True strength for spiritual battles comes from relying on God’s power, not our own. When we try to face life’s struggles in our own strength, we quickly find ourselves overwhelmed and defeated. But God calls us to be “strong in the Lord and in the power of His might,” reminding us that victory is not about our ability, but about His. Just as a child cannot lift a heavy burden alone, we are not meant to fight spiritual battles by ourselves. Instead, we are invited to lean on the strength that God provides, trusting that His power is more than enough for every challenge we face. [01:13:17]
Ephesians 6:10 (ESV)
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
Reflection: Where in your life have you been trying to fight your battles alone? What would it look like today to intentionally surrender that struggle to God and ask for His strength instead of your own?
Spiritual warfare requires a daily change of wardrobe—putting on the full armor of God, not just part of it. Just as we dress for the weather, we must clothe ourselves spiritually for the battles we face. This means intentionally putting on truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the word of God, along with prayer. If we neglect even one piece, we leave ourselves vulnerable to the enemy’s attacks. The armor is not something to leave in the closet; it is a daily necessity for standing firm against the schemes of the devil. [01:19:42]
Ephesians 6:11 (ESV)
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
Reflection: Which piece of God’s armor do you most often neglect or forget to “put on”? How can you make a practical change in your morning routine to remember and equip yourself fully each day?
In spiritual warfare, it is crucial to recognize that our true enemy is not other people, but the spiritual forces of evil. Too often, we misdirect our frustration and anger toward those around us, forgetting that the real battle is not against flesh and blood. The devil’s tactics are subtle and deceptive, aiming to divide, distract, and destroy. By understanding who our enemy truly is, we can resist his schemes and stand firm in God’s truth, refusing to let division or bitterness take root in our hearts. [01:22:30]
Ephesians 6:12 (ESV)
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Reflection: Is there someone you’ve been blaming or fighting with, when the real battle is spiritual? How can you shift your perspective and begin to pray for them instead of fighting against them?
Because of Jesus, victory in spiritual warfare is already secured—even as the battle continues. Christ is seated in heavenly places, far above all powers and authorities, and we are seated with Him. This means that while the enemy may try to attack, he cannot take away the spiritual blessings God has given us. Our call is to walk in the victory that Jesus has already accomplished, trusting that God is fighting for us in ways we cannot see, and that our ultimate hope is secure in Him. [01:14:28]
Ephesians 1:19-21 (ESV)
…and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.
Reflection: What would it look like for you to live today as someone who is already victorious in Christ, rather than someone still trying to earn victory?
Prayer is not just a ritual—it is our direct line to God and a vital weapon in spiritual warfare. When we pray, we invite God’s power into our battles and align ourselves with His will. Prayer is the final piece that holds the armor of God together, enabling us to stand firm and resist the enemy. In seasons of struggle, don’t neglect the power of calling out to God; He hears and answers the cries of His people, and through prayer, we find strength, guidance, and victory. [01:08:41]
Ephesians 6:18 (ESV)
Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.
Reflection: When was the last time you truly cried out to God about your spiritual battles? Set aside time today to pray specifically for God’s strength and protection—for yourself and for others in your church family.
In life, we are constantly engaged in a spiritual battle that is often unseen but deeply real. The enemy, Satan, is relentless in his attempts to attack our families, our health, our finances, and our faith. Yet, we are not left defenseless. God has declared war on the enemy since the beginning, and through Christ, we have both victory and an ally who fights on our behalf in the heavenly places. Our strength does not come from ourselves, but from the Lord, who has already secured victory through Jesus’ death, resurrection, and exaltation.
Unity among believers is not something we manufacture, but a byproduct of the gospel itself. We are called to maintain this unity and to live lives that reflect the reality of being in Christ. The blessings we have are spiritual in nature, found in Christ and in the heavenly places, and they cannot be taken away by the enemy. However, the devil’s greatest tactic is deception—he wants us to doubt God’s promises and to fight in our own strength, which always leads to defeat.
