1. "The Christian life and ministry is like a fight and a race that requires endurance and faithfulness lived out with Christian community and it includes the promise of eternal rewards. The Christian life that you and I are now living, ministry that we are now engaging in, is like a fight. It's like a race and it requires endurance and faithfulness." 2. "Paul was a man who was faithful and he finished well. He not only started strong, preaching boldly, his fire didn't fizzle out after a series of trials. He had a season of zeal, evangelistic and missionary zeal. He continued to walk with the Lord through many persecutions. He had been imprisoned a number of times. He had been beaten. He had been stoned. He had gone through so much difficulty." [08:11] (31 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

3. "Paul saw himself and lived as a living sacrifice as he exhorted in Romans chapter 12, verse one, he was a living sacrifice in light of Jesus, who was the ultimate sacrifice and the only atoning sacrifice, the one who takes away the sin of the world, the who took up his cross, went to the grave and was resurrected from the dead. So Paul too was bearing his cross and he was presenting his life as a living sacrifice to the Lord." [10:57] (34 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

4. "Paul knew that it was by God's grace that he did what he did, that he was who he was and he did what he did. He was dependent upon grace. He exhorted young Timothy to be strengthened by grace in second Timothy chapter two, verse one, be strengthened by grace. And Paul experienced that in his walk, in his life and ministry, he was strengthened by grace. He was strengthened by God's presence, by God's power, his strength that's made perfect." 5. "Paul says he finished the race. The Christian life and ministry is like a fight and it's like a race. It requires endurance. You're going to get hit in the face. You're going to get knocked down. You're going to stumble. Get back up. Don't quit. Take it in the chin and keep on going. Be strong in the Lord and the power of his might. Finishing strong doesn't ultimately depend on us in our own strength. We are dependent upon God's grace and strength." [21:01] (36 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

6. "Paul knew there was reward. He knew there were these crowns that he wrote about Jesus even mentioned. And so he lived with this hope, this eternal perspective that it's going to be worth it when I see Jesus and I hear him say, well done, good and faithful servant. I'm going to know it was worth it. Every sacrifice, every struggle. It was worth it. Living for the glory of God and for the good of others. It was worth it." [28:31] (35 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

7. "We need Christian community. Even the Apostle Paul, as, as spiritual as he was, as godly as he was, as devoted as he was, as much as he experienced the presence of God, Jesus being with him, he needed people. He needed friends. He needed relationships. And so do you and I. And it is prideful to think, that we can live the Christian life, without Christian community. We need one another. We're made, we're created for community." [43:22] (37 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

8. "Paul had some human needs, for relationships. He also had human needs, for spiritual nourishment. And so, he says, hey, Timothy, bring my cloak. He had physical needs, too. He needed to be, kept warm. Especially, as the Lord, winter was coming, and that cell, the, maritime, Roman cell, is where it's, he believed that he was. Bring my cloak. Okay, there's just a simplicity. I love that. I mean, couldn't he have got a cloak, from somewhere else? Timothy, bring my cloak." [47:05] (37 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

9. "God's presence, power, and promise, enables us, to finish well. God's presence, power, his promise, and his power, enable us, to finish well. Everyone else, deserted me, on my first trial, that I went through, and by the way, Paul's testifying, in Rome. The world power, of the day. Like, he preached the gospel, all around, and he made it to Rome. And, he's testifying, of the good news, of Jesus, boldly. Other folks, are bailing out. But, he's bold, with God's help, he says, but the Lord, stood by me, and he strengthened me." [53:07] (43 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

10. "We need help to run the race well. fight a good fight of faith. God, there are so many distractions that you know. So many temptations and so many trials and so many things that we're not even aware of that are against us or that hold us back. Would you shine your light? Disperse the darkness and the doubt. Break the spiritual strongholds in our life. May we lay aside every weight and sin that so easily ensnares us and may we run the race that's set before us."
