Experiencing the Transformative Power of God's Love

Summary

Understanding the depth of God's love is a transformative experience that goes beyond mere intellectual comprehension. It's a profound realization that changes the core of who we are. Paul, in his prayers, sought this miracle—not a physical healing or a visible manifestation, but a deep, spiritual awakening to the love of God. This love is vast, immeasurable, and life-changing. Paul understood that no amount of human effort could instill this understanding; it is a divine gift granted by God through the Holy Spirit.

Reflecting on my own journey, I recognize that I have often focused on external actions—crafting sermons, counseling, and organizing programs—believing these could convey the depth of God's love. However, like Paul, I have come to realize the importance of prayer. It is through prayer that we invite God to work in the hearts of others, to reveal His love in a way that surpasses human understanding.

Bowing in prayer is a powerful act of surrender, acknowledging our limitations and God's sovereignty. In our culture, bowing is rare, reserved for moments of deep reverence. When we bow before God, we acknowledge His greatness and our need for His intervention. Paul bowed in prayer, not just for himself, but on behalf of others, seeking God's strength and revelation for them.

The analogy of trying to set up a friend in a relationship illustrates the futility of human efforts to create love. Just as we cannot force someone to fall in love, we cannot make others understand God's love. We can introduce them to God, share the gospel, and testify to His love, but ultimately, it is God who opens hearts and minds to His love.

This understanding of God's love is not just intellectual; it is experiential. It is a knowledge that surpasses knowledge, a deep-seated awareness that transforms our lives. As we pray for others to grasp this love, we trust that God will grant them the strength to know the love of Christ, which surpasses all understanding.

Day 1: Divine Revelation of God's Love
Understanding God's love is not a human achievement but a divine revelation. This love is vast and transformative, changing the core of who we are. It is a profound realization that goes beyond mere intellectual comprehension. Paul, in his prayers, sought this miracle—a deep, spiritual awakening to the love of God. This love is immeasurable and life-changing, and no amount of human effort can instill this understanding; it is a divine gift granted by God through the Holy Spirit. As we open ourselves to this revelation, we allow God's love to transform us from the inside out, reshaping our identity and purpose. [00:30]

Ephesians 3:18-19 (ESV): "May have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God."

Reflection: In what ways have you experienced God's love as a transformative force in your life? How can you open yourself more to this divine revelation today?

Day 2: The Essential Role of Prayer
Prayer is essential in seeking God's intervention for others. Like Paul, we must bow in prayer, acknowledging our limitations and God's sovereignty, asking Him to reveal His love to those we care about. Bowing in prayer is a powerful act of surrender and reverence, signifying our recognition of God's greatness and our dependence on Him. In our culture, bowing is rare, reserved for moments of deep reverence. When we bow before God, we acknowledge His greatness and our need for His intervention. Through prayer, we invite God to work in the hearts of others, trusting that He will reveal His love in a way that surpasses human understanding. [02:00]

Colossians 4:2-3 (ESV): "Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ."

Reflection: Who in your life needs to experience God's love? How can you commit to praying for them consistently this week?

Day 3: Surrender and Reverence in Prayer
Bowing in prayer is a powerful act of surrender and reverence. It signifies our recognition of God's greatness and our dependence on Him to work in our lives and the lives of others. In a culture where bowing is rare, this act becomes a profound expression of humility and submission to God's will. When we bow before God, we acknowledge His sovereignty and our need for His guidance and strength. This posture of prayer reflects a heart that is open to God's leading and willing to trust Him with every aspect of life. [02:58]

James 4:10 (ESV): "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you."

Reflection: What areas of your life do you need to surrender to God in prayer? How can you physically or symbolically bow before Him today as an act of reverence?

Day 4: The Limitations of Human Effort
Human efforts cannot instill the understanding of God's love. We can introduce others to God and share the gospel, but it is God who opens hearts and minds to His love. The analogy of trying to set up a friend in a relationship illustrates the futility of human efforts to create love. Just as we cannot force someone to fall in love, we cannot make others understand God's love. Our role is to faithfully share the message of God's love and trust that He will do the work of opening hearts and minds. [06:30]

1 Corinthians 3:6-7 (ESV): "I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth."

Reflection: How can you be more intentional in sharing God's love with others, while trusting God to do the work of transformation in their hearts?