To stand firm in this battle, we must put on the whole armor of God. This is not about external appearances, but about clothing ourselves daily with truth, righteousness, the gospel, faith, salvation, the word of God, and prayer. Each piece is essential; neglecting any part leaves us vulnerable to the enemy’s schemes. Spiritual warfare requires us to change our wardrobe, to intentionally and continually equip ourselves for the fight.
It is crucial to recognize who our true enemy is. Our struggle is not against flesh and blood—not against our spouses, children, coworkers, or even ourselves—but against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ignorance of this reality leads us to fight the wrong battles and to miss the real threat. But even as the enemy plots, we have an ally in Christ who intercedes for us and empowers us to stand.
Victory is already won in Christ, but we must walk in that victory daily. This means relying on God’s strength, not our own, and being vigilant in prayer and in the word. Whether you are new to the faith or have been wrestling for years, the invitation is to put on Christ, to stand firm, and to remember that God is fighting for you. Whatever you are facing, keep the faith—joy comes in the morning.
Ephesians 6:10-18 (ESV) — > Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.
Ephesians 1:3 (ESV) — > Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.
Genesis 3:15 (ESV) — > I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.
Just like Japan made an attack at her heart, Satan made an attack in Genesis chapter 3. When he came and received the people of God, in Genesis 3:13, God issued a declaration of war on the enemy when he said that I will put enmity between that seed and the woman's seed. And the woman's seed shall bruise, that seed's healed, but the seed's healed shall bruise the woman's seed's head. God issued a declaration of war. In other words, God says that this means war. And I don't know who I'm talking to on this morning, but the devil may be trying to attack your family. He's trying to attack your hell. He's trying to attack your finances. He's trying to attack your family. But I wish I had a witness who could help me shy about this means war. You're not just gonna fall up in my house. You're not just gonna fall up in my mind. You're not just gonna fall up in my mind. You're gonna just fall up in my family. This means war. [00:50:04]
Well, what the devil must have forgotten was that as Christians, we got an hour. The violence, the violence that's gone, and it's our reputation. The devil must have forgotten, and we got an ally. The world is my lifetime and my salvation. We will suffer from my life, and we will never be afraid. We will not be afraid, but we got an ally. This is God who wants. You got an ally, but the battle is not your boss, but the battle is the Lord, we got an ally. [00:52:32]
Beloved, one of the dangers, the misconception of the Christianity march is the idea that we're on the bullshit instead of the battleship. We fail to recognize that as children of God, every day we wake up, we're in a battle of sin, a battle of our flesh, and a battle of the devil. And one of the devil's greatest tactics, family, is deception. He wants you and I to believe that he is not real. He wants to deceive us of God's promises. He is the father of lies. And if we're not being sanctified by God's truth, we will succumb to the devil's lies. Now, let me preach on this, but I've got what I said again, that if we are not sanctified by God's truth, we will succumb to the devil's lies. [00:53:15]
Which has to understand, beloved, that unity is a byproduct of the gospel, and not a construct that you and I created. Let me say it again, that unity is a byproduct of the gospel, and not a construct that you and I created. In other words, we do not create unity, but we are called to maintain the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace. [00:55:24]
What Paul wants the church to understand about is that being in Christ should result in a life that reflects Christ. [00:57:02]
So what is Paul saying? He's saying that the blessed God blessed us with all spiritual blessings. That blessings that the world can not give and the world can't take away. That these blessings, beloved, are not like your car or your house or the car that Satan can take all of that away. But these blessings are spiritual in nature and operate in a realm outside of this present world. [00:59:14]
Because heaven is, I'm not only a place where all spiritual blessings are, and where Christ sits, but it's also a place where spiritual warfare happens. And until Christ returns, y 'all, there will be a spiritual battle between good and evil, between God and the devil, in a place where you are present, but yet you cannot see it. And because we can't actually see what's taking place, you and I have to begin on our ally who is already there. [01:01:54]
