The anointing is God’s supernatural empowering that enables ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things beyond their natural abilities. Whether it’s leading a family, stepping into a new role, or facing a challenge that feels far beyond your comfort zone, the anointing bridges the gap between your calling and your capacity. It is not about your own sufficiency or performance, but about God’s Spirit equipping you for the specific purpose He has for you. When you feel inadequate or unprepared, remember that God’s anointing is available to empower you for every good work He calls you to. [03:37]
Isaiah 10:27 (ESV)
“And in that day his burden will depart from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck; and the yoke will be broken because of the anointing.”
Reflection: What is one area in your life right now where you feel overwhelmed or underqualified, and how can you invite the Holy Spirit’s anointing to empower you in that specific situation today?
Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of the anointed prophet, priest, and king, and He was empowered by the Holy Spirit to bring good news, freedom, and healing. As followers of Jesus, we are included in His mission and receive His anointing to proclaim hope, set captives free, and bring light to those in darkness. The same Spirit that anointed Jesus now abides in us, equipping us to participate in God’s redemptive work in our world. Our calling is not just for personal benefit, but to join in the mission of Christ to transform lives and communities. [11:18]
Luke 4:18-19 (ESV)
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Reflection: Who in your life or community is in need of hope or freedom, and how can you step out this week to share the love and message of Jesus with them?
The distinguishing mark of a life empowered by the anointing is closeness to Jesus. The more time you spend with Him—in His Word, in prayer, and among His people—the more His presence and power are evident in your life. It is not about your education, background, or natural talent, but about being recognized as someone who has been with Jesus. The anointing is not a one-time event but a daily, moment-by-moment reliance on Christ, allowing His Spirit to work through you in every circumstance. [21:31]
Acts 4:13 (ESV)
“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.”
Reflection: What practical step can you take today to draw closer to Jesus—whether through prayer, Scripture, or fellowship—so that His presence becomes more evident in your life?
Embracing your weakness is not a disqualification but an invitation for God’s power to rest upon you. The anointing is not about having it all together, but about relying on God’s sufficiency rather than your own. When you feel limited, inadequate, or burdened by your shortcomings, remember that God’s grace is sufficient and His power is made perfect in your weakness. Rather than hiding or resenting your limitations, bring them to God and allow Him to use them as a platform for His strength and glory. [25:56]
2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV)
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
Reflection: What is one weakness or limitation you tend to hide or feel ashamed of, and how can you offer it to God today as a place for His power to be displayed?
The anointing increases as you step out in obedience to what God is calling you to do, even when it feels risky or uncertain. God’s sufficiency flows most freely when your life is directed toward serving others and advancing His kingdom. Rather than waiting for perfect conditions or absolute certainty, take the next step of faith, trusting that God will empower and sustain you. The journey of walking in the anointing is marked by daily choices to trust, obey, and serve, knowing that God’s grace will meet you in every step. [24:03]
2 Corinthians 3:4-6 (ESV)
“Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”
Reflection: What is one step of faith or obedience you sense God prompting you to take, and how can you act on it this week, trusting in His sufficiency rather than your own?
Today’s focus is on understanding the anointing of the Holy Spirit—what it is, how it differs from simply being filled with the Spirit, and how it empowers ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things for God’s purposes. Many of us have faced moments where the gap between our calling and our capacity feels overwhelming, whether it’s stepping into leadership, parenting, or simply following God’s prompting in our daily lives. The anointing is God’s supernatural empowerment, enabling us to do what we could never do in our own strength.
Throughout Scripture, the anointing is seen as a specific empowering for a particular task: Aaron was anointed as priest, craftsmen were anointed to build the tabernacle, and David was anointed as king long before he actually took the throne. Even Jesus, the ultimate Anointed One, was empowered by the Spirit to fulfill His mission. This same anointing is available to us, not just for ministry, but for every area of life—work, family, relationships, and beyond.
The anointing is not about our performance or abilities, but about God’s presence and purpose working through us. It is closely tied to grace; sometimes we experience a season of great ease and flow, and at other times, the grace seems to lift, calling us to seek God for fresh direction or perseverance. The distinguishing mark of a life empowered by the Spirit is not talent or education, but having been with Jesus. The world is changed by ordinary people who walk closely with Him.
To grow in the anointing, three things are essential: staying close to Jesus, stepping out in obedience, and embracing our weaknesses. The anointing is not a one-time event but a daily reliance on God’s empowering presence. When we feel inadequate, it is often the very place where God’s power is made perfect. The anointing breaks the yoke of sin and self-effort, freeing us to take on the easy yoke of Christ and walk in His purposes. Each of us is invited to ask: where do I need God’s empowering today, and what step of faith is He calling me to take?
