#HealFromYourPast
“``A very deep truth from this point in the story of Exodus forward is that while the Israelites have physically left Egypt, there's still a lot of Egypt left in them. We can be physically removed from a bad situation, and yet that situation is it's in us. Right? It's forming us. It's shaping us. It informs how we respond and react to different things. The story is not just about Israel getting out of Egypt. It's about getting Egypt out of Israel.”

#RestOverGrind
“And they're not machines who just keep producing and producing and producing. We are not machines who have to keep producing and producing. We don't have to work all the time. We don't have to grind all the time. We can stop, and we can slow down, and we can trust. Maybe another way of saying it is overworking. It's sometimes called grind culture online these days. Overworking is a profound break in relationship and trust in God.”

#RememberGodsProvision
“Now, when God provides, it's important that we name it and that we memorialize it. At the end of Exodus 16, there's this weird note about how God tells Moses and Aaron to save some of the manna. God says, take a jar and put an omer of manna in it, an omer is just a measurement, and then place it before the Lord to be kept for the generations to come. When God provides, memorialize name it. We need these physical reminders because it is so easy for us to forget.”

#AskBigger
“Now I think the good news in the story here for us today is that we can trust God. Not only do we have the story of Exodus, not only do we have the whole story of scripture with Jesus at the center of it. We know about his life and his death and his resurrection. We also have our personal experiences. Right? The ways in which we have seen God show up for us. We can trust God to provide what we need, and I think we can also trust God to ask As the relationship between God and Israel is being reestablished, as it's starting to regrow, part of what Yahweh is doing in this story is inviting the people of Israel to ask, don't just go to Moses and grumble, ask me. Ask bigger, God is saying.”

#AskBoldly
“I think I have this this aversion to theologies that turn God into a genie who just is there to grant our wishes. And so sometimes, I think that undermines my ability to ask boldly because I don't wanna fall in to that trap. But both of those issues can cause me to miss out on God's provision. I miss opportunities to grow in trust, to grow in my relationship with God as God provides for me and my family, for us here at Discovery in unique ways. This is one of the things there's a lot of things I don't miss about fundraising, to be honest. But one of the things I do miss is some of the stories. I need to ask bigger. We need to ask bigger.”

#RecognizeGodsProvision
“I don't know about you. I there's no manna that shows up on my doorstep on the morning. Right? We may not have these these miraculous moments, but God does provide for us in so many different ways. Like, a couple of important questions we need to ask in response to this story is do we recognize God's provision when it shows up? Do we name it? Are we able to say that that was it? That was God showing up and providing for me? And then does that provision lead us deeper into trust, into knowing, into relationship with God?”

#SabbathBuildsTrust
“And so this Sabbath limit is not about God being stingy or testing them in some kind of cruel way. Let's see if they can do this. Let's see if they can pass this test. Yahweh has demonstrated a tremendous generosity, a tremendous faithfulness. Just just look at how much he gave them in response to their grumbling, and they didn't even use their manners. So this Sabbath limit, I think, fulfills a couple different purposes. One is that it's yet another way of forming and establishing the relationship, building trust, learning Israel learning how God can and will provide for them and take care of them, and that at the same time, it's an introduction to this new reality, this truth that they had forgotten as slaves, that they are human beings.”

#GodIsRelational
“This is very important. Remember the the sort of bigger arc of the narrative of of the book that we've looked at so far. In this story, in the Exodus story, God is achieving his mission for redeeming his good creation by fulfilling his covenant promised to Abraham, which is all about land and seed, a family and a home. This family is meant to be a blessing to all the other families of the earth. And underneath that is the truth that God, Yahweh, is relational. God wants to be with us so that he can be known by us.”