He is intentionally and consistently doing all he can to try to get you and I to forfeit our spiritual blessing and about the ministry of our faith in Christ. [01:02:55]
Here's our first point in the text. I remember when I was a kid, I remember my dad, my dad, he worked out, he was in the gym, he was in the big bunk, all that stuff. And we were at my grandmother's house, my birth grandmother's house, actually. And my grandmother was there, my dad was there. They were having this contest. He was the strongest, all this stuff. Granddad was strong, big and all that. So they went outside. They went outside. And they went to the car.And my granddad bent down and lifted up on one side. He lifted up the car. And I'm sitting there as a little boy. I'm looking. I'm amazed. Now, what my granddad can do? So my daddy said, well, you ain't the only one that can lift up the car. So my dad goes to the other side of the car. He squats down, gets in position, and he lifts up the car. Now, me being a little 10 -11 -year -old boy, seeing my grandfather and my father do this, you know I thought in my mind that I could do the same thing. So this 10 -11 -year -old boy, I go down, and I try to get in position like my daddy. And I start to put my hand on the car. And I turn the liquid and the car will move. And I realize that it was too strong for me. And I didn't have the strength to lift up the car myself. But you know what happened? My dad and my grandma. And he's fighting on our back. And when they're fighting, it's scary. And we can't see it. And when my strength does not work,You cannot appear, hear me, you cannot appear on your own strength. [01:04:36]
Self -sufficiency in spiritual struggles is spiritual suicide. But if you try to go into this thing on the wall. And it means that every time you try to fight the devil is without God. And you won't find yourself in a position that I'm not talking so hard in every time. And beloved, it's in those times that I tried to fight the devil with myself. And I was up all night facing the floor, worried and trying to figure it out myself. And that's the reminder that I don't get into this, brother.Over the vide, we north and forth.Over the needless pains we bear, all because we do not care. This is the same. God. [01:07:11]
There's power in prayer, it's actually our hotline heaven, that if you want to see God move, you better call out to him as God answers to cry out his people. There's power in prayer, it's actually the end of the epilogue to the spiritual armor of the full armor of God. Paul said it in verse 18, he said make sure that you comfort yourself with all these garments, make sure that you close it out with prayer and pray with supplication in the spirit. There's power in prayer. You cannot, I cannot fight this one, this battle on my own. [01:08:04]
The only way you can do what is required of you is that if you be strong in the Lord, the only way you can live a life that pleases God, the only way you can be angry and sin not, the only way you can love your spouse, the only way you can raise your children more, the only way you can endorse spiritual warfare is if you be strong in the Lord. This is Paul's clarifying call. It's his reminder to every child of God, whether you realize it or not, that you have been called into affidavity. [01:09:35]
So, this power, this strength, it dwells in us, but it does not come from us.It dwells in us, but it doesn't come from, it dwells in us, but we are called spirit, which is why Paul would say, walk in the spirit in Galatians 5, but we are going to be filled with spirit in Galatians 5, and grieve not the Holy Spirit. So, here it is, Paul wants us to understand, he wants us to be strong and to know in the Lord.It actually, what my brother does to me, it actually means to be endowed with strength. To be, to be strengthened. He's telling them to walk in the strength and power that comes from the source that is in heavenly power, which is the Lord.He wants us to understand that victory has already been won, that strength and might and power is already in Jesus Christ. And if you have Jesus, all you have to do is walk in. [01:13:17]
So in this war, why don't we need the whole armor of God?He gives the purpose statement in the same verse, when he says, so that purpose statement, you will be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. You understand that the devil has schemes and tactics. [01:20:19]
If you don't have a proper perspective of who your enemy is, you will shoot at the wrong target. You see, whenever the military, whenever they prepare for war, one of the first tasks is to get to know their enemy. They identify their strengths and weaknesses. They study their behavior and recognize their tactics and they do all these things. In law enforcement, they call this the case fight. And they try to identify the target's MO, his lowest operandum, will just love it, as if they do it, prepare for war. In physical war, God has prepared us for spiritual war. [01:22:30]
