Day 1: Walking with God Until the Sudden Departure

Enoch’s life teaches that walking with God isn’t a vague spiritual idea but a daily rhythm of trust. For 365 years, he chose closeness with the invisible God, not knowing when his journey would end abruptly. His story reminds us that faithfulness isn’t about dramatic moments but steady companionship. Like Enoch, we’re invited to talk openly, wrestle honestly, and trust deeply—even when life feels ordinary. The reward isn’t escape from hardship but the joy of being known by God. One day, Enoch simply stepped into eternity because God wanted him near. [46:43]

When Enoch had lived 65 years, he fathered Methuselah. Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days of Enoch were 365 years. Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.

Day 3: Believing the Invisible God Sees You

Enoch’s neighbors likely mocked his conversations with an unseen God. Yet he kept walking, trusting the Creator’s reality more than others’ opinions. Faith begins here: believing God exists and cares about the details of your story. This isn’t blind optimism but choosing to live as though the One who hung stars also notices your tears, hears your whispers, and walks beside you through every shadowed valley. [59:48]

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

Day 4: Running the Race with Eyes on the Champion

The Christian life isn’t a leisurely stroll but a endurance race with obstacles. Like a marathoner shedding heavy gear, we must drop sin and distractions that slow us down. But the secret isn’t willpower—it’s fixing our gaze on Jesus, who both starts and finishes our faith. He ran His race through crucifixion’s pain to resurrection joy, proving every step with Him leads to victory. [43:29]

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Day 5: Fearless Love in the Shadow of Judgment

Enoch walked so closely with God that judgment day held no terror. Intimacy displaces fear—when we truly grasp God’s love, we stop seeing Him as a harsh judge waiting to punish. Like a child confident in their parent’s embrace, we can face eternity unafraid. This security comes not from perfection but from daily returning to the One whose perfect love covers every failure. By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.

Sermon Summary

Faith is not just rainbows and sunshine, and it is not just David and Goliath right around the corner. Faith shows up when discouragement hits, when anxiety and depression press in, when a relationship turns bad, or when a hospital bed and a cancer diagnosis make the future feel like it is falling apart. Hebrews 11 gives real men and women, not untouchable heroes, whose lives were full of struggle and weakness, yet whose faith endured because God was with them.

Hebrews 12 says that the point of those witnesses is endurance. The text calls God’s people to strip off every weight, especially the sin that so easily tangles a person up, and to run the race God has set before them. Jesus stands at the center of that race. Jesus initiates faith because he lived the perfect human life, freed sinners from sin and death, and became the foundation of everything faith rests on. Jesus also perfects faith, which means the journey is not all up to a person to figure out alone. Jesus walks like a good shepherd, helping faith grow strong until the end.

Enoch gives a simple but powerful picture of what enduring faith looks like. Hebrews says Enoch pleased God, and Genesis says he walked in close fellowship with God for three hundred years. God looked at this man who walked with him and simply took him. Enoch did not die. He disappeared because God wanted him home.

Genesis shows that close fellowship with God was not a new idea that began later. Right near the start of Scripture, after sin had already entered the world, God’s desire was still for people to walk with him. Walking with God means God is close, not far off somewhere. When a person walks with someone, there is honesty, nearness, opening up of the heart, frustration sometimes, comfort sometimes, and guidance along the way.

Brother Lawrence’s life gives a picture of that same truth. Whether dishes were being washed in a nasty kitchen or songs were being sung in a chapel, God’s presence was the same place to live. God does not want to be treated like someone way up ahead who only gets called when something is needed. Through Jesus Christ, the slate is clean, fear of judgment gives way to loving fellowship, and perfect love casts out fear. Enoch’s life says the invitation is not complicated: walk with God, seek him sincerely, and trust that he rewards those who come to him.
