On the day of Pentecost, God poured out His Spirit on the gathered believers, marking a new beginning and fulfilling His promise to empower His people. The coming of the Holy Spirit was not just a display of supernatural gifts, but a divine act to equip every follower of Jesus to boldly witness and declare the mighty works of God. This outpouring was intentional, aligning with the festival of firstfruits, showing that the Spirit is the first and best gift of the new covenant, given so that we might bring in a harvest for God's kingdom. As you reflect on Pentecost, remember that the Spirit’s presence in your life is both a gift and a calling to live on mission, testifying to what God has done in you and through you. [03:13]
Acts 2:1-4 (ESV)
When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Reflection: In what area of your life do you sense the Holy Spirit prompting you to step out and be a witness for Jesus today? How can you respond in faith?
God’s plans often unfold in ways and at times we do not expect, and Jesus reminds us that it is not for us to know the exact times or seasons the Father has set. Instead, we are called to trust Him, wait on His Spirit, and focus on the mission He has given us. The power to be His witnesses comes not from our own strength or understanding, but from the Holy Spirit. When we let go of our need to control the timing and details, we make room for God to work through us in ways that are far greater than we could imagine. [15:52]
Acts 1:7-8 (ESV)
He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Reflection: Where are you struggling to trust God’s timing in your life? What would it look like to surrender that area to Him and focus on the mission He’s given you today?
The Holy Spirit brings gifts, but the greatest evidence of His presence is a life on mission—boldly declaring the gospel and making disciples. It’s easy to become distracted by the desire for spiritual gifts or experiences, but the Spirit’s main purpose is to empower us to share Jesus with others. The gifts are tools for the mission, not the mission itself. As you walk with the Spirit, let your heart be stirred not just for personal blessing, but for the expansion of God’s kingdom through your witness and obedience. [25:49]
Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV)
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Reflection: Who is one person God is putting on your heart to share the love and message of Jesus with this week? What step can you take to reach out to them?
The story of Pentecost is a powerful reversal of what happened at Sinai: where the giving of the law resulted in 3,000 deaths, the giving of the Spirit brought 3,000 to life. This is the heart of the new covenant—God’s grace covering what the law exposed, and the Spirit empowering us to live in freedom and purpose. No matter your past failures or fears, God redeems and gives new beginnings, just as He did with Peter. The Spirit’s presence is the guarantee of God’s promise, inviting you to live boldly and freely as His witness. [32:03]
Romans 8:1-2 (ESV)
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.
Reflection: Is there an area of guilt or shame from your past that you need to surrender to God’s grace? How can you embrace the freedom and new beginning the Spirit offers you today?
Fear and anxiety can keep us from stepping into the fullness of God’s calling, but the Spirit we have received is not one of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. When we feel overwhelmed by worry or negative thoughts, God invites us to bring those burdens to Him, to renew our minds with His truth, and to let the Spirit fill us with courage and peace. As you lean into relationship with the Holy Spirit, He will empower you to silence fear, speak life, and walk boldly in your purpose. [47:17]
2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV)
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
Reflection: What fear or anxious thought is holding you back from obeying God’s call? Take a moment to pray, asking the Holy Spirit to fill you with His power and peace, and declare God’s truth over that area today.
Acts chapter 2 describes a moment of profound significance: the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. This event was not random, but intentionally orchestrated by God to coincide with the Jewish festival of firstfruits, a time when people brought the first and best of their harvest to God. Just as the Israelites were commanded not to come before God empty-handed, God Himself brought the firstfruits of the new covenant—the gift of the Holy Spirit—to His people. This was a new beginning, a fulfillment of the old covenant, and the inauguration of a new era where God’s presence would dwell within His people, not just among them.