Day 5: Experiencing the Love of Christ
Experiencing God's love is a knowledge that surpasses knowledge. It is a deep-seated awareness that transforms our lives, enabling us to truly grasp the love of Christ. This understanding is not just intellectual; it is experiential. As we pray for others to grasp this love, we trust that God will grant them the strength to know the love of Christ, which surpasses all understanding. This experiential knowledge of God's love empowers us to live out our faith with authenticity and passion, impacting the world around us. [08:07]

1 John 4:16 (ESV): "So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him."

Reflection: How have you experienced the love of Christ in a way that surpasses mere knowledge? How can you share this experiential knowledge with someone else today?

Quotes

the problem is we don't understand how good God is and some of us in this room don't understand the love of God like we should and the depth of that how wide and long and high and deep we kind of do we kind of get it and so we kind of follow and if we really understood man we would it changes us and that's the miracle that Paul's praying for here is not a miracle of a physical healing or some manifestation that way but of of your the core of your being that you would understand this love [00:00:03]

Paul prayed for this because he knew there was nothing he could do physically to cause this to make it happen see and while I see some of the things I did wrong was that Paul dealt with the heart and really got to the core and sometimes I dealt with symptoms the other thing was Paul really committed to pray whereas I often time committed to work and try harder and maybe I can craft the perfect sermon or maybe through this counseling session I would really get it across or this program [00:00:57]

I need to confess that to you that I when I look at this passage I go I did not pray hard enough for you the beautiful thing is that I think I've been praying harder for you this week than when I was actually living here and the beautiful thing is that this can still happen um and I praise God for that that I could get on my knees and I I picture your faces and go God I want them to get the depth of your love and I want them to understand [00:01:32]

for this reason I bow my knees I get on my knees and and that's not the only way that we pray I mean there are other times in scripture when someone stands and prays other times when they're sitting and then they pray but there's something about bowing and getting on your knees and and we it's it's in our culture we don't bow before anyone you know in their culture they did they would bow bow before Kings bow before monarchs [00:02:06]

maybe it's a good thing that we don't bow before people um so that this is the one instance in which we do you know so it's not like oh we bow before our King we bow for this guy we bow before God no we don't really bow for anyone but but this is pretty cool that we we could do this gesture this this this posture of prayer where we just get on our knees and say okay I've met my match is not even a clue I Surrender who in the world am I [00:02:36]

I am getting on my knees I'm getting on my face you're almighty God I bow before you and Paul says man I bow before this is the reason you want to know why I bow he goes I'm bowing on your behalf I'm Bowing in prayer for you for this reason I bow my knees before the father from every family in heaven on Earth his name I'm bowing before the creator of everyone I'm bowing before our God the one that saved us and gave us his name Christian [00:03:03]

Paul understood this it was something that God just grants to a person I can't I no matter how hard I work I can't make you understand how much Jesus loves you God has to Super naturally do that by the power of His Holy Spirit and at some point you just get it and and while we waver in and out of that it's it's the holy spirit that keeps you getting it it's great granted to you and it happens through prayer [00:03:58]

if you come in here and you do not love Jesus Christ and you do not understand that Jesus Christ really loves you I am not going to talk you into that right now that's something God's got to just do and that's why Paul understood I'm going to get on my knees it's like this well when Lisa and I lived in SEI Valley we always had people living with us and we had this one gal that lived with us a long time relle and uh so we tried to marry her off [00:04:33]

we would always it was kind of fun to us we would try to set her up even all our kids prayed that relle would get married you know and we would just we try to set her up with some of you you you know we just you you know and some you guys are nodding your heads and it was just like anything you know and you it's like hey relle we got a coming over today he's single you know after he fixes the thing come out with cookies you know and I'll go W relle you're always baking [00:04:59]

I can make the introduction okay you can walk in this room and I can tell you listen God who you the creator of the world the only one that matters he so loves you more than your wife more than your kids more than your mom your dad any friend any girlfriend boyfriend he's crazy about you he so Lov the world so much that he gave his son man do you understand how Wicked you were how much you rebelled against him and he he loved you in the midst of that [00:06:30]

while you were a sinner he gave his son can you believe that his son and and he watched his son on a cross I mean who does that what kind of love is that that watches his son die for someone else and and then his son rises from the grave after being buried for 3 days he just gets up by the power of the spirit and he's just talking and you know ascends back into heaven and then he can put his spirit inside of you he'll change everything what an amazing God [00:07:07]

some of you will go H that's nice and I can make that introduction and seriously nothing will happen until Somehow Here like Paul says the holy spirit gives you a Str strength to know to know interesting phrase that you may know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge he lets you know something that you can't know you get to a a depth of this real understanding in your inner man this knowledge of God loves us oh how he loves us [00:07:39]
