The Holy Spirit gives us the power to be bold witnesses for Jesus, not just within the church but in every area of our lives. This power is not something we can muster up on our own; it is a supernatural enablement that allows us to share what God has done, to testify to His miracles, and to live out our faith in a way that draws others to Christ. If you find yourself struggling to share your faith or feeling timid about speaking up for Jesus, remember that you were not saved just for your own benefit, but to be a living witness of His love and transformation. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh and give you the courage and strength to be His witness wherever you go. [01:06:18]
Acts 1:8 (ESV)
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
Reflection: Who is one person you can share your testimony or the love of Jesus with this week, trusting the Holy Spirit to give you the words and boldness?
The Holy Spirit is our personal teacher, guiding us into all truth and reminding us of everything Jesus has said. He knows exactly how each of us learns best and meets us right where we are, teaching us in ways we can understand. Just as He led the Israelites with a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night, He leads us step by step, showing us which way to go and what to say. When we are unsure, confused, or tempted to speak out of turn, the Holy Spirit is our filter and our guide, helping us to respond with wisdom and grace. Invite Him to teach you today, to guide your words and actions, and to help you grow in the character of Christ. [01:11:53]
John 14:26 (ESV)
"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you."
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you need the Holy Spirit’s guidance or teaching today? Ask Him specifically for help in that area.
Unity in the body of Christ is a work of the Holy Spirit, who brings together people from every background and makes us one family. When the early believers gathered in the upper room, they were in perfect unity—one heart, one mind, one purpose—and the Spirit moved powerfully among them. True unity is not about uniformity, but about being joined together by the Spirit for God’s purposes. When we allow the Holy Spirit to work in us, He removes division, jealousy, and strife, and creates a community where God’s presence is manifest and lives are changed. Let’s hunger for that unity, seeking the Spirit’s help to love, forgive, and serve one another as one body. [01:15:52]
1 Corinthians 12:13 (ESV)
"For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit."
Reflection: Is there someone in your church family you need to reconcile with or encourage today to help build unity? What step can you take?
The Holy Spirit is God’s seal upon our lives, marking us as His own and guaranteeing our inheritance in Christ. Just as a seal on a door keeps out unwanted intruders, the Spirit seals up the cracks and crevices in our lives where the enemy might try to enter. He is our protection, our assurance, and our deposit guaranteeing that we belong to God. When you feel vulnerable or attacked, remember that the Holy Spirit stands guard over your life, declaring that you are already claimed and paid for by Jesus. Trust in His protection and let Him fill every area of your life, closing the gaps where fear or doubt might creep in. [01:21:03]
Ephesians 1:13-14 (ESV)
"In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory."
Reflection: Are there any “cracks” in your life—areas of vulnerability or temptation—where you need the Holy Spirit’s sealing and protection? Invite Him to cover those places today.
When we are weak, overwhelmed, or don’t know how to pray, the Holy Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. He knows our hearts, understands our struggles, and prays according to God’s perfect will. Even when we feel like our prayers are bouncing off the ceiling, the Spirit is at work, bringing our needs before the Father and fighting on our behalf. In moments of anxiety, confusion, or pain, you can rest in the assurance that you are not alone—the Holy Spirit is praying for you, and God is working for your good. Surrender your burdens to Him and trust that He is moving, even when you cannot see it. [01:25:07]
Romans 8:26-27 (ESV)
"Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God."
Reflection: What is one situation in your life right now where you feel too weak or uncertain to pray? Take a moment to be still and ask the Holy Spirit to pray for you and through you.
Today is a celebration of Pentecost, a day that marks the birth of the Church and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. We began by honoring our graduates and new members, recognizing that God has ordered their steps and is preparing them for the next season of their lives. We also looked forward to our upcoming outreach, where we’ll serve our community and show the love of Christ in practical ways. But at the heart of today is the reminder that there is more—more vision, more purpose, and especially, more power available to us through the Holy Spirit.
Pentecost is not just a historical event; it’s an invitation to experience the same power that filled the upper room. We traced the roots of Pentecost back to Mount Sinai, where Moses encountered God’s glory, and then to the upper room, where the disciples received the Holy Spirit. The difference between these two moments is profound: the first Pentecost brought the law, but the second brought perfect grace and divine power. This power is not reserved for a select few; it’s for all who are hungry and unified in their desire for God.
The Holy Spirit is not an abstract force or an “it”—He is the third person of the Trinity, present from the very beginning, working in perfect unity with the Father and the Son. He empowers us in five key ways: He makes us witnesses, teaches us all things, brings unity to the body, seals us as God’s own, and prays for us in our weakness. Each of these roles is deeply personal and transformative. The Spirit gives us boldness to share our faith, wisdom to navigate life, unity that transcends differences, security against the enemy’s attacks, and intercession when we don’t know how to pray.
We are called not just to receive the Spirit, but to desire more of Him—to be hungry for His presence and power. Whether you are struggling to witness, seeking guidance, longing for unity, needing protection, or desperate for prayer, the Holy Spirit is available to meet you right where you are. Today, the invitation is open: come and receive more of Him, let Him fill every part of your life, and watch as He brings transformation, victory, and the miraculous.
Acts 2:1-4 — When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
- Ephesians 1:13-14
And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.
- Romans 8:26-27
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
We have a big vision, but we have a big God. And so what better day than Pentecost Sunday to talk about more power? That's what I'm going to talk about. More power. That's what the Holy Spirit brings in our life. Amen. It's more power.
