“The church exists to embody God's kingdom, not human systems of power. Bold, spirit-led leadership transforms lives, dismantles injustice, and reveals to the world who Christ really is. We live in an age when authoritarianism and political violence threaten the foundations of democracy and human dignity. We are seeing how systems designed to protect and serve the common good can so easily fail when justice and moral courage is set aside, when expediency and greed prevail, and when privilege and wealth are placed above the needs of the vulnerable.”
“Through all these challenges, she said, United Methodists are seeking to live into the denomination's new vision that the bishops unveiled in May. That vision calls United Methodists to love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously. Malone and other bishops denounced those who instead seek to use God's Jesus name to justify hate and division. The gospel we proclaim, she said, is not neutral. It is good news for the poor, release for the captive, sight for the blind, and freedom for those who are oppressed.”
“As bishops of the United Methodist Church, let us declare Christian nationalism is not Christianity. It misrepresents who Christ is and betrays the gospel's core message of love, humility, and justice. Bishop Malone acknowledged that United Methodists are living and leading in challenging times. But she added, "Disciplehip and transformation happen not through the size of the church, but through through faithfulness and surrender to the Holy Spirit."”
“She said, "Our hope is not in perfect plans, agendas, systems, and structure, but in the risen Christ, who continues to make all things new."”
“So, in our lectionary readings, we're trying to bring in a bunch of the books from the Old Testament that we don't we don't often read from. So, today is a reading from the book of Hegi. Now, in this book, the people have returned from exile. The Israelite people have returned from exile and they're rebuilding the temple that had been destroyed when they were taken into exile. It doesn't look as magnificent as the former one. And so people are a little dishearted and disenchanted.”
“So God is speaking through Hegi. How many of you remember the good old days? Does this new temple hold a candle to the previous one? Buck up. Hold your head up. Everyone keep working. You have nothing to fear. I am here with you. Won't always by be like this. I will bring resources, treasure from far away lands, and in its final form, the holy house will be even better than the one Solomon built. So that's the the sum of what he is saying.”
“Yet take courage, O Zerubbabel, says the Lord. Take courage, oh Joshua, son of Jehosedac, the high priest. Take courage, all you people of the land, says the Lord. Work, for I am with you, says the Lord of hosts, according to the promise that I made you when you came out of Egypt. My spirit abides among you. Do not fear.”
“For thus says the Lord of hosts, once again in a little while I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land. And I will shake all the nations so that the treasure of all nations will come. And I will fill this house with splendor, says the Lord of hosts. The silver is mine and the gold is mine, says the Lord of Hosts. The latter splendor of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of Hosts. And in this place, I will give prosperity, says the Lord of Hosts.”
“The people at the church at Thessalonica were concerned about whether they were seeing endtime things. They're worried about a religious apocalypse where the universe hangs in the balance. We probably don't worry about that particular problem, but we have potentially worldending issues in the news from ecological disaster, AI threats, economic collapse, nuclear warfare. But even if Paul had such extinct level threats like we have in our time, I think he would have given the same advice.”
“Thank God for generous salvation and don't worry about things above your security clearance. This mentality is not about being passive. It is about living and acting like God is good and God is great.”
“You need to know friends that thanking God over and over for you is not only a pleasure, it's a must. We have to do it. Your faith is growing phenomenally. Your love for each other is developing wonderfully. Why? It's only right that we give thanks. We're so proud of you. You're so steady and determined in your faith despite all the hard times that have broadsided you. We tell everyone we meet in the churches all about you.”
“All this trouble is a clear sign that God has decided to make you fit for the kingdom. You're suffering now, but justice is on the way. When the Master Jesus appears out of heaven in a blaze of fire with his strong angels, he'll even up the score by settling accounts with those who gave you such a bad time. His coming will be the break we've been waiting for.”
“Because we know that this extraordinary extraordinary day is just ahead. We pray for you all the time. Pray that our God will make you fit for what God's called you to be. Pray that God will fill your good ideas and acts of faith with God's own energy so that it all amounts to something. If your life honors the name of Jesus, he will honor you. Graces behind and through all of this are God giving of self freely. the master Jesus Christ giving himself freely.”
“Why should we fear God of compassion? You choose us to be bearers of grace and justice to a broken world. You call us to be words of hope and joy to people deafened by despair. We extol you. Why should we feel fear, brother of justice? You call us to follow you so we may serve all who have been abandoned by a society focused on self. You model kindness so that we might bring healing to a fractured culture. We will bless you.”
“When we run around in circles, you fill us with your peace. When we stumble through each day, you energize us with your hope. When our spirits are empty, you come and dwell in us. We will praise you.”
