Christ-like attitude to one challenging interaction or task at work this week?
Recognize that your current position in your workplace is not by accident. God has placed you there for a specific season and purpose. Trust that you are exactly where He intends you to be, equipped and positioned to fulfill His plans. Embrace this season with the understanding that your presence matters and has divine significance. [01:35]
Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV)
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."
Reflection: What is one aspect of your current work situation that you can surrender to God's sovereign plan, trusting His purpose for you there?
When sharing your faith, aim to draw people in through genuine connection and integrity rather than forceful persuasion. Your life and work should create curiosity and openness, inviting conversations about what you believe. By living out your faith with love, integrity, and the fruit of the Spirit, you can naturally attract others to explore the hope you hold. [07:07]
1 Peter 3:15 (ESV)
"...but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you. Yet do this with gentleness and respect,"
Reflection: What is one way you can demonstrate gentleness and respect in a conversation about faith or values with a coworker this week?
As a follower of Jesus, you are a representative, a brand ambassador for Him. The way you live, work, and interact with others reflects on Him. Strive to embody the qualities of Christ, such as love, joy, peace, and patience, so that your life draws people to Him. Your transformed life is a powerful testament to the good news you carry. [20:49]
Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV)
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."
Reflection: Identify one area of the fruit of the Spirit where you sense God inviting you to grow this week, and consider a small, practical step you can take to cultivate it in your workplace interactions.
The talk frames ordinary work as a primary arena for kingdom partnership: every vocation is an opportunity to help creation and people flourish, to represent Jesus, and to participate in God’s ongoing work. It warns against two mistakes in workplace faith—being the pushy proselytizer who repels others, and hiding one's faith entirely—arguing that if the gospel truly is the “best news,” withholding it becomes unloving. The New Testament pattern offered is to create pull, not push: live a life that generates curiosity rather than coercion.
Paul’s counsel to the Thessalonians is central: make it an ambition to lead a quiet life, mind one’s own business, and work hard with one’s hands so outsiders respect the daily living of faith. Quality of work and consistency of character win trust and remove excuses people may have against Christianity. The call to work “as unto the Lord” reframes the workplace—integrity, diligence, and other-centeredness become tangible gospel witness, standing opposed to the cultural trends of demotivation or “quiet quitting.”
Peter’s instruction complements Paul: always be ready to give the reason for the hope that anchors life, but do so with gentleness, respect, and a clear conscience. Hope rooted in God, not circumstances, becomes particularly persuasive when tragedy, burnout, or meaninglessness expose the limits of worldly solutions. Practical tools follow: invite people with a “come and see” posture, share personal testimony as honest narrative rather than theological debate, and be prepared to say “I don’t know — let’s find out together.”
The overarching appeal is pastoral and practical: pursue a life that draws others—through work excellence, visible fruit of the Spirit, humility in disagreement, and bold gentleness in testimony—so that friends, coworkers, and neighbors might be pulled toward the God already at work around them. The hope is tangible: one day to look back and see real people drawn to Jesus because of how life was lived in ordinary places like the office, the shop, the field, or the school.
``Share your own story. I I love this. I I heard this quote this week, from a friend and I was like, this so perfectly fits with my message. I'm just gonna throw it in and so I I love this quote. It's from RC Sproul. He says this, we are not righteous people trying to correct the unrighteous. That's not what Christians are. We're not righteous people trying to correct the the sinners, the unrighteous people out there. Evangel or as one preacher put it, evangelism and evangelism by the way is just simply sharing our faith with other people. Sharing our faith with other people. Evangelism is just one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread.

But I am a brand ambassador for something. And if you are here today and you're a follower of Jesus, you're a brand ambassador as well. You are a brand ambassador. You are sponsored by Jesus, which means that when people learn that you are a Christian, how they view you is how they are going to view Jesus, which means it's important. It's valuable. It's important that we are intentional about representing him well, about being in the workplace, the most loving people in our workplace. It it means that we have to be the most full of integrity people in in all the people out of all the people that we work with. It means that we have to be the people that are exhibiting what Paul refers to as the fruit of the spirit.

The other way that you can, as Peter refers to, the other way you can be prepared to give an answer is to share your own story, to share about Jesus through your own story. Did you know that Christianity at the end of the day is not it's not a religion. It's not a a series or a sequence of beliefs. It's not just a bunch of beliefs and here's what I believe and this is what we tend to come across as, here's what we believe and here's why you're wrong if you don't believe that and at the yes, there are things that we believe and they're important things, but at the end of the day, Christianity is not about religion. It's not about belief system. It's about having a relationship with the god of the universe through what Jesus did for you and for me.

The whole point of the Christian life of following Jesus, once you put your faith in his death and resurrection is to be transformed into something. And in this case, Paul's like, hey, you should be growing in things like this. These are the the fruit of the spirit. You should be growing in love and joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. In your workplace, people should see you becoming more of these things. If you're following Jesus, these things should stand out in your life. People should be noting a difference and I'm not talking about perfection. I'm not saying you have to be perfect in all these areas. I'm just saying you have to be growing.

So before we look at two things in particular, let's just talk about what the whole the the New Testament, the second half of our Bibles, let's talk about kind of the let's summarize that generally a little bit. The best way that I have to describe that or to kind of, help you picture this is that we in the workplace, Christians, we wanna create pull, not push. We wanna create pull, not push. Pushy is like being pushy with our faith would actually actually be the opposite of our goal in the workplace.

The second thing that matters is our quality of life. The quality of life that we are living so that as Paul said, you can win the daily your daily life can win the respect of outsiders. The life that you live has the opportunity to open people up to to you and what you have to say and your faith to to respect you or the life that you live has the opportunity to do the exact opposite. The life that you're living will either open people up to you or it will close people off to you. People's opinion of Jesus in the place that you work will be based on the people that they experience that claim that they are following Jesus. Just gonna say that again. People's opinion of Jesus will be based on the people who claim they are following him.

And so people are gonna ask. They're gonna ask about hope. They're gonna ask about, like, why are you different? Or when it comes to hope, if you're the the person that's living this stuff out, when somebody's life falls apart, you're gonna be the person that they come to. And Peter says, you gotta be prepared to give an answer. You gotta be prepared to answer. Hey. Why is it that you are so hopeful? This place is not a very hopeful place. This oh, man. Work sucks. Like, I know. Late night, come home. Yeah. That's terrible. Why are you so hopeful? This place is terrible. Well, because my hope is not built on my circumstances. My hope is not centered on my circumstances. My hope is placed in a God who loves me and has placed me here at this time.

That's like the most boring thing I've ever heard in my life. Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life. What's that even look like Paul? Here's what it looks like. Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business. I love that. That's one of my favorite verses in all of scripture. Did you know Paul tells you to mind your own business? To mind your own business and to work to work hard with your hands just as we told you so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anyone.
