The disciples huddled in Jerusalem, obeying Jesus’ final command: “Wait.” Fishermen, tax collectors, and ordinary men who’d seen dead men rise and storms stilled now sat in unresolved tension. Their hands itched to act, but their hearts strained to trust. Jesus had resurrected—why delay the mission? Yet Heaven’s timetable required surrendered timing. The roar of wind would come, but not yet. [46:16]
Jesus knew empowerment precedes assignment. Without the Spirit’s dunamis—miraculous strength—their words would falter, their courage crumble. The same hands that hauled nets would soon heal multitudes, but only after fire reshaped them. God never sends warriors unarmed.
How often do you rush ahead of God’s preparation? What mission have you attempted in your own strength, only to burn out? Where is He asking you to pause, surrender schedules, and let Him purify your motives?
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
(Acts 1:8, ESV)
Prayer: Ask God to reveal areas where you’ve prioritized haste over holiness.
Challenge: Write down one responsibility you’ll surrender to God this week.
Fishermen’s lips burned with unlearned languages as fire rested on each head. Pilgrims from Libya, Crete, and Mesopotamia gaped—these Galileans spoke their dialects flawlessly. Peter, who’d denied Christ hours before crucifixion, now declared Him risen. The Spirit transformed bumbling followers into bold heralds, their words piercing hearts. [47:08]
The Holy Spirit specializes in glorifying Jesus through unlikely vessels. He doesn’t demand eloquence or status—just surrendered mouths. Your testimony, paired with His power, becomes a sword that splits cultural barriers and doubt.
When have you dismissed your voice as too ordinary for God’s use? What fear silences you from speaking His name at work or grocery lines?
“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
(Acts 2:4, ESV)
Prayer: Confess one insecurity that hinders your witness.
Challenge: Share a 30-second testimony with someone today.
Peter hid behind locked doors, flinching at servant girls’ questions. The same Peter later stood before thousands, voice unshaken. The difference? Fire. Not self-improvement or courage mustered through grit—just raw, divine power. The Spirit rewired his fear into ferocity for the gospel. [49:21]
God’s power turns retreat into advance. Your past failures, insecurities, or shame don’t disqualify you—they’re fuel for His glory. The disciples’ scars became megaphones for resurrection.
What failure or insecurity have you let define your potential? How might the Spirit repurpose your weakness into a platform for His strength?
“But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them…”
(Acts 2:14, ESV)
Prayer: Thank God for a past failure and ask Him to redeem it.
Challenge: Identify one situation where you’ll “step forward” this week.
The upper room wasn’t a punishment—it was a pruning. For ten days, disciples prayed, fasted, and forgave betrayals. Unity replaced suspicion; dependency overshadowed self-reliance. God purified their hearts like vessels scrubbed clean for new wine. Only then could Pentecost’s fire ignite them. [37:44]
Surrender prepares us for power. God won’t fill divided hearts or hands clutching sin. What distractions, grudges, or hidden habits block His flow in you?
What “sapling” is God pruning from your life—a toxic relationship, pride, or busyness? Will you trust the Gardener’s knife?
“And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father.”
(Acts 1:4, ESV)
Prayer: Name one attachment you’ll release to God today.
Challenge: Fast from one distraction (social media, TV) for 24 hours.
The 120 waited—not passively, but persistently. They prayed until the walls shook. When the roar of heaven erupted, they didn’t cower. Flames danced on their heads, yet they preached louder. The same room that once held fearful whispers now birthed a revolution. [46:42]
The Spirit still fills ordinary people who pray extraordinary prayers. Your hunger determines your filling. Complacency quenches fire; desperation fuels it.
Does your prayer life reflect casual interest or wildfire hunger? What would change if you sought God’s presence as urgently as air?
“All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer…”
(Acts 1:14, ESV)
Prayer: Beg God for a fresh baptism of boldness.
Challenge: Spend 10 minutes in uninterrupted prayer today.
We gather around a single truth: the Holy Spirit is a person who equips us for the mission God gives. We confess that salvation begins new life, but empowerment supplies the strength to carry that life into the world. We commit to waiting when God asks us to wait, because waiting becomes preparation. We submit our hearts and surrender hidden parts of our lives so God can cleanse and pour into us. We rebuild unity and dependence with one another so the Spirit can move through a gathered people. We refuse to try mission by our own strength; we depend daily on the Spirit to guide, correct, and embolden us. We recognize that the Spirit transforms fear into boldness, turning ordinary, flawed people into public witnesses who speak truth with courage. We accept that preparation precedes pouring: God prepares our vessel through pruning, intimacy, and fellowship before empowering us for greater responsibility. We will not treat the Spirit as entertainment or a show of gifts; we will seek intimacy and holiness so that gifting matures into faithful fruit. We commit to taking steps forward when the Spirit nudges us, trusting that growth follows obedience, not performance. We expect transformation to follow Pentecost-like encounters: where fear once silenced us, the Spirit gives us words; where shame once held us back, the Spirit frees us to testify; where weakness once defined us, the Spirit empowers us to stand. We invite the Spirit to cleanse, fill, and sustain us daily so that our lives become bold, holy, and mission-focused. We step into a life of dependence rather than self-reliance, and we practice sharing our faith with humble confidence, knowing God calls the called and empowers the willing. As a community, we will wait, surrender, and move forward together, trusting that the Holy Spirit equips us to speak, serve, and endure for the sake of God’s kingdom.
How many like it when god tells you to wait? Right? Like, no. Right? It's like Christmas time at kids. Right? You tell your kids, wait. You can't open your president until the twenty fifth or the twenty fourth. Right? And they're they can't wait. They can't wait. And yet Jesus is telling the disciples, wait. Here's why. Salvation will give you new life, but the holy spirit gives power for mission.

Are you seeking god's presence, or you're just seeking his power? God, I want your presence in me. I don't care about the power. But a lot of us, I want the power, and I wanna limit your presence. He can't do that. You want all of him? Then give all of you. And when God pours out his spirit, transformation follows.

Fear had silenced Peter, but then Pentecost happened. Acts tells us the sound of heaven filled the room. Fire rested upon them, and they were all filled with the holy spirit. Suddenly, the same disciples who had hid privately now stood publicly. Then we read the following. Acts two fourteen, then Peter stepped forward.

God does not call the qualified. He's not looking for you to pass so many bible classes. He's not looking for you to have so many certificates. He's not saying, oh, I'm a wait till you get this degree, that degree, wait until you pass a communication class, and then I'll call you. God's not calling the qualified. Instead, god empowers the called.
