Empowering Potential Through Faith and Community

Summary

### Summary

Today, we focused on the theme of "Protecting Your Potential." We began by discussing the importance of supporting the various ministries within our church, emphasizing that every member has a role to play in the church's mission. We also celebrated the renaming of Highway 51 in honor of our community service efforts, highlighting the importance of our street cleaning ministry and the opportunities it provides for our youth to earn community service hours.

Our scripture reading came from Ephesians 6:10-18, which speaks about putting on the whole armor of God to stand against the wiles of the devil. This passage set the stage for our main topic: the spiritual warfare we face and the necessity of protecting the potential God has placed within us. We explored how our potential is not just for personal gain but for kingdom building, to win souls for Christ and to encourage others.

We delved into the concept of spiritual warfare, explaining that our true enemy is not flesh and blood but principalities and powers in high places. The devil seeks to destroy our potential by sowing doubt, fear, and discouragement. However, God has equipped us with spiritual armor to protect ourselves and to stand firm in our faith. We must recognize that our potential is a gift from God, meant to be used for His glory and to impact the lives of others positively.

We also discussed the importance of knowing the truth and righteousness, as Satan is a master of lies. By grounding ourselves in God's Word and His promises, we can resist the devil's attempts to derail us. Additionally, we must be mindful of the people we allow into our lives, as not everyone is meant to stay with us on our journey. Some are there for a season, and we must discern who to keep and who to let go.

In conclusion, we were reminded that God has a plan for each of us, and our potential is a crucial part of that plan. By protecting our potential and staying grounded in our faith, we can achieve great things for the kingdom of God.

### Key Takeaways

1. Support and Community Involvement: Every ministry in the church belongs to the church, and as members, we must support these ministries. This includes participating in community service activities like the street cleaning ministry, which not only benefits the community but also provides opportunities for our youth to earn community service hours. [05:17]

2. Spiritual Warfare and Armor of God: Our true enemy is not flesh and blood but spiritual forces of evil. Ephesians 6:10-18 reminds us to put on the whole armor of God to stand against these forces. This spiritual armor includes truth, righteousness, faith, and the Word of God, which protect us and enable us to stand firm in our faith. [19:26]

3. Recognizing and Utilizing Potential: God has placed immense potential within each of us, not for personal gain but for kingdom building. This potential can win souls for Christ and encourage others. We must not let it lie dormant but actively seek to use it for God's glory. [23:09]

4. Discernment in Relationships: Not everyone in our lives is meant to stay with us on our journey. Some people are there for a season, and we must discern who to keep and who to let go. This discernment helps us protect our potential and stay focused on God's plan for us. [45:15]

5. Faith and Perseverance: Faith brings great blessings but also great suffering. God calls us to commitment, not comfort. We must be willing to endure trials and challenges, knowing that God is with us and will bring us through every situation. Our faith in God will lead to success and fulfillment of our potential. Devotional

Day 1: The Power of Community Involvement
Description: Supporting the various ministries within the church is crucial for the church's mission. Every member has a role to play, and their involvement can significantly impact the community. The street cleaning ministry, for example, not only beautifies the neighborhood but also provides opportunities for the youth to earn community service hours. This collective effort demonstrates the church's commitment to serving others and fostering a sense of unity and purpose among its members. [05:17]

Bible passage: "And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." (Hebrews 10:24-25 ESV)

Reflection: How can you actively support a ministry in your church this week, and what impact do you think it will have on your community?

Day 2: Equipping Yourself for Spiritual Warfare
Description: Spiritual warfare is a reality that every believer must face. Our true enemy is not flesh and blood but spiritual forces of evil. Ephesians 6:10-18 reminds us to put on the whole armor of God to stand against these forces. This spiritual armor includes truth, righteousness, faith, and the Word of God, which protect us and enable us to stand firm in our faith. By grounding ourselves in God's Word and His promises, we can resist the devil's attempts to derail us. [19:26]

Bible passage: "For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds." (2 Corinthians 10:3-4 ESV)

Reflection: What specific piece of the armor of God do you need to focus on strengthening in your life right now, and how can you do that practically?

Day 3: Recognizing and Utilizing Your God-Given Potential
Description: God has placed immense potential within each of us, not for personal gain but for kingdom building. This potential can win souls for Christ and encourage others. We must not let it lie dormant but actively seek to use it for God's glory. Recognizing our potential involves understanding that it is a gift from God, meant to be used to positively impact the lives of others and to further His kingdom. [23:09]

Bible passage: "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ." (1 Peter 4:10-11 ESV)

Reflection: What unique potential or gift has God placed within you, and how can you start using it to serve others and glorify God this week?

