The greatest adventure any person can embark on is the journey into the presence of God. While physical journeys can be amazing, nothing compares to the experience of encountering the living God. This journey is not about traveling to a specific location but about drawing near to Him in spirit and truth. It is an exciting, interactive experience where He leads us into fresh encounters. We are invited to step into this divine adventure with open hearts, ready to be amazed by what He will do. [26:16]
John 4:23-24 (ESV)
But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.
Reflection: What does the "journey into God’s presence" mean to you personally? Is there a specific way you feel God might be inviting you to engage with Him more deeply this week?
God desires to stretch our capacity for His presence, moving us beyond our comfort and familiar routines. This stretching is an act of His love, designed to deepen our relationship with Him and grow our faith. He often calls us to set aside our personal preferences and comfort to align with His purposes. In doing so, we make room for Him to do a new and deeper work within us. This requires a posture of surrender and a willingness to be led by His Spirit. [33:21]
2 Corinthians 4:7 (ESV)
But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.
Reflection: In what area of your worship or relationship with God have you become comfortable? What might it look like to allow Him to stretch you in that area this week?
Genuine worship is a response to God’s worthiness, not an expression of our personal preference. It moves us from a consumer mindset, where we pick and choose what suits us, to a kingdom mindset, where we seek to honor Him. God has provided a beautiful palette of biblical expressions for us to use in worship. When we respond in obedience to His leading, we release His power and presence in our midst. Our worship becomes a sacrifice of praise, offered freely to Him. [44:27]
Hebrews 13:15 (ESV)
Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.
Reflection: Can you identify a time when you chose personal preference over obedient worship? What is one specific, biblical expression of worship you feel prompted to offer God this week, even if it feels unfamiliar?
True worship often requires a costly offering of ourselves, but it is always worth it. Just as the woman with the alabaster jar poured out her valuable perfume on Jesus, we are called to pour out our lives as an offering to Him. This kind of extravagant worship may seem foolish to the world, but it is precious to God. It involves breaking the jar of our lives so the fragrance of Christ can be released. The cost is great, but the reward of His presence and approval is greater. [47:46]
Mark 14:6 (ESV)
But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.”
Reflection: What is the most valuable thing—your time, comfort, reputation, or resources—that God might be asking you to pour out as an offering to Him right now?
Our worship should not be confined to a church service but must become a cultivated lifestyle. This means creating space to recognize God’s presence and respond to Him throughout our daily lives. It is a choice to praise Him regardless of our circumstances, remembering the ultimate price He paid to make our worship possible. As we cultivate this heart of worship, we become vessels through which His glory is radiated to a world in need. [01:12:31]
1 Peter 2:9 (ESV)
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
Reflection: What does "cultivating worship" in your daily routine look like? What is one practical step you can take this week to create more space for acknowledging God's presence in your everyday life?
The journey into the presence of God unfolds as an adventure more compelling than any physical trip: a daily invitation to step from the bank into a living river that brings life, healing, and transformation. Worship appears as a palette of expressions—celebration, coronation, lament, silence—each pathway a legitimate, Spirit-led route into encounter. Biblical scenes anchor the call: shepherds and magi who traveled long distances to witness divine arrival illustrate the hunger to see God; the woman at the well points to worship “in spirit and truth” as location-independent and life-giving; and the woman who anointed Jesus models costly, lavish devotion that anticipates sacrifice and burial.
Worship functions as both an encounter and a refining process. The Spirit leads congregations into varied postures so that corporate worship never becomes predictable; when people yield to those promptings, the atmosphere shifts and deeper work begins. Consumer habits—treating worship like a menu chosen by personal preference—diffuse that power. Instead, obedience to the Spirit’s nudges, even when uncomfortable, enlarges capacity for God’s presence and moves personal taste toward kingdom purpose.
A recurring image frames the response: jars of clay holding a treasure. Breaking the jar releases fragrance—Christ expressed through broken, available lives. Sacrificial worship costs something tangible, but that cost unlocks God’s intervention and bears witness to a world that needs tangible demonstrations of devotion. The cross makes bold access possible; the journey into God’s presence flows from costly grace already paid.
The talk closes with two piercing questions: does one know God personally, and is one ready to enter the journey that amazes, stretches, and costs? The answer requires a posture of surrender—lifting hands, stepping into the flow, and offering life as worship. The promise is clear: the journey reshapes character, releases fragrance, and prepares people and nations for a greater move of God.
God is more concerned with our growth than our comfort every time. Now God doesn't want us to be miserable, but sometimes we make ourselves miserable because we don't obey the promptings of the spirit of God. God wants to grow us, and it's gonna require a little bit of stretching. And listen. God's preferences or our preferences. Sorry. Our preferences should never override his purposes. My preference should never override his purpose. If that's what's happening, friend, we are leaning into consumerism, and we're not leaning into his kingdom purpose.

Friend, the journey of a lifetime is costly, but it's worth it because it changes us. It changes us for the better. And not just us, but it changes those around us. There's a world out there that needs to be reached, but they're not going to be reached if we're harboring our treasure on the inside. They're gonna be reached when we choose to radiate the substance of Christ. When we choose to radiate worship. Right? That woman gave Jesus everything she had. She was willing to spend herself on her master.
