#TurnToJesus
“What is your moment like Peter? What is something in your life that you wish that you could have undone? That if you could make a decision differently in your life and you could have changed that. What are the failures you keep replaying and over and over in your mind? Turn towards Jesus and rest those failures on him. He can carry that load. Don't run away from Jesus because of the decisions we have made. Run towards him because of his story and the holiness of Jesus.”

#PastIsNotYourFuture
“Maybe you thought you were stronger than you really are. And as a result of some of those failures, maybe you've quietly decided that God can use other people, but not me. This is why we look at Peter. Because Peter's story shows that your failure can be real, your failures can be something that really, truly is a devastation. But that cannot be the end. That may not be the final answer in your life. Our past can be part of our story. Our past can even define who we are to a point, but our past can also not determine who we're going to be in the future.”

#PurposeRestored
“Three times he asked him. Three times Peter had denied him. Three times he asked him, do you love me? And Jesus doesn't just gloss over the fact that he failed him. Jesus doesn't just say, well, it's okay. Whatever happened back there is now in the past, and let's move forward. He addresses it directly. And by asking him these questions, he gives Peter his purpose back. After each question, Jesus gives Peter an assignment. Feed my lambs. Take care of my sheep. Feed my sheep.”

#RespondNotRetreat
“The issue is not whether or not we have failed. I could count countless times in my life that I've failed. We all have failed at something. The question is not have you failed? The question is what are you gonna do as a response to your failure? Do you run away from Jesus? Hide yourself in the under the blankets? Or do you run towards Jesus? Peter, as a result of running towards Jesus, he continues and becomes one of the central leaders of the early church.”

#StandOnJesus
“But he thought he could stand in there in his own strength. He had confidence. Was it too much? Possibly. He knew he thought that he knew what he'd be able to do when the pressures come, but that's not what happens. Sometimes just having good intentions, sometimes just having the right ideas listed before us is not the same as having a spiritual strength. That we're not standing on our own foundations, we're standing on the foundation that is Jesus.”

#FailureIsntIdentity
“At times, failure can convince us that our own worst moment is our true identity. What was Peter thinking in these moments? Could have been that he was thinking that he was not the disciple that he thought he was. Maybe he he thought that he had betrayed Jesus so far that maybe Jesus can't even use him anymore. Maybe through the the decisions and and factors of my life, maybe he's disqualified himself from serving Jesus. That's where too many people live. We can define ourselves by the decisions that we've made, and we can focus in tunnel vision on those problems. But luckily, this isn't the end of Peter's story.”

#GodIsBiggerThanFailure
“Failure is a part of just about every human being's story. It's something that we can all connect and agree upon. There has been failure in our life somewhere. Sometimes big, sometimes small. But, God, you are bigger than all failures in this world, and I am created in your own image. Help me to see you through all of my life's failures today. Help me to rest on who you are.”

#TurnBackNotAway
“In this story, we got a glimpse of two disciples, two high ranking disciples. Both men failed Jesus. Both men were leaders of the 12. Both men experienced incredible regret over the decisions that they had made. But their two stories ended differently. Judas ran away. Ultimately, he took his own life. Judas allowed the failures of his life to completely define who he was and be the end of his story. Peter turns back. Peter turns towards Jesus.”
