#BeTheFuel
“Hear this Lifepointe this morning just, you know, by way of honesty, every time every one of us walks into this building on a Sunday morning, we are doing one of those two things. There are those who come in and they extinguish life. They take, they criticize, they complain, they wound with their words, they consume what others have worked for, they throw water on the fire. Where there should be a place of warmth and love, there are Christians who do this. And then there are those who come into churches and they add fuel to the life of the church. They work hard so that they have something to give. They encourage. They strengthen others. They comfort others. They speak words that bring warmth into people's lives. They meet the needs of others. And Paul says that Christians ought to be the second kind and never the first kind.”

#GiveMoreThanTake
“Every morning that we get up and wake up and we step into our world and we go out, we have two pockets. You can't see them. They're invisible, but we all have two pockets. One pocket is a pocket where we look at the world as what can I get from others? What can this person get give to me? What can I get? And we wanna put that in our pocket. The other pocket that's invisible is a pocket where we say, what can I give to others? So we have a pocket that we're gonna take, we're gonna accumulate again, or we're gonna have a pocket where out of that, we're gonna give from our hands. Now again, not just financially, but time and other things, encouraging words to bless other people.”

#WordsBuildNotDemolish
“The hammer is exactly the same. The difference is the hand that holds it and the intention of the one who holds it. Our tongues are much the same as the hammer. Every conversation that we have with people gives us a choice. Am I gonna use my words to demolish or am I going to use my words to build up other people in their faith. Paul says Christians are to use their words like skilled builders, building up faith, building up courage, building up hope and joy in other people.”

#GraceNotMerit
“Who's the great grace giver? God. It's called charis, charis. Grace. And it describes God's giving of himself to those who don't deserve it. So so listen to this. This is a hard one. It's hard for me. Maybe you perfected it and you need to get up here during this section. Sometimes I feel like, gosh, that person does not deserve my gracious words because of what they just said to me. Do you know that the New Testament says that's not how we view things? We are kind and gracious not on the worthiness of someone else. We are kind and gracious because it's the Christian calling upon our lives. Jesus was that way.”

#SpeakToTheNeed
“Paul writes there, we ought to choose words that fit the need in the moment as fits the occasion. Literally in the Greek, it means this, according to the need of the moment, speak words that build other people up. Sometimes people need comfort. Sometimes they need correction. Sometimes they need instruction or wisdom or reminding or celebration. Wise Christians ask this, what does this person need right now in this moment and that's what I want to do. Jesus practiced this. Let me remind us in the four gospels. He spoke differently to grieving sisters outside of the tomb of their brother Lazarus than he did to the frightened disciples. To the proud Pharisees, he spoke differently than broken sinners, to those who are curious seekers. See, here's the deal. Grace meets people where we are and not every person needs the same words and so we need to be aware of what people need and to encourage them.”

#GenerousHandsGraciousWords
“So as we continue this section on what is the new life look like, Paul links two more unique ideas. So we've talked about the Christian life rejects falsehood. The Christian life speaks the truth in love. The Christian life resolves anger before the sun goes down and before it rules the heart. The Christian life resists the devil in his temptation. And last week, we talked about the Christian life is lived in a way that doesn't take anymore, is just a consumer, but the Christian life learns the dignity of honest work in our lives with our hands. So connected with last week are these two, the Christian life gives with generosity and the Christian life speaks grace to build others Grace changes what we do with our hands and grace changes what happens with our mouth. And so let's talk about these in an important way today. So what Paul's going to do is he's going to say this, that the Christian life is marked by generous hands and gracious words, where the Christian life becomes a channel of God's grace in regard to what we give, in regard to what we say.”

#BeABarnabas
“We ought to be about this as there's a guy in the New Testament whose name is Joseph And he was a part of the early church. And when they got really ready to start doing some serving ministry things, he stood out and they changed his name. What did they change his name to? Y'all remember it starts with a b? Barnabas. You know what Barnabas means? Son of encouragement. His life was so impactful, listen to this, among the apostles that they changed his name to, you know, when that guy comes around, everybody just seems to be built up when they are present. There's something about that guy Joseph that he don't need to be called Joseph anymore. He has far surpassed his birth name. He's now godly in such a way that let's call him son of encouragement.”

#LiveFromTheSecondPocket
“First Pocket Life just says this, how can this help me? What can benefit me? What can I receive? What can that person give me Again, it's focused on the self. But Paul says, Christians wake up and out of this other pocket, the second pocket, they ask different questions. Who can I bless today? What can I draw out of this pocket to encourage someone? What time can I give to this person who needs somebody to be present in their life? Who do I know that needs some help financially that I can give something to? Who do I know that's going on a mission trip? And maybe I need to ask them, hey, do you need some help on this mission trip? So the movement of this is to continue for us to see how important it is that we walk in the new man, this new life that we have been given.”
