Romans 8 starts the whole story with a rock solid word, nothing in all creation can separate God’s children from the love of God in Christ Jesus. God stays faithful even when a person starts running, acting like a knucklehead, and drifting from the One who never moved. The whole story becomes, “my story is my story, but it’s His glory.”

Childhood faith begins in a Christian home, full of church, Royal Rangers, big family, cousins, carne asada, outdoors, and the joy of the Lord. A young heart remembers the first deep confidence of belonging to God, that simple but powerful knowing, “I am a son of God. He is my Father.” That early foundation did not disappear when life got hard.

Middle school brings bullying, loneliness, anger, and a painful distance from a father who had once been present. Validation starts getting hunted in the wrong places, especially when the places that mattered most felt empty. The wrong crowd, trash music, cutting culture, drinking, drugs, and curiosity about satanic things all become part of a downward drift. Yet God’s reality stays buried deep in the heart, even while the mouth says, “I’m an atheist.”

A mother’s prayer stands in the middle of that mess. The prayer of a righteous person availeth much, and God begins drawing what had wandered. The Ouija board moment exposes a dark oppression that makes ordinary anger feel tiny, and fear becomes one of the ways God wakes up a hardened heart.

Easter 2010 becomes the turning point. A forced trip to Mission Ebenezer, a resurrection call, and memories of childhood joy bring the heart face to face with Jesus again. The Holy Spirit does not need a movie voice to speak. The soul simply knows, “He is the source. He is the fountain of life. He is those rivers of living water.” Pride keeps the hand down, but the heart raises it and says, “Lord, I’m sorry. I need to come back.”

Repentance becomes practical. Posters come down, hair gets cut, bad music gets thrown away, and prayer starts again. David’s cry, “Restore to me the joy of your salvation,” becomes real as the joy of the Lord returns and a fire gets lit. God turns a drifting kid into someone plugged into church, trained in Scripture, graduating in theology, studying in seminary, and giving God all the credit.

The charge to families is plain, no amount of money can buy a second of time. Children need presence, prayer, worship, and the steady instruction of God’s ways. Creation itself also testifies that God is big, beautiful, and real. The stars, mountains, sunsets, and even science all point back to the Creator who authored everything.