That means that while we cannot see it down here, Satan is plotting out there. And I don't know about you, but if I know that somebody is plotting over my family, I'm not just going to let you plot. I'm not going to let you scheme in town. I'm not going to just let you come around my house and we're not going to do nothing. But if I know somebody is plotting over my house, if I know somebody is plotting over my children, if I know somebody is plotting over my children, if I know somebody is plotting over my life, I'm pouring through the tide of that dance with me to roar. I'm not going to let you stop. You're not going to let you come around my house. You're not going to let me come back. You're not going to fall on my family. You better sleep attack with me because he can walk. I just need to walk. [01:25:25]
He wants us to understand that this idea of heavenly places, that although we are not present here in heaven and since we are, he wants us to know that as these things are happening in heavenly places, don't forget that you've got an ally who's also in heavenly places. You've got to stop loving people, let's hear it go, let's talk about that, what's happening? He wants to understand that.So we call it an inclusio, that means he starts with an idea of heavenly question. He then is the book, so he gives the book in with every question. He is the book in with every question. He wants us to see that God is working for us on behalf of a place that we're not already in. He wants us to understand that God is fighting on our behalf and that victory has put it already on. Now we have to just walk in. [01:26:15]
An evil day is this, is this opportune word, it's a word that means that really, that any day you wake up can be an evil day. He is right, because Satan could have been caught on your Monday, it's Sunday now, but Satan can be caught in the heavens to prepare to try to destroy your fate on Monday. So any day of your life can be possibly an evil day, and the only way you can withstand or resist it is if you put on the whole armor of God, and you know who your enemy is. [01:28:32]
Spiritual warfare is real. And it's really one of the most overrated and underrated concepts in Christianity. Here's why. It's overrated because you might not have gas in your car, and you get in the car and say, hey, nobody but the duck.My wife can't be out of here. You do it. It definitely doesn't mean. Soone of the most overrated because we won't make anything and everything, you know, so it works. But then, it's one of the most overratedmake trials with your wives before the Lord and before men, and you love this one with all your heart, you're sick, you're sick, you're sick, you're sick, you're sick.over marriage. You didn't know for the spiritual offense. We thought this fight was with flesh and blood. But it's really the enemy that's been fighting trying to diminish your faith in God to fix what's broken in your marriage. You see a lot of marriages end because a lot of people who slain in God have fixed what's been broken. And that's a part of the enemy. So I'm just going to say it's one of those overrated and underrated ideas in Christian faith. But it is real. And I need you to know that if you believe the authority of scripture, you believe that this thing is real, that Satan is plotting on you. That we have an adversary, we have an enemy, who Bible says that he is the father of all lies. And the Bible represents us a war in mind seeking to devour us. This thing is real. So it means that the congregation, even in your personal life, we have to declare war against the enemy. [01:30:56]
If you are here today, and you are in this wrestle, if you are here today, and you have not yet changed your wardrobe, and put on Christ, as we listen to the 27th century, and he and you have been baptized in you, Christ, you have put on Christ. We want you to come and put it all in the day, because the only way you're going to be able to fight that danger, the only way you're going to be able to fight this devil, is if you put on a whole arm. [01:34:28]
If you are here in your army of the chapter, and you are struggling with your wrestling, and you're in a spiritual warfare right now, I would encourage you with the words of Paul, finally, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his mind. This too shall pass. Whatever you're going through, it's just going to pass. We've been pushed for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Keep the faith. If you're a child of God, keep the faith. And you need to repent, because you've been fighting the wrong enemy. You've been hurting other people. You thought it was between you and your spouse. You and your children. You and that homework. You thought this thing was blessing and love. You need to repent to God. You now realize that it's bigger than me. That something's happening in heaven. You and your servants. And although I'm not there, I have an ally who's fighting all my behalf. And as it's getting here, it has always been war. [01:36:01]