On the first Pentecost, the nation of Israel was born. On the first Pentecost, when Moses went up, he received the law. That's what the word says. The nation of Israel was born. On the second Pentecost that we read about here in the New Testament, as we know it, the church was born. The church was born. Today we're not celebrating a denominational thing like I just talked about. Pentecost is we're not celebrating a denominational thing. We are celebrating the birth of the church. [00:55:59]
The difference was that one was given under the law. One was given the law meaning you break it, you die. But the other was given under divine and perfect grace and divine power. Perfect grace and divine power. You need to thank God that there was a second upper room. You need to thank God that there was an upper room experience. And that the church was birthed in that upper room. [00:56:46]
He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Most people are confused who the Holy Spirit is. Most people, the majority of the people are confused at even who he is. When I say he, most people have a tendency to refer to it. He's not an it. He's a he. He's a person. He's a person. [00:58:41]
God the Father wills everything for your life. Jesus speaks it into existence and the Holy Spirit said, I'll take care of that. That's exactly how it works. And I love that they're all working in perfect unity, perfect harmony. There's never a dissension going, hey, you're getting more credit than I get. There's never anybody arguing with the other one saying, hey, I don't like the way you did that. I don't think that was the right way to go. No, no, no. They're all working in perfect unity, perfect divine unity for us. [01:03:05]
Acts 1 and 8 says this, but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes what? On you. When the Holy Spirit comes on you, you and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in Judea, in Samaria and to the ends of the earth. [01:05:03]
The only way you're going to become a witness for him is by receiving the power of the Holy Spirit. You can't do it within you. The only way to be able to become a witness. So if you're struggling this morning in your witness, if you're struggling sharing who God is in your life, who he is, what he's done for you and how he's turned your life around and how he's changed you. If you're struggling with your witness this morning, maybe you need more power. [01:05:50]
You've not been saved just for fire insurance, to keep you out of hell. That's what that reference is, if y 'all were wondering. I've always looked at me like, what does she mean, fire insurance? I mean, that'll keep you out of hell. You're not saved just to stay out of hell. You've been saved. You've been called to be a witness. [01:07:00]
We need to be a witness. We've been saved to be a witness for Jesus Christ. A witness to what he's done in our lives. A witness to how he's changed me. A witness to the miracles that he's done in my life. A witness to the miracles that I see every day. A witness to who he is and what he does. He gives us the power to be a witness, to do that. [01:07:31]
But the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things. He's going to teach you all things and he'll bring to your remembrance, look at this, all that I have said to you. [01:08:03]
But the Holy Spirit knows exactly how to teach you. How to teach you, how to teach me. He knows that we learn differently. He knows how to teach us, though, in the way that we can connect and understand. Like, I may not be able to connect and understand to what you can, but I can connect in my way. And I love that about the personalization of the Holy Spirit, that he teaches me on a level that I can understand and that I can learn. [01:09:14]
Here's one thing I understood and I learned about the Holy Spirit. He's my great defender. He's my great defender. And do you know that I don't have to say a word? I don't have to say a thing because He'll defend me. If there's defending needing to be done, He'll do it for me. If I will learn to let Him teach me not to speak at all times, not to say anything all the time, not to open my mouth, but to keep my mouth shut, He will defend me the way I need to be defended. And He can do a much better job than I can do for myself. [01:13:05]
The Holy Spirit will bring unity to the church. He will bring unity. Listen, not just Salt Life Church. He will bring unity to the church. If we have the Spirit of God working in us, the church as a whole will be unified. Listen, they weren't gathered together that day in the upper room. Ununified. They were completely unified. That's why the Spirit came. They were completely in one mind and one accord. They were in one heart. They knew what they were coming in for. [01:14:07]
They came into the room that day separate individuals, but they left completely unified. Did you hear me? They came in separate individuals, but they left completely unified. There was not a dissension between them. And that's why when they walked out that day and they were speaking in another language, the people on the street were saying, we hear our own dialect being spoken. And their hearts were turned to Jesus. And 3 ,000 people were added to the church in one day. One day. [01:16:43]
Ephesians 1, 13 through 14 says this. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal. You were marked with a seal. The promised Holy Spirit, he's your seal. Who is a deposit, look at that, that's that word again, guaranteeing your inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession to the praise of his glory. [01:18:33]
Can I tell you, the Holy Spirit is in the same way, a seal for you. He is a seal for you. He is actually, he's supposed to shut up all the cracks and crevices in your life where the enemy's allowed to come in and wreak havoc in your life. He'll put a seal on that place. He'll put a seal on it. He'll seal up so the enemy can't come and get in where he's not supposed to. I love that. He's a seal for the doorways. On the doorframe of your life, the Holy Spirit is a seal for you. [01:20:43]
When the enemy comes in and tries to steal your stuff and tries to take your stuff, the Holy Spirit stands up and says, no, no, no, a deposit has already been made on this. They've been bought already. They've been paid for. They've been purchased. A deposit has already been made on your life when you receive the power of the Holy Spirit. A deposit gets put in, and the devil can't come in and say, nope, I want that. I want that. I want that. No, no, no. No, because the Holy Spirit stands up and says, back up, buddy. A deposit's already been put down on this one. [01:23:24]
Also, the Spirit helps us. We are very weak, but the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We don't know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit himself speaks to God for us. I don't know about you, but you should shout right there. Because when you don't know how to pray and you don't have the words to tell anybody or anything, the Holy Spirit begins to pray for you. Oh, that encourages me. That encourages me. He begs God for us. Speaking to him with feelings too deep for words. [01:24:30]
If the Holy Spirit is praying for you. You can bank on the fact that God will work on your behalf. God will fight for you. God will work for you. [01:30:19]
