The spiritual armor God provides is meant to protect and empower us in the context of our relationships, where the enemy most often seeks to attack. The unseen spiritual realm directly impacts our visible, everyday lives, especially through relational strife—whether in marriage, family, church, or work. The devil’s schemes are aimed at sowing discord, bitterness, and division, because in the end, what matters most is our relationship with God and with others. Recognizing this, we are called to be battle ready, not just for our own sake, but to guard the unity and love that God desires for His people. [16:22]
Ephesians 6:10-12 (ESV)
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Reflection: Where do you see the enemy trying to create division or strife in your relationships right now, and how can you invite God’s protection and healing into those specific places today?
Every piece of the spiritual armor points to Jesus Himself; when you “put on” the armor, you are clothing yourself with Christ and His power, not relying on your own strength. Jesus is the truth, our righteousness, our peace, the author of our faith, our salvation, and the living Word of God. When you focus on Him throughout your day—inviting Him into your thoughts, decisions, and relationships—you are plugging into the power and wisdom of heaven. If you can’t remember all the pieces of armor, simply remember to “put your Jesus on” and let Him lead you. [29:30]
Romans 13:14 (ESV)
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
Reflection: What would it look like for you to intentionally “put on Jesus” as you start your day—how might it change your attitude, your words, or your actions in a specific situation you’re facing?
The purpose of the armor is to lead us into ongoing, Spirit-filled prayer, where we access God’s power and guidance for every part of our lives. Prayer is not just a ritual or a box to check; it is the way we invite God into our real struggles, relationships, and decisions. We are called to pray “on all occasions, with all kinds of prayers and requests,” staying alert and persistent for ourselves and for others. This is how we move from just talking about God’s power to actually experiencing it in our daily lives. [35:19]
Ephesians 6:18 (ESV)
Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you have not been inviting God in through prayer, and how can you begin a real, honest conversation with Him about it today?
The true power of God is released in our lives when we not only pray, but also obey what He shows us. Faith is not just believing harder; it is trusting God enough to do what He says, even when it’s difficult or countercultural. Obedience is the evidence of real trust, and it is through this combination of prayer and obedience that we experience God’s help, wisdom, and victory in our battles. [43:10]
James 1:22 (ESV)
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
Reflection: Is there something God has been prompting you to do—or stop doing—that you’ve been resisting? What is one step of obedience you can take today in response to His leading?
Baptism is an outward symbol of an inward decision to trust Jesus, showing that the old self has died and a new life has begun, clothed in His love, mercy, and grace. It is both a one-time declaration and a daily choice to live for God rather than for ourselves. This public step celebrates the joy and transformation that comes from putting on Jesus and following Him, reminding us that we are not alone but part of a family of faith. [45:45]
2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Reflection: If you have already been baptized, how can you daily live out the reality of your new life in Christ? If you haven’t, what is holding you back from taking this step of faith?
It’s so good to be back with you all after my sabbatical, and I’m deeply grateful for this church family and the way you love and serve one another. Today, we wrapped up our “Battle Ready” series by focusing on what it truly means to put on the armor of God—not just to know about it, but to actually walk in it. The spiritual realm is real, and it impacts our everyday lives, especially our relationships. The enemy’s primary strategy is to sow division, strife, and bitterness in our relationships—whether in the church, in our marriages, with our children, or at work. That’s why Paul, in Ephesians, talks about relationships before he talks about spiritual warfare. The armor of God is given to us so we can stand strong in God’s power, not our own, and so we can protect and nurture the relationships that matter most.
But having the armor isn’t the end goal. It’s not about flexing spiritual muscles or accumulating knowledge. The armor is meant to lead us somewhere: into deeper relationship with God, and into a life of prayer and obedience. If you can’t remember all the pieces of the armor, just remember to “put your Jesus on.” Jesus is the truth, our righteousness, our peace, our faith, our salvation, and the living Word of God. When we focus on Him, we access the power and wisdom we need for every battle.
Putting on Jesus means making Him the focus of our lives—inviting Him into every moment, every relationship, every struggle. The armor leads us into prayer, which is how we access God’s power. Prayer isn’t just a ritual or a box to check; it’s an ongoing conversation with God about the real stuff of life. We pray in the Spirit, relying on God’s Word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and we pray with open hands—ready to surrender and obey. The power comes not just from praying, but from praying and obeying. Faith is trusting God enough to do what He says, even when it’s hard or doesn’t make sense. As we celebrate baptisms today, we’re reminded that following Jesus is both a one-time decision and a daily choice to put Him on, pray, and obey. That’s how we become truly battle ready.
Ephesians 6:10-18 (ESV) — > Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.
Romans 13:14 (ESV) — > But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
John 14:6 (ESV) — > Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
It's not about more biblical knowledge, flexing, posing. Ooh, that was a really good study. No, no, no, no. It's about applying this stuff and walking in it so that we can experience the power of God in our lives and in our relationships. [00:20:53] (15 seconds) #ApplyAndWalkInFaith
``When the devil fights us, He does not fight with artillery. He fights with ideology. Listen close. Jesus calls the devil the father of lies. He lies. He causes us to lie to ourselves. You know what we call it? Rationalizing. It's telling yourself rational lies. [00:22:17] (27 seconds) #DevilsWeaponIsLies
If you're not clothing yourself with Jesus you're walking around naked in your own willpower and if you could have saved yourself you wouldn't have wound up where you are we need him but we tend to leave him out. [00:32:48] (19 seconds) #WithoutJesusYoureNaked
When you pray the Bible back to God, you're always praying according to God's will. God will speak to you primarily through the Bible. God's will is found in God's word. Stop looking for a sign and start looking for a verse. [00:40:06] (15 seconds) #PrayerAlignsWithGod
Prayer is not getting God on your page. You can ask him for whatever you want. He wants you to do that. You can talk about your frustrations with him, all those kinds of things. But the primary purpose for prayer is so that you and I can get on God's page. It's God as you wish. [00:41:16] (18 seconds) #ArmorLeadsToThrone
Okay, here's the two things I want you to remember in the sermon if you don't remember anything else. Put your Jesus on and pray and obey. That's it, that's the sermon. Because the power comes through the two -fold decision of praying and obeying. [00:42:31] (17 seconds) #TrustObeyBelieve
To believe is to trust and to trust is to obey. I'm gonna say it again. To believe is to trust and to trust is what? To obey. The armor is there to lead us somewhere. Where's it leading us? Into the throne room of God. Why? So that we might receive instruction from God, power of God, help from God, so that we might do what God says and walk according to God's ways. That's how it works.