Day 4: Discernment in Relationships
Description: Not everyone in our lives is meant to stay with us on our journey. Some people are there for a season, and we must discern who to keep and who to let go. This discernment helps us protect our potential and stay focused on God's plan for us. By being mindful of the people we allow into our lives, we can ensure that we are surrounded by those who encourage and support our spiritual growth. [45:15]

Bible passage: "Do not be deceived: 'Bad company ruins good morals.' Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame." (1 Corinthians 15:33-34 ESV)

Reflection: Is there a relationship in your life that may be hindering your spiritual growth? How can you seek God's guidance in discerning whether to continue or let go of this relationship?

Day 5: Faith and Perseverance Through Trials
Description: Faith brings great blessings but also great suffering. God calls us to commitment, not comfort. We must be willing to endure trials and challenges, knowing that God is with us and will bring us through every situation. Our faith in God will lead to success and fulfillment of our potential. By persevering through difficulties, we can grow stronger in our faith and more aligned with God's purpose for our lives. [42:33]

Bible passage: "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." (James 1:2-4 ESV)

Reflection: What current trial or challenge are you facing, and how can you trust God to help you persevere and grow through it?

Quotes

1. "Your potential is worth way more than a million dollars. It has the ability to win souls for Christ. It has the ability to encourage people who may be at a place where they just don't want to go on any further. Your potential has the ability to change someone's life who are struggling with their identity in Christianity. You may be on a job someplace where people don't even want to talk about God, but your potential is worth way more than a million dollars." 2. "Because God didn't place you here on this earth just to take up space, but he wants to use you as a kingdom builder to draw someone closer to him. Today, we're going to close this out by with a subject, protecting your potential. Protecting your potential. Can you turn me down just a little bit? Because if you don't protect it, the enemy will come against it. And as we just learned, we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers in high places." 3. "You got to quit getting mad with folk and start getting mad with your real enemy, the one who wants to destroy you. And if I told you that today there's a war going on in this world and it's a conflict that is wrecking havoc on people, killing people, everywhere, injuring people everywhere, taking innocent children off the street and destroying them. People are even being so bold as to go into the house of God and bring a gun to shoot somebody." [24:39] (32 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

4. "But what's even worse than that? They come into the house of God with the power of that tongue that's going to destroy God's people because no one took the time to get grounded enough in the word that you will not be moved by people. People's tongue. Countless lives have been lost in a battle like this because what's worse than actually pulling a gun and shooting somebody is when you neglect to share with them the very truth of the word of God that will cause them to get saved and they end up going to hell because you didn't allow your potential to be used in the place God placed you." [25:10] (42 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

5. "And there's no way you can consider yourself a born again, blood bought, raised from the dead Christian and not expect to have to battle to protect who you are every single day of your life because Satan desires to sift you like wheat and without Jesus praying for you and without you hiding behind the shield of faith, he will succeed. This war didn't just begin, by the way, this war started." [26:23] (29 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

6. "The devil tempted Jesus. He wanted to see if he could keep him from going to his destination and fulfilling the potential that God had put in him to save the lives of every single person on this earth. The devil tempted him in the wilderness. And when that didn't work, the battle intensified. How many of you understand that when you begin to exercise your potential, when you begin to step out on the things God has placed in you, the battle with Satan is going to intensify. Just because. You get saved doesn't mean you quit fighting. It means the battle just begun." [27:00] (40 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

7. "The situation is clearly described in Paul. In the scriptures we just read. Think about this. Paul says we struggle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers and rulers and authorities in high places. What does that mean? That means Satan has the power and ability to go anywhere in this world he wants to go. And he got enough little demons running around with him. He can assign them to any of us at any time. The good news is God has already assigned us a keeper." [28:51] (32 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

8. "Faith produces success because we serve a God that cannot fail. Take your potential, wrap it up in a mission and a purpose and a ministry. And you're going to see God doing things in your life that you couldn't even imagine. Your mind couldn't even begin to think about what God is doing or going to do for you. Because God will fight battles. And what's even better for it? God's going to. Fight battles you will never know anything about. You will never know that the devil asked for you this morning. But God said, no, you'll never know that when you was on your way to work this morning, two cars ran into each other, but they missed you." 9. "Keep it real. You have to know truth and you have to know righteousness because Satan is a liar. He will lie to you every single time you have a conversation with him. Satan will get you to start lying to yourself if you're not comfortable and careful. Satan will make you start thinking that what God has brought you to is too much for you. And you don't belong where you are in this season. God didn't put me here because he didn't. He knew I couldn't handle this. If you have to have that opinion of God, you need to change God's." 10. "Faith brings great blessings. But it also brings great. Suffering, too. And just like Paul, we're going to have to suffer for this great faith we have. You don't get this far without being tried, without being tested. But God calls you to commitment and not comfort. Write that one down. You're not going to always be comfortable doing what God wants you to do. But know this. Your uncomfortability brings greater rewards. Paul wrote in Romans, he said, for the suffering that we're going through today is not worthy to be compared to what the reward is going to look like."
