Enduring Love and True Godliness in Challenging Times
Devotional
Day 1: Enduring Love in Trials
In the face of inevitable trials and tribulations, our calling is to endure in love. This means being rooted and grounded in Christ's love, unaffected by the behavior of others, and maintaining a fervent love for Jesus and people, regardless of circumstances. The essence of our faith is not in avoiding trials but in enduring them with love and steadfastness. The church is not immune to spiritual decline, as seen in the example of the Ephesian church, which, despite its strong foundation, lost its first love over time. This serves as a warning to us to maintain our fervent love for Christ and others, ensuring that our faith is not just a formality but a living, vibrant relationship with God. [03:43]
"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." (James 1:2-4, ESV)
Reflection: Think of a recent trial you faced. How can you choose to respond with love and steadfastness in a similar situation today?
Day 2: The Mystery of Godliness
True godliness is a mystery revealed to those who walk in humility and the fear of the Lord. It is not about external rituals but about living a life that reflects Christ's purity and love, empowered by the Holy Spirit. The mystery of godliness is another profound truth. It is not about external rituals or ascetic practices but about living a life that reflects Christ's purity and love. This mystery is accessible to those who walk in humility and the fear of the Lord. The power of godliness comes from the Holy Spirit, enabling us to live a life that pleases God, free from the love of money, self, and pleasure. [22:00]
"Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory." (1 Timothy 3:16, ESV)
Reflection: In what ways can you seek to live out the mystery of godliness in your daily life, focusing on humility and the fear of the Lord?
Day 3: The Power of Genuine Faith
In the last days, many will have a form of godliness but deny its power. This is a call to ensure that our faith is not just a doctrine but a transformative force in our lives, driven by the Holy Spirit. We must be wary of teachings that deviate from the truth of the gospel and focus on the core of our faith: taking up our cross daily and following Jesus. The danger of form without power is real, and it is crucial to examine our lives to ensure that our faith is genuine and transformative. [32:34]
"But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people." (2 Timothy 3:1-5, ESV)
Reflection: Reflect on your faith journey. Are there areas where you have settled for a form of godliness without its transformative power? How can you invite the Holy Spirit to bring genuine transformation?
Day 4: The Role of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is essential in our journey of faith, enabling us to put the flesh to death and live a life that pleases God. This involves a daily commitment to take up our cross and follow Jesus. The power of godliness comes from the Holy Spirit, enabling us to live a life that pleases God, free from the love of money, self, and pleasure. The Holy Spirit empowers us to live a life that reflects Christ's purity and love, and it is through His power that we can overcome the desires of the flesh. [32:13]
"But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do." (Galatians 5:16-17, ESV)
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you need the Holy Spirit's help to overcome the desires of the flesh? How can you invite Him to empower you today?
Day 5: Building a Personal Connection with God
The decay in many movements comes from knowing doctrines rather than having a personal relationship with God. Our focus should be on maintaining a direct connection with God, allowing Him to reveal His truths and transform our lives. [51:13]
"Thus says the Lord: 'Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.'" (Jeremiah 9:23-24, ESV)
Reflection: How can you deepen your personal relationship with God today, moving beyond mere knowledge of doctrines to a vibrant, living connection with Him?
Sermon Summary
In these challenging times, it's crucial to understand the biblical perspective on the last days. Many passages in the New Testament, such as Matthew 24, highlight the inevitability of deception, wars, and tribulations. Jesus warned us not to be deceived by those who come in His name but lead many astray. We cannot pray against these events, as they are part of God's sovereign plan. Instead, our focus should be on enduring in love and remaining rooted in Christ, regardless of the circumstances around us.

Sermon Clips
In prayer for a particular situation, that God's people will be protected, that's okay. They will deliver you to tribulation. We can't pray there should be no tribulation, and they will kill you. We can't pray that they won't kill us. We can pray for protection for ourselves. [00:02:07]
I have come to see that I don't expect the church where everybody is spiritual. It wasn't there true in the days of the apostles, and it's never going to be true. It's to live in a world of illusion to think that we are finally going to build a church where everybody will be spiritual. [00:02:59]
It is enduring in love until the end. That means I must not allow anything to prevent me from, as it says in Ephesians 3, from being rooted and grounded love. I, in relation to that verse, I've often said that should be a permanent address. We're never gonna shift from that home. [00:03:30]
Paul warned him about that also before he left. In Acts 20, you read that he called the elders and said, "I know what's going to happen when I leave. I sense that the wolves are raining outside. They're just waiting to come in. They could not come in as long as I was here." [00:06:36]
The mystery of godliness is a new covenant word, not found in the Old Testament. Closest to it in Psalm 25:14, where it says, "The secrets of the Lord, that's a mystery, he's with those who fear him." So, I can know this mystery if I have reverence for God. [00:21:10]
The way to live a godly life is not an easy matter, but the answer lies in Christ, who came to earth as a man, who was pure in his spirit. How could a man be pure in his spirit through the flesh like ours? By flesh, I mean a self-will like ours. [00:25:57]
The Holy Spirit clearly says that in the last days, some, I think it will be many, will fall away from this faith. Which faith? This secret of a godly life. They will teach other methods of living a godly life, such as don't get married, be a monk, be a nun. [00:28:44]
There is no way to come to a godly life without one taking up the cross, bar of daily death, and being filled with the Holy Spirit, genuine fullness of the Holy Spirit. The fullness of the Holy Spirit that enables us to put the flesh to death. [00:32:13]
The form of godliness is the great danger in the last days. It's going to be very difficult to be a Christian in the last days because around us will be numerous people who speak new covenant words, the form, the doctrine of godliness. [00:39:22]
Decay comes when we know a doctrine, your wonderful relationship with some elder or leader, don't have that personal connection with God. The conscience says it is, gives us revelation on his word, frees us from the love of money and the love of pleasure. [00:51:13]
The purpose of the Holy Spirit is to show us the glory of Jesus more and more in scripture, transform us into that likeness. But if we pursue that in our personal life, my dear brothers, you will be the most effective and useful brother in the church. [00:54:02]
Tell me how Jesus took up the cross every day. I want to go that way and see Jesus at the right hand of the throne of God, always ready to support me, help me, answer my prayers, never in a single moment of my life have any bitterness towards anyone. [00:56:06]