Luke 4:18-19 — “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
([11:18])
2. 1 John 2:20, 27
“But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge... But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.”
([13:13])
3. Acts 4:13
“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.”
([17:41])
The anointing is really that it's it's what God does to give us faith and empowerment to be able to accomplish that which he's leading us into And uh this morning I'm hoping that I'll be able to experience and maybe express how the supernatural empowering of the Holy Spirit actually empowers us to do extraordinary things with our very ordinary lives. [00:03:30]
There is a difference when we are filled with the Holy Spirit When you and I have never experienced faith in Jesus and you put your faith in Jesus what happens is you receive the Holy Spirit No one can say Jesus Christ is Lord but by the Holy Spirit. [00:04:07]
But when I speak about the anointing the anointing is a special ability and empowering to fulfill a specific task There is an anointing for healing There is an anointing for you and I to be parents to be business owners to be colleagues to be workers to be husbands. [00:04:52]
The Holy Spirit comes in and enables us for things to work the way they are supposed to work And if I can do a bit of dancing here you can see I'm a nice the flashing lights over here Guys if you can help me for a moment what happens to us is we need a special empowering of the Holy Spirit for things to work properly in our lives That's what the anointing does and is for us. [00:06:35]
Often God anoints you for a particular task calls you and then the anointing is at work developing and preparing you for one day when you just simply walk in and you step in to what God has for us I don't know what your season of life you've been in right now. [00:09:42]
But friends you and I need to realize I want to really this is the only thing you walk away today with Then then this is so important that you and I need to understand God anoints the priest He He anoints the kings but he also anointed Jesus Jesus is the anointed one. [00:10:16]
So when you and I think of the anointing as much as God's anointing is there to help you in your business and in your workplace and as a student and all the aspects that you're involved in in your life the purpose and the calling that God has for you ultimately also is connected to and tied in to the mission of what Jesus is You and I are called as our vision statements is says to see cities transformed the nation's disciples so that people who are far from God they become the light of Christ That's we want to see the the captives set free That same anointing is for you and me today. [00:12:21]
We have Jesus living inside of us And so when you and I might be faced with some situations and you're like "Lord I don't know if I'm able to do this I don't know if I can stake this step of faith because it takes faith friends to follow Jesus It takes faith to accomplish God's purposes in our lives We have to say well with confidence not in ourselves but because of the one who lives inside of us he empowers us to express that." [00:13:28]
But then there came a time when the only way I can describe it is that the grace lifted It was as if it became harder Now I I need to just quickly just say that just because you sometimes go through hard times doesn't mean that God says you mustn't be involved in those things Sometimes that's what we believe Oh it must only go No no we don't want everything to. [00:15:01]
God wants to use ordinary people to do extraordinary things But it's we are marked not by our abilities our talents our education our experiences but we are marked by the call of God and the fact that we are called and have been walking with Jesus That was that's what happened with the the early church the disciples. [00:16:08]
You want to increase in the anointing of of God in your life be with Jesus When people look at you they shouldn't say "Oh well look at how good you are." I I have seen Christians operate at a level whether it's in business or in their workplaces or in society If you had to think back how many scientific breakthroughs have happened through Christians. [00:17:28]
The closer you and I stay with Jesus the more we find ourselves in his scriptures the more we surround ourselves with his people the more effective we become in expressing God's purposes for our lives Jesus the anointing rubs off You know if you've if you've experienced oil before it's kind of like it always leaves a residue That's what I would love to see happening in our church. [00:21:49]
At every single moment of the day friends you and I have to take a step What is God calling you to do Understand that his grace is sufficient for what you need as you do that 2 Corinthians 3:4-6 says "Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God that now that we are sufficient and not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us but our sufficiency is from God." [00:23:44]
For every leader every person that I've observed in my life that has done amazing things with their lives they have often an equally obvious weakness that they have had to learn to embrace and live with and also often put things into their lives that helps them to make that weakness not be the thing that disqualifies them but actually empowers them to be more effective in the area that they have. [00:25:01]
It's just like I just can't shake this feeling that I need to take a step of faith I can't shake this shake this reality that God is leading me into more things God's got a a a God-sized dream and purpose for you in my life That doesn't mean that we become Elon Musk the richest person on planet Earth It may just mean that you are the best parent that your children need for the destiny that God is preparing them for. [00:27:29]
If we want to plow straight if we want to see fruitfulness and a harvest follow our lives we've got to yoke ourselves to Jesus That's the picture So God wants to increase his anointing that you may be break free from the yoke of sin and death But he wants you to put on his yoke of the anointing that says "I want to be empowered to see this life that God has promised over you on my life to see the transformation that happens."
