The message of the false prophets was attractive and even seductive. The message was essentially to say peace even when there was no peace. Their message was filled with a false hope and inspiration. It was packed with empty optimism and confidence. Their message was something like this. Don't despair. God will deliver us and we will win against the Babylonians. But friends, it was a false message. [00:12:56]

The seductive message looked great. It looks strong and stable on the outside, but it had no true strength. It was like a wall built with poor materials with a mortar that had no proper adhesive property or or or strengthening hardening properties. And so the wall was built, but it was just going to fall down because there was nothing in it to make it stick together. [00:15:23]

And friends, I I I wish that God's messengers that that not only self-proclaimed prophets, but those who preach and teach God's word, wouldn't it be a wonderful thing if they could just speak words of peace all the time and never a warning, never an announcement of judgment for those who refuse to repent. But friends, if we speak peace when there is no peace, we're speaking falsely. [00:14:07]

These self-proclaimed prophets were not only false, they were also foolish. And one reason they were foolish was because they regarded what came from their own heart and from their own spirit. That's the phrase used in verse three. Uh their own heart was used in verse two. Their own spirit is used in verse three. that they considered what came from their own heart and their own spirit to be more important than what God had said. [00:05:02]

I believe that prophecy is different from preaching, though there's some relationship between the two. But, but I think that that principle goes for both prophets and preachers. People who claim to speak in the name of the Lord, whether they're teaching God's word or whether they're sort of purporting to have a a spontaneous word of prophecy, it needs to be inspected. But, but be careful about finding shelter under an uninspected wall. You're in danger. [00:19:28]

So the bottom line is simply this as it says at the end of verse six. But the Lord has not sent them. Friends, this was a strong condemnation of the selfappointed prophets. To claim a calling when there is none is a significant sin. They claimed to speak in the name of the Lord, but it was an empty claim. [00:09:17]

Friends, the essential message of Ezekiel and Jeremiah as well was that judgment was on the way. Yes, they spoke of God's restoration eventually after that judgment. But one of their main messages was in both Ezekiel and Jeremiah, God's judgment is on the way and that God's people should accept that judgment as God's chastening and his cleansing. In contrast, the false prophets had visions of peace as they're described in verse 16, leaving God's people completely unprepared for the judgment that was on the way. [00:21:01]

Friends, sadly, in many portions of the broader charismatic world today, that's the problem. There's no inspection of the work of the prophets. So, are they building with untempered mortar? Maybe they are. Maybe they aren't. Nobody's looking at it. Whereas the Bible tells us that we should test the words of the prophets. We should inspect them. [00:16:45]

The source of their false prophecy wasn't necessarily directly demonic. There was simply a large element of their own heart in what they said, their own desires, their own hopes, their own wisdom, their own need for acceptance. All these prompted their words. [00:02:31]

One basic failing of the female false prophets was the same as the false prophets in general according to verse two of this chapter. They spoke out of their own heart, not from God and his word. You know, friends, it's very common for people to trust their own hearts instead of God's revelation. [00:25:10]

Friends, the practice of false prophetesses and prophets hunting souls has not ended. Those who seduce others with false words, pretended prophecies, magic charms, special clothing, and other things, they are still among us, and they need to be rejected. And they need to be as much as anything not listened to. [00:27:08]

And so this is what God says to Ezekiel. Hear the word of the Lord. This was the fundamental message that these false prophets needed to hear. They needed to stop listening to the message of their own heart and they needed to stop paying close they needed to start paying close attention to the word of the Lord. [00:03:40]

Verse three says they follow their own spirit and have seen nothing. Their message was not based on a true relationship with God. In that regard, they had seen nothing. Their message followed their own spirit, not God's holy spirit. [00:05:57]

What Ezekiel did with such eloquence here in chapter 13, Jesus did in his ministry as well. Jesus was very interested to warn of and to expose false prophets. Exactly what Ezekiel is doing here. [00:35:16]

If the false prophets had received and delivered a message from God himself, then it would have given the house of Israel a secure place to stand when the judgment of God came. [00:08:35]
