God calls us to live boldly, empowered by His Spirit of power, love, and self-discipline, rather than shrinking back in fear or uncertainty. When we face challenges or feel inadequate, we can remember that God’s Spirit within us is not timid but strong, loving, and wise. This Spirit equips us to step forward in faith, to share God’s love, and to use our gifts with courage. Even when we feel unsure, we are reminded that God’s presence emboldens us to act with confidence and grace, trusting that He is with us every step of the way. [35:48]
2 Timothy 1:6-7 (ESV)
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
Reflection: Where in your life do you sense fear or hesitation holding you back, and how might you invite God’s Spirit to embolden you to act with love and courage today?
Nothing in all creation can separate us from the love of God, no matter our circumstances, doubts, or failures. God’s love is steadfast and extravagant, reaching us in our highest joys and deepest struggles. Even when we question whether we are truly welcome or loved, God’s Word assures us that His love is unwavering and unconditional. This truth invites us to rest in the security of God’s embrace and to extend that same radical welcome and love to others, knowing that we are all held by the same unbreakable promise. [45:25]
Romans 8:38-39 (ESV)
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Reflection: When have you doubted that God’s love truly includes you, and how can you remind yourself—and someone else—of this unbreakable love today?
Each of us stands on the shoulders of those who have gone before—family, friends, mentors, and saints—who have nurtured our faith and welcomed us into God’s family. Whether our heritage is biological or spiritual, we are part of a great cloud of witnesses who have carried the faith and extended invitations of belonging. We are called not only to honor those who have shaped us but also to become people who invite, welcome, and nurture others, continuing the legacy of faith and love in our community. [37:40]
Hebrews 12:1 (ESV)
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.
Reflection: Who are the people who have shaped your faith journey, and how can you honor their legacy by encouraging or welcoming someone new this week?
The gifts God has given us—whether hospitality, encouragement, music, or service—are meant to be used, practiced, and grown for the good of others and the glory of God. Like muscles, our gifts strengthen with use and can atrophy if neglected. By intentionally practicing love, hospitality, and service, we become more effective in blessing others and more attuned to God’s work in and through us. Even small acts, done faithfully, can fan the flame of God’s gifts and keep our hearts alive with purpose and joy. [48:31]
1 Peter 4:10 (ESV)
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.
Reflection: What is one gift or talent God has given you that you can intentionally practice or share with someone today?
We are not meant to journey alone; God has given us the gift of community to encourage, support, and walk alongside us. When our courage falters or our love grows thin, the presence of others fans the flame of faith and reminds us that we belong. Together, we embody the body of Christ—empowered by the Spirit, rooted in love, and moving forward with wisdom and courage. Looking around, we see that we are surrounded by companions for the journey, and together we can face whatever comes with hope and strength. [54:11]
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (ESV)
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!
Reflection: Who in your community needs encouragement or support today, and how can you reach out to walk alongside them in a tangible way?
Today’s gathering was a celebration of community, heritage, and the Spirit’s empowering presence among us. We welcomed new faces, including baby Bennett, and rejoiced in the bonds that make us not just friends, but family. In a world that often feels divided and uncertain, we are reminded that our deepest longing is for “more”—more connection with God, more authentic relationships, more grace, more justice, and more joy. This longing is not selfish; it is a reflection of the inclusive, abundant love of Jesus, who welcomes all and calls us to do the same.
We lifted up our prayers for those in need—those seeking healing, those facing surgery, those traveling, and those living in places of conflict. We prayed for peace in our world, our country, and our own hearts, trusting that God’s presence is not absent even in the most troubled places. We also gave thanks for the joys that keep showing up in our lives, recognizing that God’s faithfulness is often revealed through the people around us.
Drawing from Paul’s letter to Timothy, we reflected on the importance of knowing both where we are going and who is going with us. Timothy’s story is our story: each of us stands on the shoulders of those who came before, whether family, friends, or spiritual ancestors. None of us arrived here by accident. We are called to carry forward the witness and love that was entrusted to us, even though those who welcomed us were not perfect—God’s faithfulness shines through imperfect people.
We are reminded that the gifts God has given us—power, love, and self-discipline—are not meant to be hidden or hoarded. They are to be rekindled, practiced, and shared boldly. Just as muscles grow with use, so do our spiritual gifts. When we neglect them, they atrophy; when we practice hospitality, love, and welcome, they flourish. The Spirit that empowered Jesus empowers us, not for domination, but for resilience, forgiveness, and wisdom.
We do not walk this road alone. The Spirit, the saints who have gone before, and the community around us all journey together. Our courage may falter, our love may wane, but together we fan the flame of faith. So, the challenge is set before us: Where are we going? Who is going with us? Let us be bold, loving, and sensible, trusting the Spirit within and the community beside us. We are the body of Christ, empowered to walk this road together.
2 Timothy 1:3-7 (ESV) — > I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
Romans 8:38-39 (ESV) — > For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
And I think if God were writing a letter to us today, that is exactly what God would say to us. I did not give you a spirit of being timid. I gave you a spirit of power. I gave you a spirit of self discipline. I gave you a spirit to go out and share. [00:35:41] (22 seconds) #CalledToShareBoldly
But you see all of those people who have welcomed us in, all of those people who invited us here, all of those people, guess what? Not one of them was perfect, but God was still faithful through them. And now, like Timothy, we're entrusted to carry that witness forward. [00:41:03] (24 seconds) #RealWelcomeRealLove
You see, God doesn't want us to be shy with God's love. God doesn't want us to be shy with sharing God's gifts. God wants us to be bold. God wants us to be loving. And God also wants us to be sensible. [00:46:07] (21 seconds) #AvoidingBitternessThroughLove
Which is why I think that Paul says, rekindle, rekindle. Fan the flame. You have to do the things that are going to fan the flame, that are going to keep it going. But the good news is the same spirit that rested upon Jesus rests upon us. The Spirit that hovered over the waters at creation. They live inside us. The Spirit that gives us power, the Spirit that tells us to go. It doesn't give us dominion, it gives us resilience. The Spirit gives us love. Not shallow affection, but the kind of love that forgives, the kind of love that keeps reaching out. The Spirit gives us a sound mind, a wisdom that steadies us when the world is spinning out of control. [00:49:54] (69 seconds) #BoldnessInHeritageAndSpirit
But together we can remind one another of where we are going. We can remind each other of who is walking with us. [00:52:29] (15 seconds) #EmboldenedToLoveAndGo
Paul's word to Timothy is God's word to us. Don't be shy with your gifts. Don't be shy with the gifts that God has given you. God has given you gifts. Go and be bold. Go and be loving. Go and be sensible. Look to your heritage. Look to those who planted the seeds of faith in you. Trust the spirit, trust the power. Trust the love. Trust the wisdom that is alive within you. Lean into this community here because we walk this road together. [00:53:08] (49 seconds)
``You are not alone. You have we. Look around. Look at the person next to you. Look around, y'. All. You have everyone in this room with you. You are not alone. We are not powerless. And we are not to be timid. We are the body of Christ. We are the body of Christ. Empowered by our heritage, empowered by the spirit. Walking this road together with courage, with love and with wisdom. May it be so, y'. All. May it be so. [00:53:57] (52 seconds)
As you go forth today, May you be bold. May you not be timid. May you be emboldened by the love of God that is in you. May you be emboldened by the love of God that surrounds you. May you be emboldened to spread it to all the earth. Amen. [01:15:51] (27 seconds)
