Moses shows what enduring faith looks like when life puts the treasures of Egypt on one side and the treasures of heaven on the other. Hebrews 11 says that, by faith, Moses refused to be known as Pharaoh’s daughter’s son, choosing mistreatment with God’s people over the fleeting pleasures of sin. Faith rejects the world when the world tries to take God’s place. Egypt had money, power, comfort, and a future all laid out for Moses, but none of it could define him once God’s values took hold.
The contrast between this short life and eternity puts the world in perspective. The world says a better job, more money, or an easier path must be worth whatever it costs. Faith says that anything pulling a person away from God is too expensive. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. Faith does not mean refusing every good thing in the world. Faith means putting God first when good things become rival gods.
Moses also shows faith that sees the invisible God. Before the burning bush, Moses had family tradition and the truth handed down through God’s people. That foundation mattered. Parents and older believers create something solid when their lives show the next generation that God does not change, even while everything else keeps shifting around.
The burning bush became a game-changing moment because God called Moses by name. God saw a shepherd trying to stay hidden in the wilderness, and God said, “Moses, Moses.” Moses answered, “Here I am.” God knows each person that personally. God’s fingerprints are all over creation, from the desert mountains and sunsets to the smallest hummingbird, and God has spoken clearly through His written Word. Faith slows down long enough to look, to seek, and to be still.
The Passover shows that Moses trusted God’s plan even when death was coming through Egypt. The blood of a spotless lamb on the doorpost caused death to pass over God’s people. Jesus, the spotless Lamb of God, put His blood on the cross so spiritual death could pass over for good. Moses points ahead to Christ, who brings people out of bondage, not merely from physical slavery but from sin itself. Hebrews 12 calls believers to throw off what hinders, run with perseverance, and fix their eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

Key Takeaways
- 1. Faith puts heaven before worldly treasure Moses had every reason to stay in Egypt, but Egypt could not give him what God promised. Wealth and comfort are not evil, yet they become dangerous when they replace obedience, worship, fellowship, or service. Faith sees that the world’s best offers are fleeting, while God’s reward lasts forever. [48:42]
- 2. Faith sees God beyond visible proof Moses trusted the God he had not yet met face to face because God’s truth had been handed down through faithful people. God still makes Himself known through creation, through Scripture, and through lives built on His unchanging character. Faith looks long enough to notice that God has been calling all along. [59:41]
- 3. God knows and calls people personally God did not call out to an anonymous shepherd in Midian. God called, “Moses, Moses,” showing that His knowledge is not distant or generic. God sees the person trying to hide, the person convinced life is winding down, and the person who thinks the best years are gone. [55:24]
- 4. Christ’s blood defeats spiritual death The Passover lamb was never the final answer. The blood on the doorpost pointed ahead to Jesus, the spotless Lamb whose blood on the cross brings lasting deliverance. God’s rescue is not earned by human effort but received by trusting the sacrifice He provided. [66:38]
- 5. Faith keeps eyes fixed on Jesus Faith gets tested, gets messy, and can feel scary, but it grows stronger by looking to Christ rather than to circumstances. Hebrews 12 does not call believers to manufacture strength from within. Jesus is the pioneer and perfecter of faith, and He carries the race forward.