The pattern of “seven plus one”—the eighth day, symbolizing new beginnings—runs throughout Scripture. Jesus’ resurrection on the “eighth day” marked the start of the new covenant, and Pentecost, fifty days after Passover, was the first harvest of this new era. The Holy Spirit’s coming was not just about supernatural gifts or personal experiences; it was about empowering God’s people to be witnesses, to boldly declare the gospel and bring in a harvest of souls. The story of Peter, who went from denying Jesus to preaching with power and seeing 3,000 people saved, is a testament to the transformative work of the Spirit.
God’s timing often confounds our expectations. The disciples wanted to know when Jesus would restore the kingdom to Israel, but Jesus redirected them: it’s not for you to know the times, but you will receive power to be my witnesses. The Spirit’s power is not for personal gain or spiritual pride, but for mission. The gifts of the Spirit are real and valuable, but they are always meant to flow outward, to serve others and advance the kingdom.
Fear, anxiety, and the battle of the mind can keep us from stepping into this calling. Yet, the Spirit is given not to make us timid, but to fill us with power, love, and a sound mind. The invitation is to lean into relationship with the Holy Spirit, to let Him renew our minds, silence negativity, and embolden us to live on mission. The Spirit is the supply for all ministry, the guarantee of God’s promise, and the source of our boldness and freedom.
Remembering what God has done is really important. And today, I want to talk about the intentionality that Jesus and the Father show on the day of Pentecost. What he shows. [00:04:38] (17 seconds)
I think it is a clear message to each one of us that god's timing is not our issue we want it to be our issue we want to grab hold of god's timing when are you going to show up and restore the kingdom when are you going to see the fulfillment of the promise and jesus just says it's not for you to know. [00:17:16] (23 seconds)
He says don't worry about the timing just keep being on mission and you can't accomplish the mission without the power of the Spirit you can't even be a witness to proclaim the gospel without the power of the Spirit wow. [00:19:00] (22 seconds)
You need power to be a witness what does a witness do tells what he saw you saw this I'm gonna declare it God has done this in my life that's exactly what happens when Jesus shows up and delivers us in our lives his spirit comes on us and we are empowered to take what has happened in our lives and declare it to others this is the goodness of God he showed up in my sin and in my bondage and he delivered me and now he's put me on mission to tell you he can deliver you too. [00:20:15] (48 seconds)
When jesus died on the cross what happened it says he breathed his last breath and what the veil tore so the most holy of holies went from being completely blocked off to us to then being open and exposed because of what jesus did on the cross we have the manifest presence of god walking with us every single day because jesus died on the cross and split the veil that's incredible. [00:22:59] (30 seconds)
The greatest evidence that we have received the power of the Holy Spirit is that we are being a witness. Acts 1 .8. He didn't say you'll receive power to speak in tongues. Did that happen? Yes. He didn't say you'll receive power to have gifts of healing. Did that happen? Yes. He said you will receive power to be my witness. So the fruit, the greatest fruit of the Holy Spirit coming on your life and the power of the Spirit is that we boldly declare the gospel. [00:24:41] (40 seconds)
But it would be just like the enemy to get us to focus more on what the gift of the Spirit could do for us than through us. The point is to be on mission. You have a purpose. Matthew 28, 18. Go into all the world. Make disciples of all the nations. How are you going to do that? The power of the Spirit. [00:26:32] (33 seconds)
You want to talk about the eight, the new beginning. You want to talk the seven plus one. What God loves to do with new beginnings. Let me tell you what God loves to do with new beginnings. He loves to take a man who went from denying him three times to enabling him to be a preacher where 3 ,000 people come to know Christ. That's the power of the Spirit. [00:28:43] (26 seconds)
I didn't give my spirit so that you could be afraid in fact I didn't give you again the spirit of fear but I gave you the spirit by which you can call me Abba Father Romans chapter 8 we are disciples go into all the world and make disciples what are we waiting on are we afraid of the steps of faith that God has called us to take jump what are we waiting on are we wondering how it's going to work out and the answer of course is yes but don't look at what you're waiting for just like Jesus said to those who are wanting to know is it at this time that we'll see the kingdom brought back to those are you going to restore it and he says don't worry about that go on mission. [00:38:58] (73 seconds)
